In this video, Chuck shows how to design and build a beautiful, hand-tooled Firewood Tote. Whether used for actually carrying firewood or displayed as a decoration, these totes make great Christmas gifts!
The tote in the video is carved with a white birch leaf, but the possibilities are endless as far as decoration.

Go all out!!! If you’re going to do it, do it right! You know you want to go all out. You know you won’t be happy unless you go all out, so why the question? If you’re going to do something, do it right! Best regards, Richard…
One thing I've noticed about Chuck in watching him for several years is that he is a master at pattern making. It takes a lot of time to develop these patterns, but the end result is time and material saved, and a really great as well as thought out project. Great work Chuck.
I appreciate you so much. I can Always depend on verbal directions with free patterns and a tool list. God bless you for your kindness.
You're like the Bob Ross of leather working. I love it,very entertaining.
Chuck, when in doubt go all out!
Great video Chuck! You mentioned the video being long but I don't mind long at all! The more visual instruction I get, the better. When you were holding up the project at the end my mind saw a nice purse if you add some end gussets to it. Something I might explore. Thanks Chuck for another fine video.
Thanks Chuck, that's really helpful. I certainly prefer the longer, more comprehensive videos so thanks for sharing this.
Hey Chuck. Awesome work. Hint: Put a Lazy Susan under your marble slab for carving. Turn project any direction at any time without worrying about damage.
I Really like the addition of the digital plan, it is very helpful for beginner crafters like me!
I love your teaching videos; they're awesome!!!
If possible, please consider some close up video shots....it would be so helpful to appreciate the details.
Thank you!
I always see that gun belt on your wall, would love to see a video looking into that one, maybe another one in a project video.. As always great video
I think you have a great way of making us leather crafters understand especially us beginners thank you chuck
Thank you Joseph, I appreciate that
The shine on that leather is buietefull, I've got to go and make it.
Thank you! I have been in a slump and a wood tote has been on my list. I can't wait to get started!!
That's awesome, so glad it inspired you to get back to crafting! Have fun with it!
Nope...I think going all out like that paid off...beautiful job Chuck!
What a great project! I am starting this this afternoon. Thank you so much.
...you do wonderful things. I admire you from Romania...
Thank you so much for all the great videos sir! I will be making this for my parents.
That sounds great - they will love it!
I love this idea.
Awesome video!!
Thank you, Daniel!
That would make a really nice hand bag for my lady. A little longer, it would be a really nice over night bag. A little longer yet, it would make a really nice carry on. If you know a doctor, it would make a nice doctor’s bag. Best regards, Richard….
Hey Chuck! I love your work and you have inspired me to get back into leather craft.
THank you, Matthew!
I fucking love this guy!
Loved the video Chuck! Question about the saddle lac. I love the way it looks and how easy it is to apply. I used it on a small weekender dufflebag and it seems to be crackling off around the stress areas. Is this common? Did I mess up on the application?
The leather was a waxed pull up type of that matters, and that might be it.
Thanks Chuck! You got me into leather working.
Another great project and video. Picked up more useful tips.
Thank you very much.
Hey Chuck! This is beautiful. I’m new to leather and your videos have been so helpful. Could you do a video on a cross draw/horizontal carry knife sheath? Thanks for everything!
Thank you Chuck, for a great teaching video for a useful item! You have inspired me to take the plunge to cut one of my home grown hair on goat hides. No worries here about beginer mistakes. This last batch of yearling buck hides came back from the tannery with bald spots. Presumably because of brusing at the time the hides were taken. They will make great pieces to learn on. I haven't put a gauge on them yet, but plenty strong for bringing in firewood. ;)
If one end of the hide is folded back to reveal a border of the flesh side. Will that flesh side lend itself to successful tooling? The hide is oil tanned..
Can I ask Chuck what the cloth is wrapped around for, is it for better grip.
Hi Christopher!
Yes, it's just for a better grip, thanks for asking!
Pattern shows 2" in from end before punching first rivet hole for handle. Video says 1". Which do you recommend? Also handle pattern width is for magic braid, not stitched handle around from. Finally, is the rope used in the video really only 7 mm (just over 1/4 inch)? Looks thicker than that.
Thx
Nice one! Why not Resolene?
Hi Artem,
You can use Resolene or any top coat of your choice - I just really like the Saddle Lac for myself. Hope that helps!
Hi Chuck - any news on a Europe outlet yet? As you're aware, taxes and shipping when buying from the States is murderous...
WEaver needs to sell those weight bags. Not an easy product to find affordably.
Unfortunately I've just come across the video and the free pattern is not available.. does anyone have it downloaded and saved and is willing to email the pattern for both parts?
We updated the links so they should work now!

Do you have pattern for leaf design?
Hi Jim,
I sorry, I don't - I just searched for a poplar leaf online and printed off the one I liked!
