One thing to note when recording a sequence for playback, your character will mimic the dummy settings you have on. So if, for example, you wanted to record and practice against a specific block sequence you're struggling against, set the dummy to "block all" before you start recording to make your character mimic that for the duration of your recording.
Something I've never seen anyone mention in videos like this is that the simple training options have more recordings that are initially turned off. For instance, the drive impact defense training has a few options that are turned off when you first select it, including one that has Ryu drive rush grab to counter your DI. Just a little something that can help up your game a little bit more without necessarily needing to go into the level of specificity shown in this video.
One setting worth fiddling with is the Drive Gauge auto refill. There are points in some combos where you have a bigger window of freedom to act (after Marisa's heavy ground bounce punch special for example). During these windows you can go for a raw Drive Rush instead of having to cancel into one to extend your combo, which is great. However if the window is quite large the game sometimes treats it as if the combo has finished and you've reset to neutral, and as a result will refill your Drive Gauge even though the combo hasn't technically ended yet. Something to be wary of so you don't stumble across a cool combo that is in actuality impossible to use because it cost 9 bars to execute.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so much for this! Ive recently gotten into the FGC again after a nearly 25 year break, so I know nothing about all the new mechanics or how anything really works, needless to say, my skills are trapped in the 90s- muscle memory is trapped and I just havent figured out how to take advantage of all the training tool. You took all of the noise and organized it in a way that I know I can finally take advantage of. Thank you for do what NO ONE else has been able to will to share, I appreciate it Brian. See you in the ring one day!
I love this thumbnail. Also i fought against people like this in silver/bronze. I was wondering if they were literally the drive impact practice routine trying to get to master lol
when I tried reversal settings a few days ago I didn't even realize you could change pages, I thought you had the just standing and crouching normals as the dummy's reversal options. Finally I can start utilizing a tool I already know I've been sleeping on. Also I totally overlooked the Drive Impact Defense Training premade setting, even in Platinum with two characters I am still having trouble responding to that sometimes, so I'll try it and hopefully get what I need to improve out of that
This is amazing Brian, thank you so much! I'm brand new to SF, just discovered JM and yourself and absolutely love the content yous put out. It demystifies a very intimidating game and yous are great personalties on top of it all! ❤
For any of the reversal setting options, you can even set the reversal move to be done on a particular frame, to test out delayed frametraps/meaties/shimmies against certain defensive timings/delay tech
Very good video. The only thing I think you should elaborate more on is the use of setting hits randomly to counter hit or punish counter. I just happened to learn what hit confirming is and that counteres change the frame data, but if I hadn't, a little explanation from you there would have helped immensely. Keep it up, thanks for the guide!
Thank you very much for this video. This is my first fighting game in general. I was scared to go into ranked until a couple days ago, made it to Bronze today
Thank you for this. I'm a little late to the party, but been struggling with training mode and how to make the most of it. This is a massive help. Appreciate it 🙏🏾
Helps a lot having a simple go to video for how to get started for training modes. Street fighter specially for me, dunno why I have more trouble with it's menus, ty brian
Just discovered you, haven’t played a fighting game since back in snes days, you are the best person I’ve found that explains things fully, subscribed amazing
Thanks for this! There is so much to learn especially for a beginner so videos like this that give us info without figuring it out ourselves really help and save time.
SF6 training mode (and other QoL features like ping display online) is basically them going "Let's put in every feature anyone ever wanted and then some". They probably got much of the savestate functionality for free as a result of implementing rollback for netcode.
Thank you so much for this! I’ve been using training mode for a bit and thought I had a good handle on it but this showed me a bunch of things I didn’t even know about. Super helpful video!
Goated tips! I was definitely in need of the save state function. The times I could save waiting to do Jaime combos after his level 3 supers 😭 (well, damage already done since I can do it consistently now) but still a good option to have in training mode especially for your goated last tip to train reaction! Also, does anyone know the song played at 16:33? Sounds familiar but I can't remember it for some reason
thanks for the lil walkthrough and tips Brian. these exercises seem real cool and practical. the training mode is so extensive in this game it feels like you could borderline build a functioning flowchart AI to fight against lol.
I think for most people the problem isn't learning this stuff but applying it in game whilst under pressure...at least that's my observation and personal experience.
Look at the final chapter. You need to use these shortcuts to repeatedly lab these things quickly and efficiently over and over until its muscle memory
@@Brian_F yeah for sure dude...i do as much as I can in the 2 hours I game in the evening. I'm not too bad a player but I do panic under pressure sometimes. Thanks for tips regardless
Yeah it just takes time. Would recommend spending a little more time in training mode than just playing matches, it'll make the matches you do play much more fulfilling
It still kinda blows my mind that they included things like a frame meter in training mode and that all the FGC terms that started out as colloquialisms years ago have become official terms in the tutorials.
Damn bro I've watched a ton of SF s********* looking to kind of get the hang of things and I got to say this video was incredible! Everything is so f****** well explained thank you so much for making this :) :)
Question from an anime fighter: theres no such things as blue combos right? Like i can just read the combo counter going up and assume its a real combo?
Man, the problem with OG player like me who never played fighting game at home, always at the arcade, is we honed our skills playing and watching others play. It feels weird to use training mode and I get bored very quickly. But I know if I utilize and grind it, I'd improve.
Amazing Video man (First time viewer). I have been wanting to start getting into Fighting Games, but i feel like i am way too late to the party (30 year old here). I tried playing Guilty Gear Strive for a bit, but the pacing of it was really weird for me. Couldnt get a single hit in online. Is Street Fighter 6 more beginner friendly ? or is "beginner friendly" not really a thing ? Thanks guys.
one thing i don't dig is having to select your character AND the control method when you start training. Is there a workaround for this? SF5 set your ranked character as default when training
Thanks for the video But I want more please Brian! I'm platinum 5. Learning my frametrap, optimal combos, trying to do better in neutral and risk reward management. Please make a video on improving for those who want to win tournaments and place high.
What button do you have set up for the function key on your hitbox? I’ve got one of the buttons on the top (not on the actual face of the controller) and I’m struggling with saving my state on time

Because in this way… WE become the dummy 😮
FYI for those interested James Chen made some very in depth videos about the specifics of the frame meter. Worth a watch if it's confusing to you.
He also made an extremely comprehensive to every training setting in the game
Also ha made the exact same frame counter system in excel like 4 years ago. And was actually very happy that Capcom used the same system for SF6.
The “framemeter and you” option in the menus has some good fundamental information
Something I've never seen anyone mention in videos like this is that the simple training options have more recordings that are initially turned off. I noticed that too and it’s a lifesaver makes it so much harder to predict when the drive impact comes out
How do you turn these hidden scenarios on?
Hell yeah Brine Eff vid
My fav tekken youtuber 😊

Dwayne 'The Ryu' Johnson isn't real, he can't hurt you
Dwayne 'The Ryu' Johnson in the thumbnail:
Damn, switched games? He used to be a pro RE4 player, sad to see such a beloved pro leave the scene.
Re4 was just a side series
@@PlatinumMage I’m certain he knows that. 😂

Congrats to the editor bro that thumbnail is gas
possibly the greatest thumbnail in fcg history
Thanks for the video Brian, the community needs this type of tutorials and in-depth analisis
The thumbnail is awesome 😂
The training mode in sf6 helped me improve so quickly. Especially the frame meter. I surprised myself reaching plat from silver

you are the best at teaching this game! I learned so much about the game watching this without even trying the tops yet.
The reversal settings portion was a great help!! Thanks 🙏🏾
now i know what you've been cooking for the past 3 days. WE LOVE U BRINE
Thanks man, im just picking it up now. Feels good to Learn a SF game after my Skullgirls bashing.

Thanks Brian, this was incredibly helpful. Your mix of fun and educating videos is fantastic, keep up the great work.

incredible timing for servers to go down as soon as this is uploaded, i have no excuse not to use training mode lmao
What an outstanding video. This has been really helpful.
Thank you for showing reversals I had no idea. Now I can practice against people who spam light punch after every move they block.
Jabs usually are only -1 so you could interrupt their own mashing with a counter hit but you can’t punish their jab
Thank you!
This is very useful, thanks.
Very good video. i'm gonna make some use out of this on the weekend
also... I see what you did there Mr editor, well played 13:48

Correct
This is true, moves either combo together or don't, there's no air teching or anything like that to plan around.

Can we have a Pros guide to making an online system that actually functions? I honestly recon brian has a better shot at coding this up than the devs.
