good job on the review....I was considering the harbor Freight fortress but they have restocking fee if you want to return it. so I opted for the Lowes cobalt quiet tech 26 gal and to my surprise the unit was completely assembled wow that was awesome. I think the harbor freight unit has some assembly.
Might be different for compressors, but noise tests are typically measured at 7 meters ~22 feet in open air. The wall will reflect sound. Just got the baby Kobalt quiet tech and can't wait to put it to use.
Soladaddy, the baby quiet tech you got, is that the 2 gallon single stage electric one from Lowes? If so, how are you liking it? I was considering buying one.
@@martyt19able I really like it. The tank fills in about 50 seconds and it is a lot quieter than my old 3 gallon compressor. Makes filling E load tires a breeze. I might put up a short video about it.
thanks for the review. when the factory tests these things for noise it's in a relatively empty room. yours is right up next to two walls, which is going to reflect the sound and cause you to have a higher reading, same way that speakers sound louder when they're close to a wall. btw would have been nice to have some comparative runtimes for your air tools, given that the Kobalt has low cfm but higher tank pressure (just a suggestion). cheers
A. Nony Mous Good thoughts. I think the walls would reflect some but it would probably absorb more then it would reflect being bare wood rather then finished plaster or drywall. I think for runtimes it really comes down to what tools you are using and what kind of tools you wanna use. I use impact wrenches often and no issues.
Bought the Kobalt last year. It's decent but the regulator sucks, what you set is not what it puts out. I have a California Air Tools and a Makita and both have excellent and consistent regulators.
I’ll explain how these work I have one in my bedroom and I use it to airbrush if your garage is not insulated then it’s gonna be a little bit louder than normal that needs insulated garage to be at 70 DB my meter reads mine at 68 DB in my bedroom and I am in a apartment in my neighbors above me don’t hear it at all
You bout gonna run it..... I wanted to hear comparison

Stick a tube in the air filter it reduces noise.
I tested Harbor Freight Quiet compressor. 86 dB @ 3 feet. Box claims 78 dB...
What else are they lying about...
Have you tried to run an impact wrench or anything that typically needs about 5.0 CFM?

That pex tubing is a accident waiting to happen! I would use something different than pex, or pvc pipe. When they explode it’s not pretty!
PEX is fine we’ll within the operating pressure and no where near the burst pressure. PVC pipe would not be good that’s why I didn’t use it.
Does your tank stay at 150? Mine stops at 145 then drops and settles on 140. Is this normal?
Not sure, never watched it closely. All compressors will have a motor stop point say 150 and a start point, something like 140.
3M = ~10ft.
kobalt use the california air compressor and good quiet.
yamahaJDM Agreed to however a similar size California air would be significantly more expensive.
Evan Young yap got bigger tank
You forgot to mention -Kobalt is lube-free and HF McGraw is oil lube -which life's span way longer... say more reliable in terms will last longer
