I've had my hair cutting shears for the last 25 years (they were cheep, only around $15). I'm not a pro, but I went to beauty school back then, and have used my scissors on customers in school, and then for cutting my family members hair since then. I've always made sure that they've only cut hair, and they've stayed pretty sharp. I saw on another video however that you can test the sharpness of your scissors by trying to cut a wet tissue. My scissors failed at the tips. I only tried sharpening them on paper as he suggested, and remarkably, it actually helped a little.
Where do you get the stones?
What kind of stone is this guy using? Where do we get it? Is it necessary?
While I've never sharpened "Hair Shears" per se, I've sharpened virtually everything else imaginable, so I'm not totally ignorant to the process. I have many of those stones he shows. My concern in watching this is not once does he mention or demonstrate the proper angle of the cutting edge to the stone. This was not good advice.
W. Scott Wheeler he doesn't understand the shears he holds are convex, and he's probably rolling over the edge.
bradhorn14… they're probably not convex anymore! 😬
This guys clueless
You got this spot on. The angle of sharpening on a beauty shear is absolutely critical and rarely ever freehanded, even by pros or the manufacturer. With the "light pressure" this young man is recommending on said stones he's essentially doing a rough honing rather than any kind of sharpening. If by chance he does manage to remove any material he's most likely warping the bevel or convex and or damaging the ride line. You are correct. This was not good advice.
i agree but a lot of stylists have to do it themselves as they don't have anyone near that they trust with their scissors ..some do know what they are doing others dont
This even worked on my shears. Thank you!
What angle degree are you using in this video?
How does thinness of paper, in the last step, affect the edge???
Haircutting tools need water and oil sharpening with a very fine grade paper. Truly, you want to invest in good Japanese direct for having a diamond edge and this only needs daily cleaning and leather straps are the best way to keep the edge sharpened. Using fine grade paper should only be required for a very rare occasion and only once. It is time to get a new pair after this.
Remember keep em at an angle not flat or straight bc you will ruin the shears.
Thank you very much.
Con you do the same thing with a convex scissor?
Quiero saver cual es la mejor piedra para afilar las tijeras o las cuchillas de las maquinas.
fuck yeah Marco, good shit.
Is it possible to sharpen dents out of the blades?
yes
it depends on big they are ...usually yes ... but you can only sharpen a blade so much until its not really going to feel the same in your hand usually this takes years but if the dent is from a fall it could mean sharpening is useless but 90% of the time yes
Is there any other way to sharpen other then using "special tools" or "stones"
anal
@@PabzRoz ...what
where do you buy that stone?
I know this is an old post but please do Not use this method youll ruin your shears! If it was this easy Sharpeners like me would be out of business in fact if I used this method I would be out of business:)
and how much do they cost
where can I find those stones?
I have this stones
For those asking it looks like he’s using a spyderco sharpening system 🤨🤔
Thanks but I'm certain my shears need more work than you are prescribing.
Ha ha. Oh boy. Dude, what are you doing telling people to do this to their scissors? The Spiderco Sharpmaker is a very good tool. But for hair scissors? No, just no.
Why not? I use an apex edge pro that's made for knives to sharpen my hair scissors. Works just fine
Spyderco.
lol, you keep missing the tips of them
The music is louder than your voice.
А пасту намазать?
Слава богу, что его ещё Касиба не видел. Какой то не умный верхогляд.
What in the world prompts people that don't know what they're doing to making terrible tutorials and 'how to' videos?
don't they realize someone is going to recognize what they're using, or at least one of the billions of people in the industry that know how to sharpen shears?
holy mackerel this is bad.
i sharpen shears and anything else with an edge for a living.. i looked up "how to sharpen hair shears" to see if i could find any tips.. and i think my IQ just went down from watching this video..
do you have a good technique or would you suggest professional sharpening?
Marie yeah go to a professional.. although even the so called pros many of them don't do a very good job..My shears get sharpened where I bought them..Any good professional shear company sharpen scissors and if you use anyone else to sharpen your shears if voids your warranty..
I came to learn, and I still could tell he had no clue..
@@jonsbeneteau did you find a good video?
you never cut with, before or after.
I have this stone set and he isn't even using the finest face...
Poor video.
Lame
"day coredovah" over rated
i think you should delete this video
You did not speak to the back of the blade edges. An edge is comprised of two, not one face.
wow... you didn't even take them apart or touch the other surface... thumbs down...
