Both were very good; however, I didn’t add brown sugar to the meat sauce version. I did add 2tsp brown sugar to the vegan sauce. My daughter, the vegetarian liked it, but the other 2 family members thought that one was a tad too sweet (after cooking for approx 2.5 hrs). I will def make this again, but I will only add 1 tsp brown sugar. That should make it perfect for our taste.

I've heard those soy curls are less processed than tvp. I have a few bags of tvp in my freezer. Definitely going to make these. After I'm out I'm going to order those soy curls and see if I can use those to make it!

Textured vegetable protein. It comes as dried bits that you can usually find in the natural/vegan section. I tend to get mine from a bulk store or Amazon. You can do a lot with it as it takes up the flavour of whatever you marinate it in!
Also a wonderful source of plant based protein! You just have to pour hot water and flavourings (ex. Soy sauce, liquid smoke, garlic powder, veg broth) to get it to expand. It improves the texture if you squeeze out the excess liquid once it’s ready (not crunchy).
