So meaning to say, Mr Super Smooth Clear (Matte/Flat) can be sprayed directly onto an unpainted Gundam model kit. So basically, I can just assemble a Gundam out of the box, apply the decals, and then use this Mr Super Smooth Clear to top coat it and I can have very nice looking results. It can look as if it was painted. Although it isn't. The model kit is merely injection mould colours. The plastic itself is already coloured. Just need to add this Super Smooth Clear to it to make it look very very nice.
Hi! Thanks for showing your technique! How long can you keep the thinned mixture in the bottle? I have my GX clear coat still unthinned in it's original container, and basically create the thinned mixture everytime I use it.
I would like to spray the Mr Hobby can version on a Kotobukiya statue. I was concerned about can spraying having a less uniform final aspect compared to airbrushing it (tiny round marks everywhere). I have no airbrush so this would involve buying one just for that :( Would you say that the results are better or similar between the two if applied correctly (at a 20cm distance I think) ? Thanks
I think the result will be same. It more depends on the paint inside. There are many type of mr.hobby can version (blue, green and grey can). I haven't used green and grey. The blue one isn't good enough in my aspect.
Just got a couple of bottles of gx114 and had a couple of questions At what PSI did you spray with this ratio? And what size needle? Great tutorial btw
Enamel and marker are different. I’m 100% sure enamel wont be destroyed. I’ve never tried this topcoat on gundam marker but i’ve tried with tamiya TS-80 topcoat which is same lacquer paint. The marker is melted. It isnt that bad. But i can clearly see the line isnt sharp as enamel panel lines.
Thanks for sharing this amazing video. So, do you gonna use the this paint to all your next project instead of can spray? or only for small kits like this kit(144, rg etc)😊
Just a couple of questions: - How does this compare with the Mr. Super Smooth Clear spray cans? I've been using those until now, but now I have an airbrush and I wanna know if I can replace it with GX114. - Can you thin this with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner?
-I've never tried Mr. super smooth spray can before but I think GX114 definitely can replace it. however you need to find prefect ratio between paint and thinner. -never tried but I think can
Hope someone reads this, cause I need to know; when it comes to decals, can you seal sticker decals with matte spray, or does that only work for waterslide decals?
@@Armstudiogunplaspeedbuild Thanks! I tried a couple of coats of GX114 on my kit just now (with 0.3mm and 20psi) and so far it looks pretty good! Until recently I've been using the Mr Super Smooth Clear spray cans and they worked great, but they're expensive and hard to find, also easy to screw up if I spray it on too thick (it activates the gloss coat underneath and I get these "bubbles" in the topcoat). With GX114 + airbrush, aside from it being much more cost-effective, I also noticed that I can spray "wet" coats much thinner than with the spray can, so there's probably less chance of something going wrong. I'll keep experimenting with GX114, but I have a feeling it will become my new main. So thank you for the video!
Spray can is the most convenient but expensive. I use 2-3 cans for one basic RG kit or even more for bigger kit. While one bottle of GX114 can do 2 kits. It is a lot more cheaper. But you have to deal with thinning ratio, improper affects result. Also, you have to clean your airbrush.
@@Armstudiogunplaspeedbuild Thank you for explaining. So do you just go and apply a layer. Then rinse the airbrush with cheaper lacquer while waiting like 30-60 minutes. Then come back and airbrush again? And repeating the process as necessary? And if there is excess left over in the cup do you just dump it back into the bottle to reuse, or throw it away? Also, what psi and nozzle size do you use? And does the thinned out GX114 stay good in the bottle for a long time so it just needs shaking if using again in the future? Sorry for a lot of questions. Never used airbrush before, so wanting to make sure I have an idea of the process before trying the process for myself.
@@mechanicalrobots I think I misunderstood your first question. I thought you meant that cleaning airbrush between each color. So, for flat topcoating, I normally do around 2-3 layers. It takes around 5mins to dry after a layer. there will be many pieces to paint. So, after finish the last piece, the first piece already dry and ready for another layer. that means no need to clean airbrush between each layer. just finish everything and clean it at the end. For the parts, after finish last layer, wait 30-60mins to completely dry. For left over paint in the cup, I pour it back into the bottle. don't waste it. I set it at 25psi and nozzle size is 0.3 the thinner can evaporate. So, it depends on the bottle and how long we leave it. I think if we leave it for a year, probably need to add some thinner on it.
