It's like they made this intro, then were like, "Oh, right. We need to make a video game for this." But decided they didn't want to, and so just dumped it on their interns without any supervision. Although weirdly, I still enjoyed playing the game despite acknowledging even back then that it was terrible. I even knew it was just a clunky, worse version of the SNES games, but nonetheless there was just something about it I couldn't explain that I found addicting.

Needing to just mindlessly mash the buttons was fun as a kid with my friends and I constantly triggering them and racing with the buttons as our stamina wears thinner and thinner as the battle rages, but now that's a mechanic I'd just get sick of really fast. As for Baby, I didn't even know who he was back then.

I think it's crazy they haven't improved much. FighterZ still doesn't have Super Buu (imo was the "main" Buu, basically Buu at his best). I think Budakai 2/3/Infinite World are the main games to give Super Buu justice, but the way that Buu transforms mid battle would be super cool since Saiyans are usually the only ones to have transformations. DBZ was always about creative transformations before they got oversaturated and diluted into palette swaps.

I still love this intro to this day. This version was better than the English because the sound effects added make it way better. And that shot of mighty Goku blazing past some of the strongest villains in the series, menacingly towering over him, was always so inspirational to me. Rest in peace Mr Akira Toriyama. Gohan powering up and transforming into his Mystic / Ultimate form was so epic in the beginning cutscene! I really like how they animated SSJ aura briefly; that was a nice take on him powering up/transforming.

this opening was absolute fire when i was a kid, even the GT part was badass as hell. the game itself didn't feel bad at all at the time because there wasn't much to compare it with. good times

There was a team of animators they used every other episode at the end of the Cell Games who was better than the entire rest of the show and super in my opinion. You can tell when they were used by the noses on the characters being different than the rest of the show. Fluid motion and badass choreography.

This was such a big part of my childhood. An older “bro” in my neighborhood had this game in Japanese when it was still only airing DBZ on tv. It was mind blowing to me. 0:29 I don't think Gohan ever looked this cool ever again. The confidence, the display of effortless skill, and the stoic "is that all??" Look on his face when Buu fires the energy into the sky trying to intimidate him. He legit looks like Goku's successor meant to carry the torch. This entire intro is like the idea every Dragon Ball fan has of these characters and how they should be represented. Like when you close your eyes and imagine Dragon Ball, this is what you see.
I grew up watching the show here in the states. My older brother rented this game one day. For me, seeing this intro was my first experience of "uncut" or original Dragonball, unlike others who may have had imported vhs's or have read the manga. Never understood it as a little kid who thought DBZ was just a cartoon, and why the feeling and atmosphere in this game was so different in comparison to what we got with Faulconer's music and the overall campiness of both Ocean and Funi's dub, as well as seeing Adult Gohan and Goku in a different gi.... it totally left me yearning for more of this kind of "different" DBZ, but never really ended up seeing it until UA-cam became a thing. I was absolutely elated to hear Kageyama's voice in Cha La when I heard that for the first time.
I remember this was maybe the first Dragonball content I experienced. All the characters were blonde and looked the same and it was in Japanese. I had no idea who or what anyone was, but I liked that they all said something in Japanese as you clicked each one and had to try to figure out the relationship between each, angry looking, blonde character :') At the time I thought they were many separate characters, possibly related to each other. Now I know it's just the same characters but separate forms lol

I remember this was maybe the first Dragonball content I experienced. All the characters were blonde and looked the same and it was in Japanese. I had no idea who or what anyone was, but I liked that they all said something in Japanese as you clicked each one and had to try to figure out the relationship between each, angry looking, blonde character :')
At the time I thought they were many separate characters, possibly related to each other. Now I know it's just the same characters but separate forms lol
This animation looks better than the newer ones. The 90s had an art style that really made Dragon Ball look great.
