  • Come ride with me as I thread the needle between trees, jumps the whoops, and tear it up in the woods. For anyone that says you cannot ride a hub motor ebike off road, show them this video.
    **********************************
Frame, motor, Sabvoton controller and wheels from Alibaba. Everything else was purchased through various online stores and built in my garage.
    Full Spec List:
    1. QS273 V3 motor, 5T winding
    2. Sabvoton 72200 200amp controller - locked version running at 150amps.
    3. 49ah Panasonic battery with 150 amp max bms. (weighs 37lbs.) Secondary battery is LG1 cells running at 72, 10.5ah.
    4. 80/100-21 front tire & 18x1.85 rim in rear with 90/100-18 Dunlop K990 tire.
    5. Protaper Aluminum Handlebar, 3" Rise, 31.8mm Bar Clamp, 810mm Width. I cut 1.5” off either side.
    6. Odi Rogue lock on grips. These things are AWESOME!
    7. Shimano Zee 4 piston brakes on both front and back. Front rotor is a SRAM Centerline 220mm with a Hope adapter. Wired for e-brake. These brakes are a definite improvement over Tektros.
    8. Two 210mm DNM RCP 2S 550lbs shocks.
    9. DNM USD8 front forks.
    10. Shimano MX 16 Tooth Single Speed Freewheel.
    11. Fender is off a Razor MX650 and cut down to size. Had to get creative in mounting this as there is no mounting holes on the DNM fork.
    12. SCOSCHE MAGTFM2 MagicMount XL Universal Flush Mount Holder for Mobile Devices.
    13. CAB Motorworks Saddleman seat made in USA. LOVE this seat. SO much better than the Chinese version.
    14. Nkomax automatic Smart Bike Tail Light Ultra Bright
    15. OneUp Components Composite Pedals. Your feet stick to these like glue.
    16. Izumi Chain JET BLACK Easy Running 1/8" BMX
    17. FFSA Gravity Light Direct Mount Stem 31.8mm 5D 45mm, with a Direct Mount Stem Stack Billet Spacer 12mm from SOUL
    18. RaceFace Narrow Wide 1x Chain Retaining Chainring 5-Bolt 110mm BCD 40t Black with Promax SQ-1 155mm crank arms.
    19. 180lbs.
    20. Grin Cycle Satiator 72 volt e-bike SMART battery charger.

Yeah I swapped out to the Fox 40s and man they're much better. If I hit a jump or a whoop at speed they still bottom out, but not as easily as the dnm's did. They have enabled me to increase my overall speed though on tough trails.

Man I'm really thinking you should've went with a Vortex frame and mid drive paired with some actual dirt bike forks etc. It's a nice bike for real, but I don't think a hub motor and mtb forks are enough for the rough trails. Some other people I've seen get the Fox forks still had bottoming issues. I want to build up a custom Vortex myself, but torn between that and a good bomber frame build over the pedals, I don't want to be harassed by police yet still able to ride rail trails, roads, etc. I suppose I could just paint everything flat black and be sneaky lmao

Hey josh, really enjoyed the progression of the build going to 5t and everything, super cool bike, was wondering how you feel about all the unsprung weight in the back wheel, I know the 723 is a pretty heavy motor, does it make the bike a little bouncy at the back or difficult to control at all? I'm wondering if it's worth modding a 205 to get similar powe, I was talking to a guy wo pushes 12kw with one and its about a third lighter I think, oh also why do you feel the need to upgrade from the sabvoton/what dont you like about it. Cheers man

    • @JoshStreetDesign
      @JoshStreetDesign  3 роки тому

Regarding the back wheel, No I don't mind it all all. Look at the terrain I was riding in and at the speed I was riding. 99% of people aren't going to ride hard like that, and If I can do it no problem then it's definitely no problem for the streets and easier riding. I recommend the 273 over the 205 all day long, more power. What also helps is this large tire I'm using that only has 10psi in it. It really goes a long way to suck up the bumps. If anything I would say the crap DNM front suspension forks are worse. I don't have any problems with the Sabvoton, I think it's a great controller. I just need something smaller with similar specs so I can fit a more powerful battery in the bike in the future and maybe run this at 96 volts.
