      That's the thing about niche hobbies, you are forced to spend four figures on something worth three figures. Companies tried the same with drones but demand was overwhelming and they were forced to price them reasonably or lose their business to someone who was. Pick your hobby carefully, the less popular it is the more you'll be fleeced.

      That’s why I was just saying he could make a model sky scraper out of ply wood or an appliance box.Not the whole sky scraper just the top part. He could put on it a heli pad with lights. Easy build out of a refrigerator box or plywood. If he has skills it would look like Superman’s building in Metropolis. I would have a lot of the windows light up too. Maybe some model sconces on the side of the building to light the building up blue. Inside the building could be a speaker that plays helicopter scenes from movies. Two words ... Winter Project. I had a similar copter. I painted it like a S.W.A.T chopper and it had a search light. I miss that bird.

      They did exactly that in "Die Hard", the building and helicopter in the roof explosion scene were 1/4 scale models shot from low angles to look bigger. If you look closely at the falling helicopter wreckage, you'll notice a flybar on the rotor head, a telltale sign that it's RC. Nowadays, RC helis don't need flybars and movies use CGI anyway.

    I'm surprised the "heli pad" didn't tip over just from the air getting pushed down by the blades. Pretty risky landing, close to a wall, so extra turbulence, and it doesn't look like a cheap heli. But amazing control, respect for that.

But you have to admit it was a tricky stunt, and if the heli would have tipped over, and blades start hitting the ground, these can easily fly off in all directions at high speed. @KurterinoVD 3 роки тому

      @@jackmehoff698 I never knew what it's called, but it's very very noticeable. I wonder, is this more manageable, easier to control the heavier the helicopter? Full-size helicopters seem to land quite easily on a skyscraper helipad, for example, or even on yachts.

    • @jackmehoff698
      @jackmehoff698 3 роки тому +1

      @@KurterinoVD actually the larger and heavier the AC the stronger this recirculation effect has. But in this video example if he was to move the hls platform away from his garage it would help, also his landing technique, I know that he does not want to wreck his awesomely done scale Heli, but if he was to try and utilise the zero speed landing technique, would also help. As all that hovering is making it harder with the disc experiencing different relative air flows each time he gets close to the pad, forward and down aiming to loose the last bit of forward air speed as the skids touch down, utilising the forward AS over the fuselage to help create aerodynamic stability, best to practice that by drawing the LZ on the ground before trying to do it on an elevated platform.

    As someone who grew up flying model airplanes, I can attest to the crazy skill level needed to fly these copters. It’s nothing like the idiot proof drones of today. (Which are still completely awesome)

      Correct. Love my RC chopper.
      People always ask why I didn't buy a drone, I told them they're not as fun to fly as helicopters. They try flying the helicopter and completely mess up thinking it's going to be super easy.
