  • I sat down with my mentor and executive coach, Joe Hudson, to discuss two topics close to my heart - business and parenting.
We covered how to empower employees and children by fostering autonomy, the importance of trusting people's natural drive to do great work, and the value of allowing kids to define themselves without harsh discipline.
This conversation got very vulnerable, so buckle up! It includes occasional use of strong language.
Joe's signature program, the Art of Accomplishment Master Class, is currently accepting applications for the upcoming cohort. Check it out here: www.artofaccomplishment.com/c...

Before my son was born, a wise experienced parent told me, "Be prepared for a reservoir of love that you never even knew existed to open." The moment I saw him and heard his first cry, I discovered that reservoir, and it opened fully.
My favorite line: "The overwhelm is I have an emotional experience I don't want to feel, and the spiritual journey of raising kids is they point that out, in no uncertain terms, and then you get to feel it." -Joe
My main takeaway: Kids are connection machines who unconditionally offer their superpower: to reveal to their parents the doorways towards greater conscious-awareness via feeling emotions previously never felt. Kids can uniquely challenge and guide their parents to unlock inner wisdom yet to be discovered.
Being a father is one of my life's greatest blessings.
Thank you Joe and Tiago for this insightful and heartfelt conversation 🙏🏼❤

I've been musing about this for a few years under my working title of "Fundivided Attention," as I think there is something in how "we organize our desires to dignify and extend our experience of being", to paraphrase a bit from D. Graham Burnett.

Great video Tiago. Like you, I'll definitely be going back and watching this again. Very timely as we're going through the "four-nado" years as well with our youngest.

Thanks so much for this conversation! Tiago, I was wondering if you were able to process this parenting approach and how it rubs against your upbringing? How have you married the Listen book, Joe's approach, and your experience regarding absolute moral lessons?
I'm in the thick of raising two kids and the Listen book has helped immensely. I found Joe's comment about not teaching about right and wrong interesting. Would love to read about your reflections in a blog post! Thanks for all your work with BASB and your circle of influence.

You two often said the phrase, "Stay close and insist". Does that come from something specific? Is that something discussed in the Listen book?

Also thank you for this interview Tiago! It came to me at a perfect time as I have a 3.5-year-old and a 1.5-year-old who are both so emotional and I fear my wife and I have not been handling it in the best way. I'm excited to check out this book and evolve my parenting skills.
