I am English but have spent many happy times in Paris and was horror-struck when I saw Notre Dame Cathedral in flames on the TV news and the declaration of President Macron to restore it in five years and thought it was impossible to restore it in such a short time and doubted if the skills still existed to be able to restore it but men and women from France and from all parts of the world proved that they not only had the skills to do it but would do it in five years, this was a monumental achievement not only for France and Paris but for the whole world, and it's been re-built from the most noble of all human emotions, love. I had no skills to offer in the restoration, but I did donate half of my monthly army pension and some savings to help restore one of the world's great architectural treasures, and I look forward to seeing it for myself next year. The restoration of Notre Dame is nothing short of a monumental achievement, a testament to human resilience and dedication. The world watched in sorrow as the iconic cathedral was engulfed in flames, yet the spirit of unity and hope that followed was truly inspiring. This comeback is a celebration of our ability to preserve history and heritage. It reflects the unwavering commitment of skilled artisans, architects, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring this beloved landmark back to its former glory. Notre Dame's restoration is a beacon of hope, demonstrating that even in the face of adversity, we can come together to rebuild and restore what is precious to us. The renewed grandeur of Notre Dame is a symbol of the enduring strength of human spirit, and a tribute to the shared cultural legacy that binds us all. It stands as a proud reminder that we can rise from the ashes, more beautiful and united than before. Vive Notre Dame!
Monumental achievement? Seriously? Bro... It's so bad and minimalistic and just BASIC. They spend a billion on what!? Bare walls and a couple of chandelier, as well as a "modern" tub in the centre, which I don't know what it is, but it belongs in a modern bathroom, not in a church I don't understand it. With so much money, they only managed to paint a couple of blue skies on a couple of ceilings with some silver stars stuck on them. Come on! Compare that to the ceilings of like... Saint Peter's basilica. Look at the difference and you'll know what I mean.

It’s still a cultural symbol and a treasure of ancient artistry and ingenuity, I was not raised a Christian and don’t really believe in anything now, but I still recognize the importance of structures like these. If we lose them, we lose our connection with the past.
There is a French writer named Jean Giono, who wrote a short story of a man who spent his life largely in solitude, planting trees in a desolate place, and transforming it into an eden. While that story is about solitary self-sacrifice, and the restoration of Notre Dame is as this reportage shows, a large community effort, it still reminds me of a quote from the Giono story, that "...men could be as effectual as God in other realms than that of destruction." If you have time, read the story The Man Who Planted Trees, or google the brilliant 20 minute animated film made back in the 80s. It always restores my faith in our wonderfully flawed species.

Whatever religion you are, or whether you're an atheist, it's always painful to see such a magnificent piece of heritage burn. Seeing it rebuilt... wow. It shows humanity can still do some incredibly amazing things. If only we could do that all the time...
To be honest……this fire, while it was devastating actually showed in a way just how old Notre Dame truly became in terms of the architecture. I saw another video where this lady who with a crew was working on cleaning all of the paintings/mosaics, and she stated that not only were they cleaning off ash and soot from the fire but….they were cleaning off years, and years of dust and grime from since the cathedral was first built. She even showed before and after pictures of what some of the paintings looked like from right after the fire, to now and there is an immediate but remarkable difference. I think a lot of people who aren’t too fond of any historic buildings like the Notre Dame being renovated need to understand that while there’s historical significance especially when these buildings were created more than 100 years ago….due to the factor, some of them haven’t been renovated at all or maybe they have but very little was done which means that eventually these buildings would’ve become health and safety hazards. So in a way, the fire at Notre Dame was actually a blessing in disguise because now the cathedral has been getting a few years of well needed TLC. Hopefully once it does open back up, whatever safety renovations they did on it to prevent any more tragedies like this is….actually work, and it keeps the cathedral safe for another 100 years.
You seem to think that 100 years is a lot. ND Cathedral is 900 years old FYI. You should visit Europe. Plane tickets from the US are not that expensive.
old dust and soot is not more risky or a health hazard than new dirt and soot. We don't ask you to lick the walls. Most of Notre-Dame had already been renovated or restaured but many years ago. Usually it's done progressively so you never see the whole cathedral fully restaured at once.
Congratulations on the restoration & reopening of Notre Dame, it's beautiful once again. My heart is joyful for all of France, the Teams of craftspersons who labored & the Faithful throughout the world who supported with prayers. ❤❤
Even before the fire, the white walls, sculptures, glass windows were stained by smoke from years of candlelight. I hope they limit candle burning in the future.
Rebuilding the Notre Dame cathedral is very important for future generations because Europe culture has Christian roots. Thank you to all workers and donors who supported that magnificent cathedral God Bless You and Your Family’s ❤
This magnificent restoration is the result of a collective effort. When France is politically wobbly, a question comes to mind: why can’t we live together ? With General Georgelin another person led this work. Azzedine Hedna a scaffolding worker who unfortunately died of illness a few days ago.
Why can't we live together is indeed the question. According to a historian, we've never managed to agree on the way to be governed since the 16th century religious wars. Unlike our neighbours, we seem to be unable to let go of our political divisions for the greater good. That's why this collective effort is such a balm to all, whatever our persuasion or lack thereof. Thanks to all, at home and abroad, who helped to make this dream happen.
I think most people do not realize the colossal achievment that it is to rebuild this in such a short period of time.
I do!
It took almost 200 years to build it. Yes, it's a big job and difficult to comprehend.

@@sandweiler4640I think he knows. Let's not be condescending 😂
old dust and soot is not more risky or a health hazard than new dirt and soot.
So sad that General Georgelin didn't live to see it finished and hear the organ play.
The old lady is Back!! 😎😃😍
I've been there back in 1985. It was absolutely the most gorgeous church i had ever been in. It felt so immensely peaceful when i went there.
Even before the fire, the white walls, sculptures, glass windows were stained by smoke from years of candlelight.
I hope they limit candle burning in the future.

Waouh 😮!
Their still hopes in this world.
All my respect to all people contributing to that incredible achievment 🙏🙏
Forever Amazing
It’s refreshing to CBS getting back to real news!

Monumental work of labour and love. As Joan of Arc said often "Help yourself and God will help you"
