I rode this when I was a child. The whole concept was that you were supposed to going through a gold mine. It was much better back then. It also fit in with the roller coaster that looked like a canyon. The Alpenhorn was also a great ride.
Bravo! You brought back such fond and terrifying memories of this ride when I rode it as a 6 year old kid. These memories were so deep and distorted in my psyche that parts of these forgotten memories had manifested into my dreams. What a trip. Even watching this on a video reminds me the ride truly does feel like some sort of strange dream.
Well I heard that it might be closing down to changing the theme of it because the theme right now is a really olddddd movie so they might change it princess and the frog theme

My grandchildren just returned from Disney World and said Splash Mountain was their favorite ride. The youngest is telling everyone they have two homes now. One here and one at Disney World resort. Lol

I believe they’re still gonna change it, just not in the time people want/expect. Disney doesn’t want another incredicoaster debacle where they just slap an IP over a ride. Especially one that’s as classic as this one. (Those animatronics will probably end up in a museum or worth a lot of money.) Anyway, Disney is gonna have to put a considerable amount of time & money into making sure that the P&TF ride is gonna be better than what we currently have because if they don’t, it’s going to look verrrrry bad on them and their highest source of revenue. Sorry that was long winded but it’s my take.
They had plenty of time to do the changes when the parks were closed for covid. They closed what before the government triggered the shutdown and their soft reopening period was longer than most of us expected. They had time to implement The Princess and the Frog changes.
@@cadence4527 ok, just because you might have time to do stuff doesn’t necessarily mean you should do those things. Part of it is about timing this correctly and allowing for a gradual switch to the new ride. Check out Offhand Disney’s latest video on this. Disney still has to worry about Tron, Epcot expansions, Avengers campus E-ticket, Anaheim expansion/refurb (downtown Disney, pirates of the Caribbean, Tarzan treehouse) And those are just what I can think of off the top of my head.
I'd say Disney's in a quandary about it. Don't change it and listen to a loud minority whine and moan about it. Do change it and alienate the large majority, who just want to go, enjoy the ride, and, maybe re- live memories, from when their parents took them there, on family vacations. Either way somebody's unhappy. Likely depends on which way will lose them the most $$$$. They are a business, after all.

It doesn’t upset me but it always feels like it distracts from the creativity of the movie. But like you said, Disney is going where the money is. As a Disney shareholder, I don’t care what they’re pushin so long as they continue to make money while churning out original content. Honestly, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers (2022) has given me some hope for them.
@@t3jf the ride is based on a movie with lots of racist themes. Though it's a staple ride for Disney, they may be changing it to be more in theme with their Disney Princess rides, but as of right now they've made no changes after announcing the makeover two years ago

Story has it that when the ride was being built and Michael Eisner saw it, he told them that it got people too wet and said, "This is Disneyland, not Knotts Berry Farm." They toned down the splash. I'm not sure about this but I also think the ride has a wetter and drier mode. They use the wetter mode on hot summer days and the drier mode at night and in the winter. I know Grisly River Rapids in California Adventure has this, not sure about Splash.

Yeah. I have never been to Disneyland but Disney World's Splash Mountain is 52.5ft and Disneyland's is 49ft. Also Disneyland's apparently used repurposed characters from a retired ride and the Disney World ones were new and many more of them
@@troyvo8069 DL’s version opened in 1989, 3 years before WDW’s version, so WDW’s benefitted from improvements because they learned what to do and not to do compared to the DL one. Also, WDW makes WAY more money.
Splash Mountain has a WAY bigger and steeper drop. There’s no bar because the physics of the ride are designed to keep you from coming out of the seat.

The Splash Mountain scent actually smells better than the bromine scent. It’s a mix of that and the mechanics and it makes a memorable smell!

That small drop where it’s pitch black be aware if you sit in the front. I sat in the front had a whole wave of water go over the top of me
My group had no idea about that drop and we were shocked by it and how much water it got in the boat

I remember this attraction but when you get to the top of the waterfall and you go down scream as loud as you can.

You don’t fall off or if you wanna feel safer I recommend grabbing on the bars or the seat in front of you that’s what I do
The drop is a 47 degree slope. It’s not that steep. Nobody would fall off. It’s more of a slide than a drop.
