This is a great song. Starts out in Country segues into Gospel and finishes in Jazz. A true masterstroke of a musical genius. I'd wish he plays it more.
Yep. For those that haven't heard it & think Sting's just havin' a country moment, stay with it all the way. It transitions into a brilliant tune. THIS would be a reunion (Police) I could live with.
and not something like pop and rock or funk and jazz... but country and gospel! are there 2 music styles that are more different from eachother? sting is a god!
Yes, the gospel part is in 7/8. And I really can't understand why, other than "for the sake of it." IMO, the song would've been much more effective if he had just stayed in 4/4 as the section called for (IMO).
Wow! Will never get tired of STING! He's DA MAN!

What a tune Who else can combine 2 musical influences and combine them into one from country into gospel absolute genius
I love this song I used to play this song in my Dream for lots of my OTF COACHES LOTS OF THEM USED DIESEL GAS

Such clever turns of a phrase in this very atmospheric song. One of his altimeter best....to me.....
song when i drive for the roads going to north, good sting songs,so many good.
This is one of the best Sting songs...and that is saying a lot!!! Thanks for this jetcityjimi! :)
So awesome !
Haha, the country sound
great song to listen to as you're crusin' down the road!
I too am a musician and totally agree with jetcityjimi stay out of the way and let the tune breath....great job by the band!!!
True..💖✨☔
Never realised that Sting sings “yeah” after every line during his live performances.
Such a fun lyric and mix of styles :D
Not one of my favs but I do like the transition. The story and the tempo change perfectly.
keny kyrland for ever te extrañamos
god, that's great live!!
A same kind of country mixture song as "Love is stronger than justice".
...and it's gospel in 7/8. Talk about fusion!
Mikael Flarup Bagger This song is nuts.
So damn outstanding.
Varied stylistically, completely satisfying.
and not something like pop and rock or funk and jazz... but country and gospel! are there 2 music styles that are more different from eachother? sting is a god!
I see your taste is as eclectic as mine (I just came from my Black Sabbath "Never Say Die" vid.
o, now I see, it's in LA... but he sertainly had the same performance in Moscow couple of years later... I have the VHS somewhere...
It's Texas swing with a dramatic finish played and composed by a Brit. What do you expect? It's sting, not Hank Snow. lol... I like the 7/8 part.
Others may have done this before (Paul Simon comes to mind), but Sting drops the damn mic.
LOve this..very fun
is it a performance in Moscow in early 2000s? I think I saw it on TV some 9 or 8 years ago)
I know kipper is playin keys here, but is sancious there too , i think i see him playin off to the right
vinnie c absolutely rips in the break..as does Manu
I hate critics unless they can do it better or at least play an instrument, which I think no critics here can...
@everyruddyword I question your musicianship as the gospel part is in 7 not 12.
its a little slower than the record version.. aint it?
paul bettany looks like sting
Hey come on guys, as far as I comprehend the lyrics somebody changes his mind midway through the song/story... so why not change the tempo!?
Diesel gas is expensive
oh ok , thanks =]

I respectfully disagree. He's a pro. Sometimes you're job is to just let the song stand and not get in the way. He shows his talent plenty elsewhere.
3.06 sec into song..like I said.good step.correct move?..or was that ..one of you folks move..oh..chess game not playing.
It's not 12/8, but 7/8
@everyruddyword
12/8 ?
what u talkin bout dude Dom is a great player. otherwise sing would use him from the begining. you need to dig a litter deeper.
its ok but its not really Sting, u no?
Manu's version does no justice to Vinnie's. Don't get me wrong, he's still a great drummer.
@everyruddyword How Ironic.
wtf..concidered how utterly fantastic the police are this is just rubbish
oh god..compared to the police this is just crap.
I love you Sting, but this song just don't make it!
