Fun Facts time!
The Policeman is Edgar Kennedy, and his role is also named after him in this. It is amazing how detailed the show his face, usually the side actors are left rather obscure, but they show him in great detail for the first time in this - the next time he is seen in even higher quality is in "Duck Soup", with the Marx Brothers. He was indeed in a movie you have seen so far, and dont worry, he will be in quite a few more!
It's also curious how this is a storyline about someone else, not the two of them Laurel and Hardy, but rather, about someone else.
"WHATS/THATS THE IDEA!" is sort of a banger from Kennedy, he uses this with a superb roaring voice in Duck Soup, showing the wide variety of vocal and acting talent he has.
What you didnt know is that this movie is from a time frame where there was almost no rules on the movies, so you could technically show nudity and brutal violence. This movie glorifies, at least by way-back-when standards, thievery and criminal activity, and would not have been produced if it were filmed a mere few years later. A few years after this movie, a new code of conduct was put in place, making movies glorifying criminals, obsolete. Ever wonder why the bad guys are never shown as the winners in early movies, and even in most of todays movies? Yup, a regulation from way back in the 1930's started it all.
The scene with the cat was filmed with a *lower* frame rate per second, and then played back at *normal film frame rate*, so it appeared faster. This was to make it so that you could create a sense of hard impacts, or exhausting movements, or for example, drive a car relatively safely or run down some stairs relatively safely and slowly, but when sped up it will look like you are running or driving at a very high speed. One of the earliest movie tricks!
It's a very good movie for its nearly excessive use of classical slapstick elements, but the main grip I have with the movie, and that's just personal, everyone can have a different opinion of course, but:
The movie is rather a filler. It's rather a filling material than a real "full Laurel and Hardy" movie. The plot revolving around someone else as the protagonist, and the strange conclusion is too cliff-hanger like. Kennedy gets in trouble, and probably 10-30 years in jail for "him" robbing all the houses, and the two Laurel and Hardy make off without any intervention. It feels more like a prototype movie, and i consider it to be one of the weaker movies, especially in the light of all the top bangers you already watched.
But nevertheless, its a L&H movie, so we do have to love it!
Thankies for the facts whoop 🙌
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts Whoop Whoop, its always cool to see when you two really enjoy a movie, dad was laughing hard in this one as well!
Your Dad was so ripping himself apart laughing he didn't even have the breath to say "I'm Dead..."😂😂😂
90 - 100 years old and still hilarious! Laurel and Hardy were true comedy masters.
Definitely 😹😹
That "OoOoOoOoOoOoOhhhh!" yell by Ollie ALWAYS cracks me up LOL
hahah XD
This is the funniest one. Them trying to be quiet breaking into a house was always bound to go wrong. 😂
Lmao shhh ;D
My favorite part is Hardy looking right into the camera!!
I ALWAYS liked the fact that he did that. It makes you like your part of the scene and he's saying 'Did you see that! Do you believe what he just did' I don't know why more actors did not think to do that!
Yush! 😹😹
Edgar Kennedy the master of the slow burn. lol. great stuff.
You got that right! 😹🤩
The timing is genius these comedy greats had me laughing from start to finish with this one night owls my sides ache with laughing that much wow these two stan and ollie are just the best there has ever been awesome until the next one thanks you guys
Glad you enjoyed it with us 😹😹
I have just had a very long, very hard 12hr shift at Modor and I came home and went onto UA-cam and you two popped up! Yeyyyyyy!!! 30 minutes of complete silliness and fun!! I just LOVE watching you watching The Boys for the first time, I love how much you love their films.
It's great that you're able to watch the entire thing without editing it, so we can watch it together.
Night Owls isn't one of my favourites, but it's still funny.
Finn (Jimmy Finlayson) is one of my favourite foils.
I wonder how many times Ollie has been either been hit in the head by a brick, sprayed in the face with water or had his trousers ripped?
I highly, highly recommend "Going Bye Bye" . Also "Them Thar Hills" followed by "Tit for Tat". (The latter two are sort-of sequels). These are probably three of my faves.
Thankies so much! Glad you enjoyed 😹😹
My favourite scenes are the eye-poke at 8.22 and Stan and James Finlayson throwing shoes at each other, even though Stan is supposed to be a cat!
Whoop 🙌 awesome 😹
I enjoy watching L and H with you. Someone to laugh with, and i often see things that I miss when watching alone. Greetings from the USA
Thankies so much! 😻😹
I never have seen you two laughed so much 🤣, yes I forgot about Night Owls I last saw this short since I was a little kid it's been years
Haha Thankies 😹😹
Thanks for these reactions. I always give an extra laugh whenever laurel fights back at Hardy.
Thankies 💙😹
The great James Finlayson as the butler Meadows, and the inspiration for Homer Simpson’s “d’oh”.
Whoop 🙌 haha 😹
Props to Stan Laurel and the gag writers 👏 for coming up with consistently funny material
Definitely 😹😹
As far as I know there were no gag writers. Stan was the master mind from start to finish. Thanks for another great reaction video! Looking forward to the next one. So many gems to come. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! I, too, consider this one of their best work.
The eye pokes and ripped cloth never get old.
Cheers to the UK
Thanks again! Whoop 🙌
Can I suggest, if you have not seen or been suggested to already, 'Laurel and Hardy murder case', as I think you'll enjoy the scenes of their reactions to seeing 'ghosts' and other scary 'things'.

Thankies 🥰💙
Hey guys this is absolutely funny. With Laurel and Hardy lol 🤣🤣 loved your reactions 🤣🤣
Thankies 💙😹💙
If you ever decide to watch a silent film, the best imo is Big Business. It takes place outside in the daylight, which make it easy to see - there’s nothing worse than a murky looking silent - there isn’t too much dialogue to read, and best of all, it’s very funny - lots of action. Thank you greatly for all of the Stan & Ollie reactions. It’s alot of fun watching them with you.
Thankies 💙😹💙
Also Two Tars(1928)- they play sailors on leave and also Liberty(1929)both are very funny
Laughing along to L & H with you two is a lot of fun. This one is one of my more favorites, but not the only one. Of course you have to watch all their comedy shorts, but here are a few recommendations for starters:
Our Wife
County Hospital
Them Thar Hills
Tit for Tat -- (sequel to Them Thar Hills).
Thankies so much! 😹😹
"Kennedy'll fix it!" The first four L&H shorts released in 1930 were Night Owls, Blotto, Brats and Below Zero, all classics. (Perhaps save that last one for winter, as it features snow!) Future recommendation: The Chimp. L&H working in a circus, with James Finlayson as the ringmaster - what could possibly go wrong?
Haha awesome! Thankies 💙😹💙
This is a really good one. Your reactions are gold. Try Them Thar Hills and Tit for Tat ! xx
Thankies so much! 💙😹💙
Oh! Edward Kennedy -master of the slow burn. Made a few films himself. Shorts.
Whoop 🙌
Just off the top of my head, check out: Perfect Day, Our Wife, Come Clean, County Hospital, The Midnight Patrol, Sons Of The Desert, Way Out West, Block Heads, A Chump At Oxford, Saps At Sea. Their silent films are amazing, too
Thankies 💙😹💙
You should watch Laurel and Hardy’s Them Thar Hills. They end up drunk in a caravan. Hilarious! Very much recommended!
Thankies 🤩😹
Great choice, can't wait to see your reaction to this one it's hilarious 😂

The music that piano was playing? I know that melody. It was an old British song called "Down at the Old Bull and Bush"!
Awesome 🤩
That was awsome, try below zero next.
Awesome Thankies 😹💙
I didn't much care for this one when I first saw it - Stan's reaction to the cat aside, that's visual comedy at its finest. But it grew on me, and now I rate it among their best.
Definitely 😹😹
