Back in the early 80's I had a metallic Green Viva Magnum 1.8 and the only problem was every time you opened the door you got a shock so I used a short length of copper wire and hung it off the tow bar dragging on the road and that cured it. back in the day you needed suppressors to stop your radio from clicking when you revved the engine. I love the tech on todays motors but I miss having to listen for every sound that kept you on your toes. That is why I like watching your channel reminds me of the old school way of doing the mechanics mixed with the new. Cheers for that.
Just found this channel by accident. As a lifelong Vauxhall owner I'm loving it. Probably my favourite car owned was a 1990 Astra Belmont SXI, loved that car. Looking forward to going through the videos and new content!!
Super Rare Diplomat Pre-Facelift Cavalier! Used to visit the local Vauxhall Dealership in Abingdon Oxfordshire every day at lunchtimes when I worked nearby., 3 of my mates were Service Technicians there. Never saw a pre-facelift version only a few facelift versions back in the day 1991 to 1994. Keep up the good work Dougie, good karma, I'm glad you found it and got it back on the road. Look forward to all your videos, Mate. All the Best, Nick.
Nice car that, had a diamond black 92 pre facelift diplomat hatch years back when I was about 20, manual like yours, rare then, like hens teeth now, needs painting properly 💪
Love this, has all the buttons and options that my Dads early Mk3 2.0 GLi saloon just had blanks for.. mind you, even the CD and GSi mostly had the same blanks, as aircon and heated seats were next level luxury!
The heated seats on the early ones had the buttons where the air con ones are, beside the heated rear window. Only saw it in brochures never actually seen an early one with them, it was an option on the GSi and maybe CD. Scandinavian cars would be more likely to have them
Great succes Dougie! MOTed cav diplomat back on the road! All your Cav content is really making me miss my old Vectra A GLS 1.8 saloon. I keep checking all the car websites now for a hatch😅 And Daredevil Bob!👌
Nice work Dougie! Well done getting the MOT, that welding definitely done the job I couldn’t do any better. Really quick turnaround as well well done mate.
Great watching this video, I used to own an early E reg 1.8 Lxi cavalier followed by a L reg 2.0 Sri cavalier , so I found this a very interesting project of your car . I always wanted a Diplomat so I am a bit jealous, keep at it Dougie. Great stuff 👏 👍 👌.
Ive got a lot of love for the 80s vauxhalls. Never owned a cav. Had 2 astra gte's mk1 & 2, 2 carltons and 2 senators. To this day the senator cd is the best car i ever owned. Loving the content duggie👍👍
Great work on the Dippy, I enjoyed the drive. I'm sure Provanmill Autos did the timing belt on my old TD at the start of 2020, according to the service history.
A good car getting better and better. Getting me ready to don the welding gear myself in the very near future. Not looking forward to that. 10/10 for Bob gymnastics too.
Another greet video on the diplomat! Loving the regular content dougie! Looking forward to the next one. Also I’m sure you mentioned merchandise? Wouldn’t mind rocking a ODFS T-shirt!
Good one with the mot pass. My Cavalier Sri redtop is up for its mot next Wednesday. It never passes the emissions first time and I'm all ways told to tighten the hand brake for next time.
I've always had a soft spot for the MK3 Pre-facelift cavalier, it was what I was ferried around as a child. a 1.6 LS in Vauxhall red. J885DRC. It's even in my Baby book! Years later i ended up owning a M reg Cav for 60 quid and a pint! Was actually a really good car, but ended up flipping it as I had a MK2 golf GTI at the time and couldn't keep 2 cars.
Damn you’d have been just the man to save my Mondeo zetec-s v6 there was only 4 left on the road but one less now had similar rot on both sides but on the towers going up from the bottom. Funnily enough it was a saloon too so maybe common on loons
Both my cars and both my missus cars all have LED bulbs fitted for low beam and main beam. The difference between them and normal halogen bulbs is fantastic.
We will soon see u going Sutton racking some miles up and not took u too long to get it running properly and motd I was surprised how clean it ran even was the mot tester lol
My grandad had a cavalier when I was a young lad, what an awesome car it was! I think it had about 90k on it when he got rid of it about 1999 ish (going back a fair way) I randomly spotted it in a mcdonalds drive through in Hull around 2007 so I really do wonder how many miles it had then, the reg was a distinctive one N71ARH, seems to be gone from the dvla database so I assume scrapped, shame as it was an expression model with the distinctive nice alloys on, my grandad was always a vauxhall man so as far as I can remember they had a mk2 astra, nova, cav, astra Sri, vectra b petrol, vectra b diesel, another astra, and a 2019 shape corsa, saw your other video when you called into halfords northallerton in a pinch and just wanted to say you are welcome to use my driveway and tools etc should you ever need on your journeys down to brands hatch etc, I live just north of Middlesbrough, drop me a message should you ever wish to take up the offer, cheers!
If you don't have spare speakers you can get new rubber replacements for the foam, stuck down with T-7000 glue. They are really cheap on ebay, they are a but of a faff to fit but I used them for the speakers in my 98 A6 and I'm really pleased with the results.
Hey Dougie, if you are interested The you tube channel Big Car has a informative video thi week on the Vauxhall/ Opel omega, well worth a watch. No doubt you probably already know a lot about them.
Rare indeed, not sure I remember ever seeing a Cavalier Diplomat. My dads mate bought a newish Carlton Diplomat back in the day which was very plush even if it did grenade it’s diff on the M9 with only about 15k on the clock!
Can I ask how did it pass on headlights new law says u can’t have led headlights if not a factory fit on car as beam pattern not same I got told to take my hir2 led headlight bulbs out on mot o they woukd fail it
@@malcolmcowan9554 not what I got told if your car not factory fitted now with led your car got to have halogen lights not led read the new laws on mot aswell
That Diplomat looks so good it deserves a respray.
Agree
+1
Absolutely its definitely deserving of it 👍👍
It will definitely be getting done 👍
Man that Cavalier is mint underneath! Really impressive. Deserves a fresh paint job and freshening up of the plastics and it'll look like new!
Aftermarket LED headlight are amazing at blinding people.
Done 400 miles in it, lots at night and nobody has flashed me. If they did I'd take them back out
I understood they were a MOT fail if fitted to a vehicle that never left the factory with them.
Just amazing how many people still have the love for these cars. Especially duggy he does an amazing job
I have a CD version here in Brazil, excellent car especially on the roads
moved it on up really fast dougie, great work!

Great work Dougie!

The Belmont SRi/SXi are great cars they handle much better than the hatch.
Really like this series of videos. Makes me really miss my first Car, which was an H reg Cavalier 1.4l.

The car is looking tidy, solid underneath too. Glad to see Bob approves too!
Putting new tyres on a car always feels weirdly satisfying

Absolutely brilliant video Dougie ❤️ 👍 beautiful looking car

Really coming together now. Fortunately you have some decent spares!
You’re a font of knowledge, love watching the updates 👍
If it's the one and only surely you have to Christen it Chesney
Some excellent work done. The interior looks great
It's just "The Diplomat" for now but if I did name it I'd probably call it Fred 😁👍
Nice solution for locking the track rod end 🙂 👍
Great job duggy, fantastic to see these cars pressed back into service. Looking forward to the next video.thanks duggy.
Absolutely loving the Diplomat! (and the Bob content)
Well done Dougie. Good work and another great video. 👍
Great episode 👏 didnt doubt it going through the test with flying colours 😎👍
Is it not illegal to run led bulbs in standard headlights
Great watching this video, I used to own an early E reg 1.8 Lxi cavalier followed by a L reg 2.0 Sri cavalier , so I found this a very interesting project of your car . I always wanted a Diplomat so I am a bit jealous, keep at it Dougie. Great stuff 👏 👍 👌.
Maybe the lass in the grey Clio wants your attention?😁😉
Coming on nicely. Love it.
Great video Dougie you’re going to have a really nice car there when it’s all finished 👍
Fantastic Dougie, it’s turning into a faithful steed. That 8v seems to be getting better the more you drive it.
another great video! thanks really enjoy this era of motors

Just can't wait buzzing great stuff dughe
Brilliant project, great progress, looking really good so far. 👌
Engine sounds so smooth, and those seats are fab great job and very entertaining thanks.
Great work on the Dippy, I enjoyed the drive. I'm sure Provanmill Autos did the timing belt on my old TD at the start of 2020, according to the service history.
That 2.0 8 Valve sounds mint 👍, emission’s test made me laugh 😂
I watch because of the Vauxhall's but I stay because of the cat. The car's going to be great . Good work Dougie.
Looks ace on the new suspension 👌
Great to see it back on the road.
A good car getting better and better. Getting me ready to don the welding gear myself in the very near future. Not looking forward to that. 10/10 for Bob gymnastics too.

Didn't think it would pass with that bulbs?
Excellent Dougie
Am back to watch your amazing content
Excellent video and progress
Nice lamps on the diplomat
wow, I didn't even know they did a cavalier Diplomat. I had a carlton diplomat and that was a fantastic car
The pre-facelift was only made for six months, that and the facelift 8v 4x4s must be the rarest models I think
Looking forward to this Dougie!
Another brilliant video mate, the effort you put into your videos is excellent 👏
Another good video and great progress with the Diplomat, oh you have an arse for a neighbour aswell, I have one just like that
Brilliant Dougie. You need to save for the paint job.
Poor Kenzos hauns are cold, he is standing about with them in his pockets...
Can’t wait Dougie looks a good one 👍
Excellent job, well done!

Good luck! Put super unleaded in it and get it nice and hot (thrash it a bit 😂) right before the MoT if you can
@@OnceDrivenForeverSmittenit passed!

Excellent Dougie 👍
The Mk 2 Cavalier was a Dorset car possibly supplied by Grand parade or H C Underwood good to see you have got an mot already.
Great work.
I have calibra oil volts gauges with the cable would suit that lovely leather interior lol
Keep savin'' em Dougie! Mac.
Looking forward to this, be interested to see what you you think of the toyo's as I'm after some cheap tyres for my project cars.
They were the cheapest brand name tyre I could get but I can't call them cheap, tyres cost a sodding fortune these days 😵💫👍
I had a black diplomat was a rare manual leather heated front seats 20 L 8v lovely car k719 CPP
Glad P'mill autos treated you ok. charged me £20 to put it on the ramp to tell me a wishbone was worn couple years back.
I'm getting some of them bulbs for my cdi, look much better than the candles it's got in it now
Better and better. I think that I fancy a Cavalier.
Both my cars and both my missus cars all have LED bulbs fitted for low beam and main beam. The difference between them and normal halogen bulbs is fantastic.

Just bought 2 gremax tyres 205/50/16 for £85 total brand new for the front for my 1999 astra 2.0 16v sri and they are surprisingly good.

I had one of these the rear quarter had a big dint in it but was fully loaded great car sold it for 300 I think back in the day
