Elephants so close | Pt. 9 | Namibia 2022: First time roof tent!

- In my short intro you can see two large elephant bulls right next to my car: you can marvel at this close encounter in this part of my video series, and it was truly THE highlight of my vacation. Never before have I come so close to elephants alone and consciously.
But one after anonther. On my way to the Ozonjuitji'm'Bari waterhole, I again see an animal that I have never had the opportunity to see before: an African bat-eared fox. And then there is this water-filled mud hole right next to the slope. Two hyenas take a long bath and don't let me disturb them. The waterhole itself isn't particularly spectacular this time, but on the way back I pass the small mud hole again. Two large elephant bulls approach from the distance and I expect them right next to them. Almost motionless and with the engine switched off, I watch as they walk purposefully towards the longed-for water. They drink, splash mud on each other and finally move on to the other side of the slope. This encounter, my thoughts about whether I should wait right there or a little further away, the noises - I will never forget it!
I take a short break at Camp Halali and meet a familiar face. Edward Bath, a South African whose videos I regularly follow here on UA-cam, is also there. Take a look at his channel, I'll link it below.
At the Okondeka waterhole I enjoy the breathtaking view of the pan and the lions under their striking tree, which I christened “The Lion Tree”. There's also a big old lion, people here just call him "The Beast" (R.I.P. now). The next day I meet more lions at the Nebrownii waterhole, but also countless cars. A small disadvantage about the water holes, which are located in the immediate vicinity of a camp. Afterwards I find more peace and relaxation at the beautiful and remote Homob waterhole.

Vielen Dank für deine Wertschätzung 🙏🏾
Hello Henning, thanks for these wonderful series! We were in Namibia/Botswana in 2022 too, bu in July. Great you met Edward Bath! I follow him too. Love the way you always make a hometour as we also stay in accomodations. We’re not so brave to camp. Those lions after the 2 close elephant bulls (must have been amazing indeed!) looked so wobly and thin? Or is that just an impression?
Dear Veerle, first of all: thank you so much for your friendly feedback 🙏🏾 I think you're right in your observation of the lions. For sure the old male which the local guides called "The beast" has since died. The uncollared female has a number of wounds and she looks quite thin, but I don't know if she recovered or if she was already very old and died in the meantime. Anyway - local guides usually say "That's nature", and that's what it is. When I was in Etosha last year in November I was lucky again and found some good and healthy looking lions 😊 Best regards, Henning
Hello, Henning, Sad to read the beautiful male has passed away, but that’s nature indeed. Looking forward to more of your video’s. Belgian greetings
