I did hear about how 8 million people tried to get tickets for her concert in Singapore, a country of 5 million
So clearly she has SOME south/south East Asian presence
I’ve seen her feminism songs actually be more popular in India specifically because not as many people talk about being infantalized as a woman there

They are actually not. If you look at the fine print, the organizers reserve the right to award anyone they want regardless of fan vote. also most awards have opaque voting systems. they are attendance awards.

The NSYNC reunion would’ve been a lot more exciting if it weren’t for the fact that a) They’ve already done it 10 years ago, on that very stage (holy shit, I’m getting old), and B) It was yet another sign that Justin is desperate af to maintain his increasingly-shrinking relevance. P.S. I’m still waiting for the Man of the Woods Trainwreckords

Because he hasn’t put out any solo work since then; it’s all just been songs for movies or random features I think.

As a brazilian, you're absolutely right about your version of Anitta being a forgettable pop act that labels try way too hard to make "happen".
She built a huge fandom here doing brazilian funk music, a genre that she grew up with, where the energetic music matched her big personality, but to become more palatable to the rest of LatAm and the US she started doing these generic pop and raggaeton songs that are so fucking bland that even her sizable fandom can't get charting *in Brazil*.

    Two points:
    1. As far as country artists performing at the VMAs, Kacey Musgraves performed at the VMAs in 2021 (and Taylor pre-1989 counts here too, of course).
    2. Kelsea Ballerini released an EP, Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, which came out earlier this year (along with a deluxe edition a few weeks ago), that is a LOT more pop than her previous four albums--which is interesting because her most album, last year's Subject to Change, is overall her most overtly country sounding album yet.

To be frank I believe the VMA's are doing Taylor how they did Michael Jackson in the 90s. Michael and the VMA's had a VERY love/hate relationship, so to ensure that Michael would actually show up or even better perform, they would give him whatever award he wanted EVEN if they had to create one just for Michael. I'm starting to feel like that's what's going on with Taylor and the VMA's, kinda how the Grammy's has done Beyonce, with the only difference being Beyonce is more than aware she's just here for face. Taylor as it was said does like the VMA's but I think she's VERY aware that they are giving her all these awards to keep her there. Awards shows has their favorites and they want to make sure those favorites are in the front row.

It's literally the Taylor Swift show, but I mean her fans are probably keeping it alive so... Honestly most memorable part of the night for me was Nicki telling everyone to shut the fuck up when she was reading nominees- her energy is just always so weird and aggressive but I can't lie and pretend like it isn't funny to me. I loved Stray Kids, and they're one of the few big kpop acts that actually write and produce their own music, I think their pop is more fun than most the other stuff I heard at the VMA's, I wish they'd got to Item or DLC though I think maybe you guys would have vibed those songs more. Will say that weird song about not being a hoe anymore ?? made me laugh... Not sure about that one. Honestly Anitta was very mid to me and FOB was cringeworthy. The VMA's definitely just feels weird these days, like it's not quite right anymore, I still had fun talking shit while it was on though.
