Most people don't realize how very, "very rare" it is for Elizabeth Fraser to allow herself to be interviewed. She's always been so protective about her feelings and back when Jeff died, she heard the news while writing and recording with Massive Attack on Mezzanine. I've listened to her for almost 40 years, and I knew in my heart of hearts, "Teardrop" was for Jeff. When you listen to, "All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun" if you, don't hear the love between both of them -- then, there's a problem with you. This song was not meant to be released, but when it did, all Elizabeth could say was -- "But, it wasn't finished yet". I think she wanted that moment to remain, only, for herself. I completely understand. Nevertheless, it's one of the best songs I've ever heard -- she was so happy. Elizabeth has had, so much pain, in her life and I want her to be happy. She's still so beautiful, inside and outside: What a beautiful spirit.
You are a very kind person. That was a lovely tribute to her and Jeff. I'm only just discovering this now. Grateful you enjoy it too. Beautiful music moves people.
That last line was so right: “he just had something you wanted. It didn’t matter who you were.” I think that’s the perfect way to describe the weird kind of psychic yearning that Jeff Buckley fans feel toward his music and voice. It isn’t a greedy or untoward kind of wanting but a kind of spiritual desire, like his voice moves something in the soul that keeps you craving more. Yeah. I know it sounds weird.
I felt that way about some of Liz's music.. it's just so touching and it feels spiritual and it makes you feel like yes, this person understands what's in my heart. It's wild and rare when you find music that does that on such a deep level; its very intimate.

When I saw Portishead in NYC. Elizabeth was on the side stage admiring Beth Gibbons and the group. When the show was done I went to a 4 story night club that had Jazz band on the top floor and Elizabeth was sitting at a small table. I went over and politely asked if I could talk with her. At first she was quiet and reserved, after a few minutes of just regular conversation she told me about back home. That here in the states is amazing with how scenery and people change. I told her I was going to see Massive Attack later in the week, she smiled then told me she will be with the band.
You are very powerful, Elizabeth. I can honestly say i've lived a happier, more positive, relaxed life because of you and your band's music. I pray you live to see 200. God bless you.
Same here!! Both of their music is so inspiring to me... They did have one (unfinished) song together that was super beautiful, called "All Flowers in Time" but I wish they could've done more. And imagine if they had a kid! Imagine what kind of voice that child would have!

Really is a powerful reminder of how love is precious. Don't ever let doubt keep you from following your heart. Fear is the opposite of love, not hatred. Wish it would have worked out better for those two. Despite how things ended, I'm sure they wouldn't have traded the time they spent together for anything else. You can see the love in her pain. I'm sure Jeff loved her more than anything in the world. I understand her trepidation and though I don't know Jeff Buckley the person, if his art conveys one thing about him it's that he is genuine. I'm sure he loved her with all his heart.
Jeff's two great loves were Rebecca and Joan, although I don't doubt that Jeff loved Liz deeply. And surely if Jeff and Liz had had children, I can't imagine what new musical talent we would have had!
"Morning Theft" is apparently about Liz and in that song Jeff basically says he might be able to fix things between them if he stopped sleeping around. Jeff proposed to Joan Wasser shortly before his death, and he had been with her for three years which would have overlapped with his time with Liz (and others).
@@user-gf3wn1ne9n Jeff was definitely a lover not a fighter lol. I think he packed a lot of love into those few short years when his career and constant touring were at its peak. Rebecca, Elizabeth and Joan were his main girls though. Lucky ladies❤️
Love is it’s own thing. Just because you love doesn’t mean it’s for you. It certainly is precious. I have and will continue to let doubt keep me from following my heart. If hearts were meant to be followed, why do we have a mind? Fear is also its own thing, and it’s foolish to at the very least take a look see on why it is there. Heartbreak is a killer.
I try to be amazed by music but since I saw Jeff play in Wolverhampton nearly thirty years ago nothing can ever be as jaw droppingly, astonishingly beautiful. And I've always loved Elizabeth yet I never knew they were a thing.
Try Robbie basho the enigmatic super unknown solo artist, who had that thing that immense thing he sung for and played not for himself for something surpassing this reality, and he apparently was so convincing that people meeting him would rather doubt their reality than his. The man died at the hands of a chiropractor in an accident. Orphaned child, not a generally handsome man however, which adds to the mystery that shimmers through the pain he must have felt alone and misunderstood
I fell in love with Liz Fraser's voice as soon as I heard her for the first time 40 years ago in the Cocteau Twins and I think I loved her in a way. I've often mistakenly seen her as an angel through the eyes of a fan, but she's just a person like us. With all the dramas that anyone can experience. Seeing and hearing her talk and smile is so moving and comforting. I only superficially know about her pain, her suffering and her difficulty in dealing with loss and her own personal issues. And I respect that. But I see the sweetness and purity of her words and feelings. Just as she did in the band's songs. What I really want is for her to be happy.
After hearing their song I've become fascinated with their relationship, I was put onto jeff buckley by an ex girlfriend, ended up being the best part of the relationship. So interesting. 👍
I had to chuckle to myself- as Elizabeth was speaking about Jeff, it dawned on me to check his natal chart for sun conjunct Venus, which I suspected he had just going by what she said here…and low and behold, he does, in Scorpio of all signs. Having been around them before (Sun conjunct Venus, different sign), these types just exude a love you can’t help falling for. To be touched by one feels like you’re being kissed by the sun in the most delicious and warmly way. You fall in love but know the sun is for everybody, not just you. There’s no ‘penetrating’ the sun conjunct Venus person- you will get burned. And you can’t be angry about it because you’re caught up in the wonder of it and the gratitude you met such a beautiful radiant creature. It’s especially apropos Jeff’s lyrics in “Everybody Here Wants You”. A song about a person who is desired by many, but struggles to find true love…. It is common for Sun conjunct Venus persons to suffer a string of divorces. They burn so brightly, how can anyone come close?
beautiful soulmates :') swapping diaries only happens with someone you deeply trust and cherish, as a part of you, an extension of you. Liz and Jeff, a once in a lifetime LOVE!! 💜 thanks for this video!!
I think I read somewhere before about Jeff handing over his diary or poetry to women he'd just met though, I think as an attempt to hit on them? It was on a gossip website though and I have no idea how true it was, but it has cheapened the thought of him giving his diary to Liz for me.
@@arnold-hu4vk I wrote "diary or poetry" because I can't remember what the comment said exactly. I thought it was diary but I haven't been able to find the post again to check; it may have been a book of working lyrics or poetry. And the comment may have been rubbish. Either way, learning he was apparently a player and had a lot of lovers diminishes the impact of his lyrics. It's hard to believe he sincerely felt a woman he was singing about was so special to him when he would sing similar epithets about many other women.
@@user-gf3wn1ne9n True enough, and if what you say is true, then I totally agree. The only issue I had was mentioning the two things as you did implied they are equal, when they clearly aren't (going back to the original comment about trust etc..)
I know Elizabeth has expressed ambivalence and regret about her last couple of years in the Cocteau Twins but in reality the 'Milk & Kisses' sessions produced some of the most spiritually ecstatic songs they ever recorded. The album proper sounds somewhat disjointed in it's sequencing but the outtakes scattered on the 'Violaine' and 'Tishbite' singles (along with 'Touch Upon Touch' and 'Need-Fire' from the 'Judge Dredd' soundtrack) form the equivalent of an album's worth of material that is in many ways superior to the original release. In totality, I feel these last sessions might just be their best work. We know that Jeff was the inspiration behind 'Rilkean Heart' but 'Circling Girl', 'Smile', 'Tranquil Eye', 'Alice' and many others from this period most certainly share the same spark.
Ok so weird. 30 minutes before i stumbled across this video I was thinking that Jeff and Elizabeth would have really appreciated one another because of their similar ability to make incredible sounds with their voices. Then I see this video, wow. Sometimes it's just nice to that your instincts are spot on. Cheers
You must listen to their song together, “All Flowers in Time Bend Towards The Sun!” It’s unfinished so it’s unpolished, but still incredibly beautiful. Would’ve been amazing to hear a whole album by the two of them.
@@zoej1844 I just did. Wow I almost cried and I am not a Cryer. I honestly just discovered Elizabeth but have been a Buckley fan for years. Their styles and vocal control/range are so similar. In retrospect their Spirits were on a collision course with one another. Cheers

@@spinglasshydra I've been a fan of Cocteau Twins for maybe 20 years but came across an EP called 'Twinlights' for the first time recently. The first track on that stopped me in my follies for a while.
She (EF) is so candid about the relationship, what a lovely person. I admit that I like her rendition of the song (TMC) more than any other, even that of Buckley, sorry. But how good it is !!
I had a massive crush in my mid teen and was bold enough to try to chat her up when I was 14. She was quite niv e to a silly bessotted teenager with blue hair and shaking knees. She gave me about 20 minutes of her time which was like a benediction. What a kind and beautiful woman!
When I heard Frusciante's version of song to the siren, i thought the song couldn't be perfected anymore, not knowing there was a version 25 years prior that dropped me to my knees, 'Voice of an Angel ' - I was 5 when this was recorded 🖤😍

Jeff was most certainly one of God's emissaries on earth...really appreciate how raw Liz is being here. Who wouldn't fall in love with an "essence" like that? The man helped inform the queer soul I know I keep today, his "understanding" of sexuality is far more profound than what you usually here on the radio (then and especially now).
I know it will be weird to read but I was worried she might broke down during the interview, she looked so fragile, and terrified of the whole process. Her eyes were wide open and at the same time she seemed like she couldn't keep them open for any more than a few seconds so she had to close and open them nearly constantly.
I knew Jeff when we wrote songs, he was a very wild soul. One time he sat on our couch we had backstage and didn’t like it so he hid the cushions around the rooms 😂
.......when was this interview made.....seems it must have been before his death......just such beautifully simple words she speaks.....and yet completely shattering in their feeling.......
I've said many times I think Annie Lennox may have the best female voice on the planet, only because I think Liz's voice is not from this planet. It comes from somewhere else!
I really don't even understand why she agreed to this. My wife and I fell in love and married then. I suppose she felt it was important for people to understand this aspect of him. She's so generous.

We know that Jeff was the inspiration behind 'Rilkean Heart' but 'Circling Girl', 'Smile', 'Tranquil Eye', 'Alice' and many others from this period most certainly share the same spark.
Elizabeth (and her daughter) are definitely immortalized in Buckley’s haunting “Morning Theft”
Yes, the tracks on those singles are great! I always interpreted "Flock of Soul" as being about Jeff.
I agree that Milk & Kisses is perhaps their finest work. Certainly one of their finest.
Sirpentskirt takes me to another universe without fail
Cheers
@@zoej1844 There is a remastered version of "All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun".

@@hoderharris Elizabeth Fraser has a personal story that's simply amazing. I encourage you to explore her work, both in the Cocteau Twins and her solo work. You will cry, no matter how hard you try not too. That's the reason why she's been called, "The Voice of God".
@@spinglasshydra I've been a fan of Cocteau Twins for maybe 20 years but came across an EP called 'Twinlights' for the first time recently. The first track on that stopped me in my follies for a while.
Honesty from a personal perspective always shines through
All flowers in time turn towards the sun is one of my favorite songs. And i feel bad that it is
First time seeing this. Wow.
Thank you for uploading.
Priceless stuff right here.
💜
Call me crazy, but I believe they were twin flames....
I know it sounds glib but her life story would make an amazing film, Hollywood producers would be foaming at the mouth
Didn't realise I actually follow you on IG lol, I come back to watch this lovely video quite often.
Oh wow! Whats your IG @?
This is fabulous!
Please come back to us
Elizabeth
Elizabeth you best. hi from Belarus
She is so adorable.
Good to see Lizzy I miss her and the Twins music. Please come back together and make beautiful music for this ugly world!!🙏🙏🙏 We need you
I am related to both Jeff and Liz, and introduced them.
THe greatest female singer ever!!
Jeff is the best of all time
this almost made me cry
there where years of cocteau in my ears...walkman era....she is absolutely magical and unique, just like nina hagen and amy winehouse, bjerk and billie holiday...elizabeth is love4ever
No, he wasn’t. He was not this perfect human, trust me.
What a beautiful video
I know it will be weird to read but I was worried she might broke down during the interview, she looked so fragile, and terrified of the whole process. Her eyes were wide open and at the same time she seemed like she couldn't keep them open for any more than a few seconds so she had to close and open them nearly constantly.
Dang. That might be a moment I remember more than my wedding if that were me tbh
She is so lovely
Well I didn't want that to end...
Okay?!🫤
I knew Jeff when we wrote songs, he was a very wild soul. One time he sat on our couch we had backstage and didn’t like it so he hid the cushions around the rooms 😂
Same here.
i read she felt guilty about his death as she felt she wasnt there for him as a friend before he died. i wonder how she feels now
She needs to get over it. It had nothing to do with her. He had so many women, it was ridiculous. She is still, very naive. Wake up, Liz.
@@fowchiiiliedpuppiesdied??
.......when was this interview made.....seems it must have been before his death......just such beautifully simple words she speaks.....and yet completely shattering in their feeling.......
It was after he died. Made in 2002.
Nice to hear her voice again in the 'Tales from the trash stratum' song that came out recently.
wow, this is SO intimate, just.....wow
Meet him Dublin
❤❤❤ Pray for him
And thinking they not far
From here, you
I knew Jeff through his music.
The last goodbye was my breakup song. 😢
Theres millions of other uploads, and we meet here, you are all cool
I love Liz so much❤
Wowee Zowee this is rare 😲
Does anyone know where is the footage of Jeff singing in what seems to be a train?
I've said many times I think Annie Lennox may have the best female voice on the planet, only because I think Liz's voice is not from this planet. It comes from somewhere else!
so +1!

Is there any more footage from Lover in the background??
Elizabeth Fraser is also a legend ❤️
thank you ..
🖤🖤🖤🖤
I dream of a relationship like theirs
song @2:00?
Lover you should've come over
really liked Jeff Buckley! now I know WHY - he had the ultimate MUSE in Lx Frazier
I really don't even understand why she agreed to this. My wife and I fell in love and married then. I suppose she felt it was important for people to understand this aspect of him. She's so generous.
Well, I think it is a mistake. He was a womanizer. A bit disingenuous.
i knew they dated but hadn't seen this . wow
Oh I'm yelling hahaha this is so sweet
