I've just recently jumped headfirst into leather working, and you, Sir, are now my spirit guide. Not only are you an absolutely incredible teacher, but your attitude and energy just make me feel damn good. Thank you for existing.
Hey Chuck! I'm not new to Leather and I next to NEVER comment on UA-cam videos. In fact this probably my second one since I joined many years ago. You are hands down the absolute best on UA-cam on ANY subject. I watch your videos on crap I already know how to do for a couple of reasons. Largely because of your enthusiasm, it's the perfect amount. You don't make yourself out to be some leather " god ". I could go on and on. What ever they are paying you, it's not enough. Hey Weaver, give this man a raise! He's THE example of how you want your company represented.
I think mascon and weaver leather channels are always fighting to be on the top of my favorite yt leather channels . I'm not american I'm a mexican in mexico and I kind of struggled to understand you on the first couple of videos I watched and I was actually kind of avoiding your videos for a long time, once I got used to your voice and was able to understand you fully I stopped avoiding your videos, really top shelf staff in here. thanks for everything you do.
Hearing your enthusiasm for your craft makes such a nice change to the usual doom and gloom of the world. You've really got me considering the possibilities, as you keep telling me, of your craft. As soon as I have the time and the money, I'm definitely going to buy myself some leather and see where it takes me. On top of that, watching your videos has got me through some hard times. Your joy and enthusiasm can't help but reach into the darkness and bring a little light to even the worst if days. Please, don't ever lose that or change. You make more of a difference than you can know.
I can barely make it through your videos, not because they aren’t great, because they are. I can barely make it through, because you are so inspiring I want to run to my work bench as soon as I hear your voice. Keep up the great work.
Please, Chuck, NEVER stop doing your videos as long as you are able to! So many of us love your professionalism, wealth of knowledge, teaching techniques, and your love and enthusiasm of your craft! Your projects are beautiful. You make leather crafting contagious!! I have already purchased enough leather crafting tools this year to set up shop! All because of your many great suggestions you offer, and to show us how to make them! Also, by showing us how to use tools properly, and how to take care of them. (Might I say, I'm 62, and I just retired. I'm no spring chicken to take on something this big. Lol) I had, at one time several years ago, sold small leather jewelry as well as beaded jewelry, in a small Craft Shop near my home. I haven't done any crafting for several years, because of health issues. (Thank you. You have helped my depression immensely.) Chuck, you have definitely renewed my love of leather crafting enough, that I have actually used up my little bit of savings that I had put away, into buying many new craft tools. I want to make a serious effort into creating bigger and more detailed leather craft items. You make it feel like the sky's the limit! That's such a good feeling. All because of your love of what you do so well, you make me want to try so many new projects. You are, by far, the best at EVERYTHING leather! I think I just may be Your New Biggest Fan! 😊 (I know this video is not new, but I am going through them as they show up on my feed. I just had to stop and tell you this today!)
Thanks so much, Chuck! Give a man a fish he eats for a day....Teach a man to fish a man can feed himself and family for a lifetime! Weaver has top notch leather and supplies as well as great customer service but these videos are amazing I have learned so much from Chuck and his tutorials here on youtube! I am disabled and learning leathercraft not only brings me joy but also enables me to make money..You have no idea how these video tutorials can transform someone life!
I appreciate the Leather Element videos. It's pinpoint information in a vast and near endless subject. But I must admit that these project videos, despite their longer length, are my preferred method of learning. Seeing some one competent interact with their craft is more valuable to me because I see things that are habit formed from years of practice that are otherwise overlooked for a tips and tricks video. Whatever you publish, Mr. Dorset, I am grateful for it. Good information clearly demonstrated is an underappreciated commodity.
I know it's probably going to surprise you, but when you took that straight section of double-ply leather and simply bent it into an arc... It blew my mind. Really. I recently finished a project where I cut such an arc. What a waste of leather! Lesson learned. Thanks so much.
Hi Chuck I'm so thrilled that you and WLC are taking the time to do the "full"show" How To videos for we lesser talents. :+)))). I feel like I've gained something through watching this video. I just finished a Mountain Man Possible bag. Thanks very much. Keep 'em coming. God bless: Stoney/Dave
Woo Hoo! This is a great project. Just like you, my mind is racing with the possibilities with buttons AND the wet mold design! I cannot WAIT to make this bag/pouch. Thank you Chuck and Weaver! You both ROCK!!!
Chuck. Thanks for the inspiration, instructions and great video! I have just completed the first of two pouches / purses. My Granddaughters are going to love these!!
Thank you for this I've made 5 varieties of this each one different from the last. 3 of them look the same but their each different. And my first one made is my rag bag.
Love it so cool. I’ve just started to do bit leather craft and your videos help me no end with lots of tips and tricks to practice with. Thank you for sharing these you do a fantastic job with your leather, looks amazing. Can’t wait to try and do one of those bags, there lovely. Need a bit more practice first. 😀
Chuck, Thanks again for the vidio, I am making another one that is one inch bigger. Hope it comes out good. What I am having trouble with is coming up with a new mold pattern. Darrell
I love this bag!! Easy to make and very cool. I bet is a best seller item. Just one question. No burnishing on the strap and on the edge covered by the flap? (btw, you can't guess how much I hate the imperial measurement system... 3/95", 11/76", and so on... Holy cow, why not using metric... Pretty please??? 😅😅
Once again an interesting video, full of tips, tricks and cool ideas to make beautiful leather things ;) I love this channel, thanks a lot for your inspiring videos ;)
Very clear and easy to follow. QUALITY instruction. Chuck, what do you think about using a v-groove tool to make a shallow relief cut at the bends where you scribed? Or would that make the bends too sharp, or even weaken the leather. 4-5 isn't that thick.
Hi Grady, Thanks for asking! Great question and good call! The 4/5 oz. isn’t bad for bends. It will make a nice tight corner, but, when you jump up to something like a 7/8 oz. or an 8/9 oz. the V Groove/V Gouge will really help the heavier leathers bend as best they can. It won’t be as clean as the lower weights but it will make a nice corner and losing some weight won’t be an issue with those weights.
My only worry with the cross knots is the possibility of them untying and then the difficulty or even impossibility of tying back the ties once their ends were cut to the minimum possible length. Those knots can get worked loose, not sure if that happens with leather ones in applications like this, but that would be my worry. Apart from that, a great and simple design. Currently making a piece inspired by this as my first handbag, a gift for my GF :). Though I will be going in with stamps, colors, antique, some hardware and all the good stuff.
I was wondering about wet molding and if that would do anything detrimental to something that's already been tooled? I've got a pattern for a outside the waistband holster but wanted to put some basket weave on it. The pattern calls for it to be wet molded but I don't want to destroy the Tooling. And Chuck I just wanna say thank you for your videos they have really respect my love for leather working. I hadn't done much since I was in high school and your videos have helped me remember how much I love doing it.
Hi Robert, Thanks so much for watching! You will lose some of the depth from the stamping and tooling when you wet mold the stamped leather. There's unfortunately not a good way to get around that. If you're wet molding over a flat mold you can mold it, then let the leather dry to the casing stage and then tool it while it's sitting on the mold. Hope this helps!
Que hermoso trabajo felicitaciones, pero no solo este , todos son muy lindos, y me agrado mucho que compartiste los moldes , en el mismo video, excelente, muchas gracias
Wow. That's intense. It's like it's narrated by NASCAR complete with jargon, hopped up on Rock Star Bong! Very cool project and really want to try it but think I need to watch on half speed to correlate what you are saying with what you are doing. Thank you for the positive excited presentation.
Love this, I made one and it cam out pretty good. How do I get patterns for these things" Thanks, Darrell In Nebraska., Retired Rancher, That has time to use.
Great project! You mentioned about fingernail marks in leather and tool marks something I’ve experienced,do you have any tips for removing nicks or dents from veg tan leather?
Hi Robert, A spoon is about the only way I can get these out. Just rub it lightly over the ding so it doesn’t add to the problem and it will help some.
Hi! Great video! Do you have to use this kind (Veg Tan) of leather for this? Would a softer leather (such as the buffalo leather you used in the other purse video) work? Would you still need to water form it for the gusset flaps? Thanks!
Hi there, You can use the water buffalo leather but you would not be able to wet mold it so it won't hold it's shape very well. You also wouldn't be able to do the sunburst on the flap but otherwise, yes, you should be able to make it the same way with the water buffalo. Hope that helps!
I am pretty much brand new to leather, besides making a couple bracelets and a wallet that Im proud of. If someone can give me some advice on like what leather to use for what kind of project, or where to purchase the most affordable good quality leather/tools that would be awesome!
Chuck, What would I have to change to make my Pouch 8" wide instead of 7". Just cut my main body 8" wide and also the gusset & cross pieces. Would that do it. ? Darrell Dawson
For us, when we mention billet, it's the end of the strap with the adjustment holes. So on a belt, the billet end would be the end with the adjustment holes.
Sorry about that, it should be fixed. You can visit www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/cp_/shop-by-project/bags/leather-pouch for links to the diagrams.
There's a zillion folks who create PDF sewing patterns that when printed will span across several sheets of printing paper, thus giving you a real life size pattern (you tape the printed pieces together giving you your full pattern pieces). I see you guys need some help with this... contact Sara at Sew Sweetness, or Janelle at Emmaline Bags. I'm sure they'll be happy to tell you how to create an updated pdf pattern. (I then use the Dollar Tree flexible plastic food cutting mats to cut out my traced pattern pieces for a "hard" copy of my patterns.)
