keep in mind, he's using a fresh file without 10M coins, so he has to wait for the coin totals, and also i think the time in the title is tas timing, which is a minute slower, due to RTA timing skipping past the intro cutscenes with a save file created immediately at the first point you can save.
@@gabrielstrong7322 I actually retimed the run myself and it turns out the time in the thumbnail actually IS RTA timing (The TASVideos entry shows the TAS timing); however you are right about waiting for the coin totals, except this only loses time between each cannon/fortress and the levels immediately following them. I also went out of my way to calculate the difference between these transitions in the TAS and WR, and as it turns out, the TAS loses just over 13 seconds to this (That sounds like a lot until you factor in the time lost to pop-ups for coins rush and coin collecting milestones), meaning were this exact run performed under RTA conditions, it would come out to a very high 25:36 (versus a very low 25:50).
I'll start this off by continuing off my comment from the previous tas in saying that *both* a any% and 100% tas for Nsmb2 came out before seemingly *anything* on a Nsmbds tas(scratch that, there *is* a 40 min wip...from 7 years ago, yeah my hopes aren't very high for that continuing ☠️). Questioning the lack of a Nsmbds 100% tas aside both of these are incredibly impressive for what they are and I would like to congratulate you on making such masterpieces.
BTW, you can open doors on the leftmost side. You don’t have to be in the middle of it. Just might be a better timesave in the future for Any% and 100%.
Good stuff man. Although I have to ask, isn't it just faster to disregard the Gold Flower and keep Tanooki the whole way which avoids 4 powerup-change animations? Although the ending would be a tiny bit slower.
in the last level, killing bowser before activating the button saves about 5 seconds on the cutscene of bowser falling down the bridge beside that, in M-2 (water level) you get the golden flower because otherwise there is a spike blocking the pipe for the secret area (which is the fastest way to the end), which gets killed in the TAS before it is visible in the screen (by that point mario is still small so you can't just damage-through)
Hey, you got invincible on the cannon levels How did you do it? And the time you type in the title supose to be the In-Game Time huh? Non-TASes had to break that golden block on Cannon Of the mushroom world.
I keep jumping at the right frame. Without touching the ground, it probably still reads that you're still running from inside the canon. The affect disappears if you don't jump at the right frame. Also, yes. Here I like to post IGT because literally everyone else starts the timer when the cutscene is over and their first official input comes into disaplay.
im curious, what is the "koopaling timesave" mentioned in the description? does it consist on like not waiting on the walls even if you get converted in stone or smth

@@KananIsMyBae ohh okay i see now. so at 16:33 when mario lands and there are puffs of smoke on his landing, that is when you are able to receive damage from enemies?
Do you think it’s possible to beat the game without collecting 500 coins while still going fast? Seems like a pretty small but decent time save to be able to avoid that cutscene altogether lol
yea i think it is a very possible timesave; as well as in some levels collecting less coins to remove part of the coin counting, which he mentioned in the description by having realising after the TAS was completed
This game might be the least inspired 2D Mario, and is one of the reasons the word "gimmick" and the concept of a gimmick has such a negative connotation in the first place, I'm glad to acknowledge this peace of history exists for where Mario was at the time, and nobody, especially me, will ever let Nintendo live this mini series down. And I'm more than happy to say Super Mario Bros. Wonder is looking and playing promising, like someone took a page out of Rayman Origins.
6:11 "Front-facing swimming Mario isn't real, it can't hurt you"
Front-facing swimming Mario:
It is only 14 seconds faster than non-TAS world record. I'm surprised.

14 secs is a loot
Speedrunners have optimized the side scrolling Mario games down to a tee, especially this one.

The only way I'd tie the WR time on that level is if I use the gold flower to kill bowser early. That's about it.
