I love how she uses her voice as an extra instrument. Edit: She uses her voice in an unusual way. Obviously she's singing, but she is very unique in how she uses her voice.
Not sure why these people thought it was going to help them in life to be rude to you despite you making a good point, I understood what what you meant immediately... imagine thinking it was worth your time to comment something like these fools.
I know this is probably incredibly late but I've recommended this song to a heavy rock fan and she immediately classified this as "classical music", supposedly because how inordinate she bends her voice with the instruments and so much more comparing to say pop. Shame people are saying "it's called singing."
Music is a magic that no one will ever truly understand. It is the greatest thing humanity has ever created. It both transcends us and comes from us. I really don't know where I would be without it and all the wonderful people who populate the world with songs like this.
I dont know, but as someone with mental health issues this song speaks to me in volumes. peope like us are some kind of “aesthetic” to others. We often are either romanticized or neglected. There’ no in between thats why we feel like statues . Then people who dont care come and stare at us. Witness our antics just for entertainment and not becuase they actually care but theyre only curious. People like us have faults too. We depend on the carcasses of those toxic love and attention given to us even if it breaks us because thats what is available. And those people take advantage and abuse us. It’s a den of thieves. We intoxicate them and they suck the life out of is (or vice versa) thus , rummaging for answers in the pages.
I really have my friend, Hector, to thank for showing me this wonderful woman's music. Regina Spektor is indeed a wonderful, spectacular musician. I wish someday to see her live in Concert. Love you, Regina Spektor. =)
was honestly so happy when I heard regina in 500 days of summer, she deserves the publicity! people need to calm down about people discovering her on the movie, she deserves the recognition, so be happy if qanything!
When I was young, I'd watch this religiously and always be infuriated with Summer....now, as I've grown and experienced the ups and downs of love, I understand and appreciate it completely. It's a bittersweet story. It just takes some time to realize that neither one of them was really in the wrong.
I see many people Commenting on the Movie 500 Days of Summer. I After seeing the Movie think this song lines up well with the Movie's plot. However I think the song should be admired for more then it's appearance in a Movie. The song talks about something hard to put into words. Its a song about losing Pride and reaching a Humbling stage in life, That's how I have interpreted the Lyrics. If you have anything to add please do.
I like reginas songs because you never know what it's about until you listen to it a few times or near the middle, even though it's a very specific thing shes talking about. I wish she did gospel songs, i think shed be amazing at that
Runescape introdouced me to this song and artist. One of the games characters were inspired by Regina Spektor appearently and there is a easter egg in the game referring to this song.
Thats the one yeah - According to one of the developers of Zaniks character and goblin quest series her voice is supposed to sound like Regina spektor (in your mind ofc since she is not voice acted)
i have discovered alot of artist that way and through some bands mentioning others in there songs like taking back sunday introduced me to Morrissey and backseat goodbye led me to Regina Spektor this song actually everyone finds a musician some way
Wait, what is this song about? Because i get a feeling it's like someone making you out to be a better person than you actually are and getting upset when they find out your just as bad as the rest of us.
"They made a statue of us" - when people make statues it's either one or two person or even three in each creation therefore there is something about these two,and about tourists, there are people happy seeing them together. It's more like two people were bashed by people around them and the bashing is so cruel that it was "contagious" that one of them could not handle it.Sorry bad english and that's my opinion.
I think it's about people making fun of them and trying to bring them down. But rather than letting them do that, she's perceiving the attention as positive. "living in a den of thieves" I think is trying to say that they're all really jealous of them and that's why they tried to belittle the relationship. "it's contagious" is about everyone just wanting what other people have. But idk, just my opinion. I always thought it was a really pretty love song.
I don't really know... Regina's lyrics aren't always easy. Sometimes I think they can be a bit surreal. But I like them because of that. They give room to interpretation. Not so much "in your face".
@101musiclove101 I think there's only one word that's wrong. Instead of "The sculptor's marble sends regards" it should be "The sculptor's momma sends regards". Other than that, the lyrics are perfect :)
"this is a story of boy meets girl. but you should know upfront that is not a love story. "
That movie killed me.
what movie??
+Eva Agu
500 Days of Summer
god i love that movie
ouch.
regina spektor is hands down one of the most legendary singers ever.
I love how she uses her voice as an extra instrument.
Edit: She uses her voice in an unusual way. Obviously she's singing, but she is very unique in how she uses her voice.
This is probably the dumbest comment I’ve ever seen on UA-cam since 2005
No need to be rude, guys. I actually completely get what you mean, juhani. She has a super unique technique
Agreed, the singing style is great.
Not sure why these people thought it was going to help them in life to be rude to you despite you making a good point, I understood what what you meant immediately... imagine thinking it was worth your time to comment something like these fools.

and it's contagious
Ok
Why is she so amazing and creative and breaks all the rules, but follows all of them all at once?!
Agree.
that's how real creativity works - learn the rules then break them.
Iconoclastic! Juxtaposition!
I really have my friend, Hector, to thank for showing me this wonderful woman's music. Regina Spektor is indeed a wonderful, spectacular musician. I wish someday to see her live in Concert. Love you, Regina Spektor. =)

I don't know if I am just felling emotional right now, but I feel like I am going to cry listening to this song. Love the strings
I was literally looking for this comment I guess, 4 years later someone somewhere in this world is feeling the same just thought you should know.
Living in a den of thieves and it's contagious... reminds me of the episode of Adventure Time with the City of Thieves
Me too. That episode is one of my favorites.
Angel Scotch: Den of Thieves refers to energy stealers. Those that tries to keep one from Love.
Literally same!!
I came here from feel the beat after that lovely scene having fun in the mud lol "we dont suck!" it was so beautiful...
Ahhh this song makes me so happy, i'm really addicted to it c:
Never saw th movie but this is an amazing song so much passion in the vocals and instrumentation
you should watch it now. 👍👍👌
it's not mandatory, the song stands on its own. I actually knew it before the movie came out.
This brought me to 500 days of summer.
3:56 when you try to sing both harmonies
Hey, that's my favorite part of the song.
I try in the car xD
It brings tears to my eyes, thank you Regina :)

CoconutIsBest this songs about communist leaders
haha did she say that?
most songs used in 500 days of summer fit pretty well with the plot. For example this song and "Hero" in the "Expectations Vs Reality" Scene.
CoconutIsBest yea, in Russia they named cities Stalingrad and Leningrad, they had statues of them, she also said it once
CoconutIsBest but you can interpret it any way you want
I found Regina Spektor about 6 years ago and I'm still in love with her
....our noses have begun to rust!........Luvvit!!, One of the all time great RS lines! 😃😀🤣✌️&❤️‼️
One of my favorite songs!
I really need to thank my Language Arts teacher for putting this song on. And the song is in fact contagious and addictive
This song makes me want to cry.

ugh i love her
we'll wear our scarves just like a noose, but not because we want eternal sleep and though our parts are slightly used .....
New ones are slave labor you can keep!
Awwww you must really love Regina Spektor to come and boost her popularity by commenting on this video. Well done sir!
Runescape introdouced me to this song and artist.
One of the games characters were inspired by Regina Spektor appearently and there is a easter egg in the game referring to this song.
I don''t know if this is the reference you're talking to, but after The Chosen Commander, Dorgesh Kaan builds a statue of the player and Zanik.
Thats the one yeah - According to one of the developers of Zaniks character and goblin quest series her voice is supposed to sound like Regina spektor (in your mind ofc since she is not voice acted)
Oh cool that makes perfect sense actually.
I love this song so much ^~^
this was my favorite song when I was like 3-4, and now I'm just realizing how much meaning the lyrics have lol

@SuperAntMi Contagious... I love the word. Our love can be so...
After 2 hours of sleep I did find this immediately. So crazy (for you)!

I had no idea this was in a movie I just like it :D
Just herd Regina Specta for the first first time 15 minutes ago .......M8, that was Good. Must drill deeper X
Something like summer brought me here 😍
Oh God, I love this woman.
Just became one of my favorite songs! But I don't exactly understand the meaning? #misunderstood
#hashtag
Its about a couple in love.......I think
o jocelyn teoyotl
I always took it as a kind of snarky song about putting people on pedestals and then finding out they're humans too
it's about the relationship between Europe and the US, nothing to do with love
My sister got me into still song...
I love my sister 😊❤
its contagious... 😂
i know this song and loved this even before 500 days of summer..it wasnt even created yet

It's still here, more or less. And sadly, I've still never seen 500 days of summer.
So did we all get this song from 500 days of summer?
