These are the things I love to see! Real cabs restoring them to their original glory! 1ups are great for what they are but love to see more people “graduate” and move up the real deal!
Dude, thanks for taking us along on this Killer adventure with you. KI will always have a special place in my heart, as it was the first arcade game I ever put my 4 year old meat hooks on. I have to see if I could find, but I have this picture of my pops holding me up to the control panel to play. Will always be a dream of mine to one day own this cab.
Thanks bud, I appreciate you watching. Next week we get to the fun stuff. Taking off the control panel, sanding it down and prepping it for the new artwork 🤘🏻 Wish me luck!
Yeah, Szabo rocks it; he's my go-to when top quality is of the utmost importance. Thanks for watching! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
I just want to say I was trying to look up any info on WHEN 1up will be coming out with Killer Instinct and I stumbled on your channel.... Got to say, IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!! Love your channel my man, informative and entertaining. Looking forward to following your KI restoration journey!! Much respect to you and your family.... KEEP IT UP!!!
@@Evercade_Effect I just want people to realize I have no idea what I’m doing half the time, always learning and you got to have fun and laugh right? If so can do this, anyone can ✊🏻 Thanks again for watching bud!
I would suggest re-laminating the front after patching rather than painting. I used to paint, but once I did my first go with laminate, I never looked back. It will look SO much better and it's really easy. It covers all the little flaws and gives everything a clean, uniform look. It will look like a brand new cabinet. So happy to see you getting into restorations! Good luck!
I was working on it today actually, the control panel is next, it's taking longer than anticipated because I was waiting for artwork. I should have Part 2 out this coming week :-) Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment!
@@RetroRalph I cant even begin to tell you how many quarters I wasted in KI cabinets down the Jersey Shore in the arcades on the boardwalks. Simpler times for sure. lol
@@coopertroopa44 I hear you man, sometimes I just stare at my Arcades and think about how easy life was... LOL 😂. In all seriousness working on these old machines just brings back cool childhood memories so I know what you mean.
I've been told Armoural wipes work well to give a nice sheen to sideart I've never tired personally, but my buddy did on his MK and was happy with the results.
That kick harness can get a lot of use for other PCB's you could quickly throw in, if you decide to collect more. That is easily one of the cleanest KI cabs I've seen, most are either Frankenstein'ed to oblivion, or the cab is in terrible shape.
Fantastic project, im following this all the way. Hopefully you can get it finished before the 1up is released. It would be great to see a comparison video in the future
That marquee is sharp. I’m actually looking at buying a few toppers from Joe Szabo. The original side art doesn’t look too bad man. Just needs a good polish. Cool project!
I am on my second ki cab, 1st one i owned back in early 2000 and sold it. Glad to be an owner of another and got it before the pcbs skyrocketed. I will follow you closely to emulate your restoration process as my monitor has been replaced with an lcd and the cabinet itself needs some tlc. Killer instinct is my all time favorite game.
I think you should restore the side art, even if you don't do it right away. It'd be great if you can have it looking brand new. But I'm excited for you and I'm looking forward to every video you do of this restoration. Code Mystics just joined the main Arcade 1Up group last night and they should be joining my Killer Instinct group today. This is gonna be the year of KI!!
Righteous!!!! Can we all please agree that tornado terry is badass! I’m glad he (or she) got some recognition. Terry sent out my KI and MK1 controls, which are very nice, super fast and let me customize the packages as I wanted. (I wanted plain start buttons) I have no idea who tornado terry is but I appreciate the badassness. XLARCADE on eBay is also badass ... one of the only sources, i know of, for the metal layer of the midway control panels if needed. New subscriber of yours Ralph and feel like we just became best friends! (Karate in the garage)...Sorry for the long post. Glad I came across your channel ✌️
That PCB looks unbelievable, Ralph! I think someone mentioned a YT channel in the chat during the flyback solder party livestream that I think would be a good guide for what you're planning. Checking to see if "John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech" is on your radar. Good examples of the Bondo/cabinet restoration, CPO restoration, wiring, CRT chassis rehabs, etc. Jumping around his 20+ part MK2 complete restore to find what you're actively working on could be helpful. Looking forward to more progress videos!
Wow congrats on the working pcp. That thing must be waterproof and took a bath before szabos sent it to u cause it’s so clean. The monitor looks BRIGHT AND TIGHT 🤠🤠🤠
I don't have any intention on selling this one but I think a Killer Instinct in good condition would go for around $1000-$1700+. The board itself has really gone up in price over the last few years so it may be even more than that at this point. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
@@RetroRalph I worked at scandia back in the 90's(family fun center) and when we'd get these machines in brand new they'd come with receipts. I distinctly remember this machine bcuz it was the first of its kind to come with GREAT speakers built into the cabinet. This game could be heard over every other game in the arcade. This was my first job and I got quite good at KI, so good in fact i won a tournament for it at incredible universe (now fry's electronics). Was really cool seeing that someone is showing some love to a game that was a HUGE part of my childhood.
I'd love to do a Ninja Baseball Batman arcade skin for my Arcade 1Up, but the one he sells is for Alpha-Cade and I never did hear back from him. Not sure if my emails didn't make it or what. I'd also probably have to make modifications due to button/speaker layouts that would be tough (and scary).
Can you tell me the exact depth from the bottom (not counting the control panel) om about to buy one of these but have a 90 degree angle going down stairs. I have a door leading to a landing. The door way is 29 inches wide but I got 34 inches of depth heading in and I would need to twist it to go down the 90 degree to head down. Any siggestions?

I totally agree with you with that celebration 05:30 , that game is amazing!!
My killer instinct cab seemed to be one of the heaviest I owned. It was a beast to move and position.
Man I'm loving this project! The excitement is palpable!
The fact the mainboard comes with a CF is really awesome ! 👌
Looking forward to the next video's ! 🦾
Awesome vid man. I love that you are showing us the entire restoration process. That marquee looks killer!

Lovely! Also, one of the finest fighting games of its time! KI1 rules!
Nice. This looks like a big project that will keep you busy for awhile.
Sick project, good luck with the restore!😃
Looking good so far, can't wait to see the next part of the restoration. You and the family stay safe.
Great job Ralph. I love your content.
I’m so excited for you, but also jealous as hell that you have a KI cab.
Arcade 1up has one coming out. I have Killer Instinct Definitive Edition on my Xbox for now. It's nice having people to play against online.
That theme song is so great and the voice... Killer Instinct
That's is awesome man love seeing it being restored.
K.I. Baby.. congrats again .. it looks Great for an oldie..!!!!
Muck around with you Ralph, ultra excited about this, BIG KI fan, all the best from New Zealand!
