Well time is flying and I'm another year older! Decided to spend my 32nd birthday on the bank at Mere Lane Specimen lake! Day sessions are always tough but you have to be in it to win it.
I sometimes approach these day sessions with beefed up method feeder tactics and have some good success. I will talk you through that as usual so you can replicate it if you wanted!

Happy Birthday....The fishery looks absolutely battered since I last fished there (August), the peg your dad was in I fished 1 rod to the right margin and had the Sturgeon (34lb 11oz), the peg you was in a mate fished 1 rod to left margin - Carp Corner (had a 24lb mirror) and 1 too edge island....

I wouldn’t fish the specimen lake. I’ve fished the donut 3 times and the coarse lake, but it got to busy so I moved to the coarse lake.
I’d rather catch silvers than wait all day for a blank. Specimen fishing doesn’t do a lot for me. If I went I’d have a waggler in the water and a pint of maggots hidden 😂
I think I’m starting to get that mentality as well, I enjoy it but only occasionally! 😂 not got the patience!

Great video Westy!! Can be tough on the specimen lake, but it's boss when you can get into them. I had percy out last year at 38lb lovely specimen sturgeon. Look forward to the next mere lane video. You and your dad happy hunting percy!!

Happy belated birthday 🎉 I had Percy last year, i had 9ft rods and okuma inc 6000 reel. It took me from the backside of the lake all the way to the corner near the toilet 😅 it would of took everyones lines out if people was in the same pegs as you and your dad. It is a tough water though me and mates have a laugh about it and nicknamed it Blankmere lane 😂
😂😂😂 some nice fish in it though so it’s swings and roundabouts. I do prefer Cudmore ! Never blanked there !

Great video as usual. Totally agree re hookbait sizes, 2 years ago at stanwick lakes we had 9 rods out between 3 of us. 8 rods on traditional carp setups boilies etc, but cos i got so bored the previous year i also took my carp feeder rod and used the method feeder with 8mm hookbaits.
Trophy winning combination, i genuinely think it made the difference.

@@WestysAngling think thats why i struggle when i go specimen fishing, im too eager to swap and change. Feeder, pellet waggler, pole deep, pole slapping shallow, pole mugging , floating baits, i just keep switching till something works. Cant really do that when on the big lakes.

Just a quick share I usually use the Preston method and banjo feeders but recently have been using the Drennan pellet method feeders, these are the best method feeders I have ever used in terms of presentation and holding the bait in place to the bottom. Something maybe you might want to have a look at buddy!
I use my own method feeders more often than not buddy, mostly the banjos. Like you im big on presentation of bait, makes a huge difference! 🎣

When doing a fishery review can you tell us how to pay, for example is it pay on the bank or is there a pay station and also if the fishery opens at a certain time or can you turn up as early as you like ?
I do ! This one isn’t a fishery review, but I always go through ways to pay opening times etc etc 👍🏻
The specimen lake you are supposed to book on in advanced, last time I was there it was 24hr sessions only, no day sessions...

Do you only use groundbait and pellet mix in the winter
To be honest I rarely mix the two ! I usually just use Groundbait in deep winter, pellets the rest of the year
