MPPT stands for maximum power point tracking. It effectively loads the solar panels so that the maximum power is transferred. How does it do this and what does the power and voltages look like when it is in action? How does it compare to a solar charge controller without MPPT? Generally, it can save you 10-45% depending on the conditions so it is pretty significant. Being electronic, it has no moving parts so reliability would naturally be high as well. This is as opposed to say, buying more solar panels to get higher wattage, or even a solar tracker that moves the panels mechanically. Getting an MPPT controller is a must even for small number of panels because the performance boost is well worth the extra cost.

You are right about motors failing, just look at the wind generator scrap yards.

Forgot to mention a cool tip: I haven't seen anyone mention this before but a cheap and non-flammable back board is less than $13 at Home Depot (Permabase Backer Board) and is made from cement. I used it for my charger, inverter board since it's large at 3 foot by 5 foot and just 1/4" thick. Easy to work with, not too heavy and peace of mind and wouldn't want a fire to burn anything down.

This is the second video of yours that I watched and from three years ago to today there's a huge improvement in your style, editing, everything about the video. Thank you for creating these! I noticed that you have a C25 (25 amps) circuit breaker for the solar panels. If doing the panels in series wouldn't the amps be much lower at under 10 amps making 25 way too high of a value for protection? Maybe it's about voltage and not the current... I just don't know. Either way I enjoy your videos!

Good video. I have found that PWM controllers are just as good for 12 v systems with short runs like 10 or 20 feet. When you try to do a 50 or 60 ft run you'll notice a big difference.

Thanks for your time. I have a evershine tl3000 inverter. Could you please advise, can I use it for purely off grid connection. Will it support 12v arrangements? I await your response. Many thanks

Would this only be useful for batteries? If you have a grid tie system, the the inverter usually has a MPPT function that is built into it when doing its DC to AC conversion such as Enphase's microinverters.

What is the minimum volts above battery voltage needed for the mppt to start changing?

i got enlighten 2 years ago and ive saved so much money. im thinking about getting a couple of small batteries so that i can go full off grid? do you think batteries are worth in?

In terms of ROI, getting batteries will make it ROI in 15-20 years. So no matter how you calculate things, you have to pay a premium to have self sustainable energy which is priceless.

BtB, my EcoFlow River Pro has a hard time with MPPT. It oscillates and then restarts when plugging in my two solar modules in full sun. I’ve learned to shade the modules and gradually expose them to the sun. Or I plug in fist thing in the morning.
The problem is that I cannot charge the battery using my car’s cigarette lighter adapter due to the constant oscillations and restarting.

For that product, it's 200W 10-25Vdc 12A max, check your solar panel to make sure it's not going over that. Maybe you have a 24V solar and that will most certainly cause this reset issue.

Why do you not have your own solar system with cheap growatt grid tie inverters and cheap optimizers on cheap panels? Insurance?

why solder after crimp? I thought whole point of the crimp was that you don't need ot solder.

Or it is also a good idea to have different groups of panels and tilt with its independent MPPT.
