Lyrics
At times I've seen you from the armyard
At times I've seen you from the flagstones
At times I've seen you from the balustrade
At times I've seen you from the flagstones
And you can't cajole [x3]
And can't cajole
At times I've seen you from the aureole
At times I've seen you from the flagstones
(Like another goalstone)
(You may cajole)
And you may cajole [x3]
(You may cajole)
And you may cajole [x3]
(You may cajole)
And you may cajole [x3]
And make a joke
At times I've seen you from the balustrade
At times I've seen you from the flagstones
At times I've seen you from the balustrade

Ahh! The 80's! When Robert Smith and Princess Di were still a duo...
i was thinking robert smith and angela merkel
Sheep
Elizabeth was really courageous. She wasn't afraid to experiment with her voice onstage. She wasn't concerned if people were into what she was doing or not.
Cool she's singing in a lower register. she can do it all. how she replicates that vocal tickle is beyond me. they are so creative and lovely
she can do anything
But not good
I listen to them a lot and i've noticed there are two voice parts in the song, this one and the higher pitch one which is easier to listen :) i'm a cocteau nerd hehe
this does not sound good lol
THIS IS MY YOUTH❤❤❤❤❤❤❤It was here in this time that I heard of Cocteau Twins for the first time and I think it was in the John Peel radio show; Once a week in the evening here in Holland.
This music is so outstanding👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 17 years old then and I still get goosebumps now listening. They hit you right in the heart and soul. BEAUTIFUL👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Not every day but still listening to them😍🥰😍🥰
THANK YOU SCOTTEE🌷🍀🌷
That quick low tone vibrato she was doing at the end of some of the verses was tripping me out. What a wild and fresh concept for even today 40 years later!
For me, 40 years ago, they were the local band, playing in Falkirk, I saw them one time very early 1982 and after that my friends and I avoided them like the plague. We were all 100% sure, that the Cocteau twins would never make it in the music biz. We got that wrong 😆
ScottishTeeVee In my own experience it’s quite the unexpected journey to hear and attach to bands that we at first didn’t quite understand fully. And vice versa!
I absolutely love her dancing. So hypnotic
She is there for vocals, nice try with the sarcasm though.
Like a bird singing…so primal. That must have what hook for me as a kid, that back register, throat singing, hitting different frequencies… Robin driving harmonics…
Thanks for watching and commenting Jeeves
IMMENSA LIZ....IMMENSI COCTEAU TWINS....SONO 40 ANNI CHE VIVO NELLA LORO MUSICA❤
Robins guitar just freakin moves me when he goes into that stretch
Musette and Drums still send shivers down my spine no matter how many times I've lsitened to it over the decades
most of their work does that to me.
Pure fucking genius - comes long like a shooting star once in a decade kissing the our world
If you came across any more Cocteau Twins footage, that would be such a blessing 😭
Anyone Who uploads hard to find Cocteau Twins performances is top notch in my book
Thanks Mark
Seconded.
The soundtrack to my dark, teenage candlelit goth nights.
Beautiful memories
One of the all time best band, absolutely beautiful and the guitaring, simple and perfect
I literally watch this every day at least 5 times
A wee bit of a fan then ?
@@ScottishTeeVee Yes 😊
I can see why, this is awesome
Same
Makes total sense
Exceptionally brilliant. Post Will Heggie and pre Simon Raymonde. Just the two of them and a drum machine. Marvellous. Incredible that they performed those songs live . Nearly 40 years later I still love them.
Glad you enjoyed it Andy
Just the two of them and a tape machine. It's right there next to robin.
@@NashSpaceRocket Their version of "Dear Mr Echo"...
I wonder how many "established" bassists tried desperately to get the gig.
✨🎶🌊🐬🎶💫✨One of the best songs from the '80's.✨🎶💫🌊🐬💫
Thank God for Elizabeth and Rob
It was nice to follow their musical development from Garlands to Milk and Kisses.
I wish I was there. This is simply sublime.
Liz looks like she went to the same hair salon as Diana Spencer. Margaret Thatcher always said pearls never fail on a woman. One cannot fault the music, 'tho. Always brilliant. 👏
Historical performance. I wish I could play it on Spotify as well.
All fear the Musette and Drums Drum Machine Solo! Look upon it and WEEP!
I could get lost in that sound forever.
Such an elegant display🥲
From the Flagstones / Musette and Drums
God almighty. This was when I fell in love with them.
Me too ! I've loved them ever since i saw them perform here on the Tube on that Friday evening in Jan. 84 Still a massive fan of CT & Robin Guthrie's solo career
everyone
The Pride of Grangemouth
when people gush over the 80's I don't think they had this in mind.. but aught to.
Another killer from scottshteevee
Mesmerising soundscape layered with an intoxicating vocal
Mosh pits on Cocteau Twins songs? Holy shit.
I'm usually mesmerized by Liz's voice on every one of their live performances, but that guitar sound on Mussette and Drums is just otherworldly. Goosebumps the entire song. What a beast of musicians they are.
Mesmerizing
I love coming back to watch this
I remember watching this when it was broadcast (can't remember if The Tube was live) but I had a couple of their albums and this was the first time I'd seen them perform.
Thanks for this. I watched it the night it was on The Tube 👍🏼
Just over 36 years ago, yet it does not seem so long ago
Truly lover of British underground music !! Nobody has better taste that them!!! Reason why they don't listen to reggaeton
Thanks for watching and commenting Alex🙂
An amazing group. Unique.,. certainly in Liz's vocals.
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Robin 🖤

Glad you found and enjoyed this Steve
simply fucking amazing
Thanks for watching and commenting Ian
Meraviglioso
Sweet !!!
watching this in 2020 i cany believe they had the confidence to take the stage at the barrowlands a few years later! I was there and i was embarrassed for them.
I used to see them in Falkirk early 80s, never thought they would get anywhere, I was quite wrong. Thanks for watching David
Wow..I remember seeing this on magic mushrooms..otherworldly ..Liz is a goddess
3:31 Musette And Drums
Weird as Simon had joined in Dec 83, maybe he was not ready for this appearance...
The date is 100% correct, maybe he was incapacitated at the bar.
Does anybody know what effects he is using to make the polyphonic octave sounds for "From the Flagstones"?
It's the Ibanez HD1000 Harmonics Delay. It can be seen sitting on top of his amp at 1:19.
@@ShawnBarnesbass What about the guitar? It's the Kawai KS-11-XL he used for Gardlands on the stand, but what's he playing?? Gordon Smith??
where is the time ? :-) :-)
nice, name of the last song? or it was only one song?
Musette and Drums
How did the taped drums know when to come in?
Taped drums are very smart. Strong too as one taped drum punched out Klitschko to win the IBF title.
Can someone list the name of the second song they performed
Musette and Drums
@@ScottishTeeVee thanks!
How the hell did Robin figure out what gear to use, and how to produce THIS sound? In 1984. H3000 I guess.
Do "you" know how hard it is to get an H3000 into your guitar rig and work correctly? People who know how to do this are "above". And you need three amps to do it right.
It's actually the Ibanez HD1000 Harmonics Delay. It can clearly be seen on top of his amp at 1:20.
Yes and I've done it. I use silverface bassmans as slaves and either Vox or Marshall for the main. I've had it going for 20 years plus and it's still not right. Ended using a direct box though. Now I've been thinking of incorporating an Ox.
What's the second song called?
Musette and Drums , the last track on the second album.
I pay no attention to "Cocteau Twins lyrics". I'm sure she's a great poet, but we're not supposed to know that.
Anyone notice budgie in the crowd 😂
sound is harsh, but i wouldn't trade that feedback from 1:32 to 1:47 for better audio.
Love CT but this one a bit of a swing and miss
I wonder if the singers on the spectrum.
You would never expect to see these boring looking people perform when you know their very first albums. As for Robin Guthrie: This should be the invention of shoegazing!
Except it’s not Shoegaze
Not good vocals
That funny thing she always does with her fingers!
Quick: name another song that uses the words armyard, aureole, and balustrade.
