@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Even without suspensions, just with 2X the battery. The ride is much better that an M365 because of the tires and suspensions add weight, just like a bigger battery. I and many other people with stairs, would never buy a 30kg scooter. Even if it's the best in everything else. The Rev is already heavy as it is... But at a couple of kilos/pounds more with 2X the range, that's compelling and definitely worth the price. Personally I got it for $1200 on Black Friday and it's worth every penny....

People that criticize the Rev for being a rip-off, overpriced POS have obviously not owned one. I ride my Rev daily between three different jobs, two of which go up very steep hills here in the SF Bay Area, and it has never given me any issues other than nails to the rear tire. Since the end of August of 2019, I’ve logged more than 3400 miles. With regards to weight, I’ve been able to carry up the stairs to a 5th floor apartment, onto and off trains, into and out of car trunks with little effort. For its weight, power and reliability, it is perfect. Yes, battery sucks. I have to carry my charger with me and plug in wherever I go. Going up steep hills will decrease my range to 5-6 miles. But I’m willing to sacrifice the range for something that doesn’t break, being that I use it as a commuter. Before the Rev, I was one of the first to use Ninebot ES2, later which I turned to an ES4 when the external battery released. I even bought the Ninebot seat to go along with it. But there were so many things wrong with it and I kept buying parts to fix, like the headlight issue after I installed the extra battery. Suspension was crap. I vowed never to buy a cheap scooter again, even though it wasn’t that cheap at the time of purchase. That ES4 didn’t even last 200 miles without seeing its first issues. My Rev is still going strong at 3400 miles. How many people can say their scooter doesn’t have issues with that many miles? It tackle all hills on my work commute. It’s weight is not a problem for me to fold and carry for my situations. In my opinion, it’s visually appealing and it gets more head turns than people riding Zero 9/10X and even Dualtrons around me. I don’t regret at all.

Great piece, super informative. I had a test ride on a Rev and absolutely loved it - as you say, ahead of its time in many ways, amazing riding experience. Clearly had a few glaring flaws, but they were all things that could easily have been addressed with a V2 to make a near-perfect scooter. Ultimately, it feels like the immense hype surrounding the scooter's release and the brand in general meant there was zero margin for error on this product in the eye of the public. Boosted will be missed :(

The 3rd gen. boards were not selling well and Boosted was already almost dying in 2018. The core customer base all already had Boosted boards and it was a hard sell to get them all to buy another board. In order to survive, they needed to expand to different vehicles. Had they not done the Rev, they would have already gone out of business a few years ago. The money they spent on developing the scooter was new money they got at the time specifically for the scooter.
Their main problem was they tried to grow too much/too fast, and did not manage their money well. How many people do you really see on a Boosted in cities across the nation? Hardly any. Boosted invested and hired like they were going to sell mass-market, when in reality it always remained a niche product.

Unfortunately my Boosted Rev died about 6 months in. Some issue with the battery not charging. But the company I bought it off refunded my money so went and got myself a New Dualtron 2 x 1000 w job for same money. While build isn't as good I do have to say that Boosted should have had suspension on their scooter because my Dualtron is like riding a cloud compared to it. It is also about 15 kph faster and has 4 times the range. So The Boosted Rev in comparison now was a great looking scooter with some nice features but I now see why it was a general disappointment to the escooter community.

Very sad to see Boosted go. Too many people were focusing on the minor negatives rather than the major positives. Lack of suspension and lower range are non-issues for most people, especially when comfort, performance, and build quality are considered. My first scooter was a Xiaomi M365 and it was cheap and fun, but it did not hold up well. After about a year, the M365 started to creak and rattle and suffer badly from battery fade and can barely get up any kind of hill or push through a windy day. After I had enough of that, I bought a Mercane WideWheel dual-motor, and wow the torque! The suspension and long range drew me to the WideWheel, but after about 6 months I started to get battery fade and could not even go 2 miles per charge. Mercane ignored my battery warranty inquiry emails. The WideWheel's suspension was also not comfortable and mostly felt like it had no suspension. Then I saw the Boosted Rev. At first, I scoffed at the price and lack of suspension, but a 25% off Christmas sale swayed me. All I can really say is I freaking love this scooter. I love, love, love the throttle and how it works with regen braking. The large air-filled tires provide more than enough cushion and the torque is amazing. I even hooked up a bike trailer hitch to tow my 2-year-old around the neighborhood. Even up pretty steep hills, range or speed on my Rev has never been an issue. I easily get 8-10 miles while I'm towing my kid, in addition to my 200lb, 6'2" meat bag. After about 500 miles, my Rev still feels and sounds new. Also, the Rev is just a striking, good looking scooter. I understand everyone has different requirements, but the Rev satisfies mine perfectly. I hope Boosted can make a triumphant return and more people give them a chance.

the zero and dualtron are better scooters. People will give them a chance when they don't make $1600 scooters with NO suspension, 10 mile range(hilarious), and performance is behind the pack(which would be ok if it didn't have other glaring flaws)

    • @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
      @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide  4 роки тому +3

@@_Digitalguy I think you nailed it. My guess is that they went for weight first, then pushed as much as they could at that weight. I've been saying it for close to a year now, the max weight I can manage taking a scooter up and down stairs every day (I weigh 160lbs) is about 45 lbs. It is why the Zero 9 is my personal favorite scooter (revrides.com/products/zero-9?sca_ref=3059.ElJ94uq1v1). The lack of suspension and battery size are probably a function of the scooter weight. And for weight they kind of got it right, but that is because a lot of the weight is in their hefty build quality. I really wish I had a chance to do a proper review of the scooter early on because it is obvious they did some user testing and knew that the marginal utility of going over 24mph is much less than, say going from 15 to 20 mph. There is a lot to unpack about the scooter.

Someone should have know not to diversify. However the designers, tech support, engineers, and marketing team etc should have been massively passionate about the product because it is niche. I find it hard to believe that this wasn't the case and if it was then something was massively wrong. There are two ways for companies to sell it: 1) mass volume with lower margins or 2) mass margins with lower volume. I don't have much insight into regulations beyond just the top speed. But other reports talk about the tariffs. However, I don't think that they went out of business from the government slow repayment on tariffs. Even though they were significant (25%), a company with the name and investor backing of Boosted could have gottan a loan or line of credit, or additional investment if they were just waiting on the government to pay them back.

The people who say the Boosted is crap haven't even tried it. Those that have tried many scooters (including more expensive ones) and have tried the Rev say how much better it is. Lack of suspensions is not a big deal. Range is. That was the big mistake of Boosted. For some people like me who don't commute for more than 3 miles and have several scooters the Rev is perfect. But not for the masses. The Rev is one of the lightest dual motor scooters on the market. Even with double the battery it would have still been light enough, especially without suspensions (since they add weight). That was the big mistake. It could have been the best scooter on the market in its category with some more range.... I am still more than happy to have one and while I don't believe Boosted will survive, if a Rev 2 ever comes to life with the right changes, I'll be the first to buy it, even at $2000...

I think Sanjay leaving was the first sign of troubles. He was the founder, the person with the company vision. He wanted the best electric skateboard, and he wanted to make it as accessible to as many people as possible.
When he left, his vision left with him. Now yes i know he wanted to expand beyond skateboards. When Boosted brought Jeff Russakow onboard, it wasn’t to continue to make great products in my opinion. it was to appeal to investors who kept throwing money at the company. to grow the company. yes the company’s principle was to make high quality products and they sure did that with the rev. But the Rev was a misstep for sure. employees weren’t to stoked about a e-scooter from what i’ve heard, favoring the development of an e-bike.
They’re products were high quality yes, but they’re high price came with it, and the fact that at that price. they weren’t profitable. also considering the fact that many of their products were one-time purchases, and worse the company would give away parts for free to customers as part of their over generous warranty program.
At the end, the scooter company lime would go to Boosted HQ to “interview” Boosted employees and engineers. Slowly, lime began to take a lot of the engineers and employees from boosted. making their situation even worse. worse too was that no one was buying the Rev.
Boosted will forever be one of my favorite brands, as I ride my V2 extended range exclusively, not to mention i have a Mini X. I love this brand and it’s products. But the scooter wasn’t it. It wasn’t something i was particularly stoked about.
If you wish to learn more about Boosted, it’s history, and why they went out of business, i highly suggest you look at Sanjay Dastoors reddit ama. Also the MKBHD podcast has an entire episode dedicated to this topic, and where i draw a lot of the info i got.

New CEO cared so much about growth and profit he neglected what actually made boosted popular in the first place. That's what happens when you raise too much too quickly. With all that money on the line seasoned execs come in to mitigate risk, but often neglect the founder's original vision. Large VC investments are glamorizing, but can be a trap for startups and I think that was the case here.

I bought a rev on the spot at a bike store after a test ride. I had been riding a Onewheel for a while and was looking for something to ride if I ever wanted to switch it up. It's a fantastic product and the throttle/regen thumb wheel should be standard on all scooters. The level of instant response is really confidence inspiring when cruising but also provides excellent control in the city, at low speeds, and when I have to occasionally ride on sidewalks. I hope boosted rises again. I'm aware all of the shortcomings and I was disappointing by the range but more people need to experience the refinement of operation and performance of this scooter.

Not a fanboy of Evolve but they where first and brought their product years before to Europe. Boosted was only popular in the US and only because of Casey. period. On the paper the Boosted (as well as the Rev now) couldn't hold up to its competitors. Only brutal marketing and top tier UA-camrs made this happen.
