- In this video we are picking up from where we left off last year when we demoed different types of bale shears to see if anything could beat our trusty splitter for our setup. We also fitting an LED Light above our workshop bench in the hope of improving visuals as we tackle further projects.
Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching

In reference to Adrian GAA comment with the drone. To non Irish viewers, GAA is our native sport games, and Adrain reference of GAA is about the high ball skill in both Hurling , but in Adrain case Gaelic Football.
Sad seeing the cows in early due to early onset of heavy rains this late Autumn. Grass is still growing, but ground is severely boggy.
Breaking a crow bar in a bog, never heard that one before. Love watching your channel.
Well now, there’s a thing for a Sunday morning 😉
The good lord moves in mysterious ways…. His bale shears do perform…
Just like to thank you for pointing me in the direction of the sheep shepherd, what legends that father and son are! Entertaining funny and informative.
Real strong family group all set in stunning countryside.
Thank you Adrian👍
The Keltec bale splitter with plastic holder is an absolutely mighty machine,
I am speaking from experience.
Great video Adrian. I started with Lord Muck, then George Saunders. After there visit to you recently, I now subscribe to you. I'm from Hampshire, (grew up on a farm), now in NZ.
Adrian if the farming doesn’t work out for you stand up comedy might, you had me in stitches 😂
You always know how to make life easier for yourself, spending that bit of extra time or money to make things easier always pays off in the long run. Having that light up will make some difference coming in to the winter months.
We bought one after this video. The reason we got this model is it takes the extra two teeth. They make a massive difference shaking out the silage. We had a issue when we got it with cutting through a bale. On a fusion bale no issues on a class bale hard cut. Checked the tractor pressure and it was at 2500psi going to the loader. Moved it up to 3000psi and not an isuse. We use old tractors 4270 and 4255 both 2001. I work off farm and when you come home in the evening and its raining its the best thing ever bought. Open all the shed doors and sit in out of the rain. Well worth it. Hold a little silage but you get good at using it.
Please keep the great videos coming friend from Scotland 😊
Ha ha. Dat hemeroid paint is some stuff😂😂😂😂👍😂
That is quite the piece of equipment. Those hooks that slide out look fierce.
That light over the work bench should make a big difference. Love seeing you create handy things.
Great video . 😊👍👍
Great Demo and fantastic video Adrian I might I have to get myself one of those!
Good video Adrian. We use the back actor on the JCB to push in the silage in the narrow feed passage. Might be something to try when you have the 50B up and running.
Hi Adrian, we have that cashel bale shears over two years and seems to be bullet proof, we did add the two extra outer tines soon after we got it as it, makes it easier to push silage left and right. It's like using an implement that is too narrow for your tractor without them.
Hi Adrian, Im not sure if it could work but if you could mount your mchale bale spliter to the front loader it would suit your job better, and have a double bale carrier on the back for drawing home. Bale spliter works really well in your feed passage and saves all the pushing and pulling with the front loader to break up the bale.
Really enjoy wathching your channel. thanks
I have a half wore out tanco bale shear and to tell the truth I reckon it took about two or three hundred bales to get reasonably good at it and now that I have done thousands and thousands of bales I can say I am not too bad at it, so expecting to be good with it after 10 or 12 bales is a bit hopeful but then again I am a cow man and machinery is only a unfortunate necessity to me.
Nice work in the LED fitting
"I don't think any of them is in the market for one, but I'm going to have to go in and make sure" 🤣Make sure they get the farm demo discount!!
You need to fit a battery chainsaw to that drone Adrian 😂
I can open a bale and get the wrap and net away wit a normal shear grab. Easy to do when u get used to doin it. Keep up the good work, great videos
I was thinking of trying that myself, glad to hear that works
I spotted your deliberate mistake when you were fitting the brackets for the striplight on the left one you put it upside-down, but you corrected it nicely done. 🤣🤣🤣
Looks like a good job, Id say she'd work savage well on bales made with the new McHale Fusions that use plastic instead of net.
You should make up 2 hydraulic adaptors, one male to male and one female to female. Saves changing the connectors on hoses which will eventually leak if you change too much. The ultimate connector is to have the same Faster connect that I have fitted. Makes life a lot easier.
Comment for the algorithm to help the channel 👍.
Thanks for the show Adrian 🍻 🇦🇺
How please must you be Adrian with success of how well the workshop has turned out. Doesn’t get much of a mention these days but almost always features in your videos. Such a great space and well organised for day to day jobs to maintain the farm and a wee sanctuary for tinkering. Slainte 🥃
Nice bit of kit there, the galvanised hydraulic rams look well
When putting in bales into the tight passage. If u could cut half try push it sideways by catching 1 end with the grab and driving forward. Then once u have it sideways then push it forwards into the back wall. Then do the same with the other side should help reduce the amount of manual labour in piking it in
Hi Adrian 1 tip I learned from having one of these don’t put the prong through the plastic, keep prongs outside the plastic for splitting, as well the barrel wrap although more expensive is the only job for these machines saves having to separate the net, the nugent I have about 1 wheelbarrow of silage over the whole winter is all i have in the plastic pile, hope she’s lucky for you, try the nugent just to compare
Good to see Bailey and Hudson out checking you’re doing everything right ! Decent set of rams and metal thickness, made very well , just a thought Adrian, how about tilting grab back to cab first then slice bale, would all the net then be grabbed by the hooks . Great colour, did think you liked green ! 😜
Not sure about that sheer Adrian, we will wait and see how you end up with it after a few days but its great to see a machine being used straight out of the box with a new owner gives you a much better idea where you would be, your right about using it with the cattle in the shed if you were rushing and thinking about another job when you were working her you could see an accident looming, great video as usual Adrian keep them coming, how's your Dad keeping good luck to you all
I used it a good few times since, no net left behind now. Just needed to press down on the bale more so the hooks could grab all. Ya do get used to them very quickly in fairness
Cracking video as always. Keep up the good work Adrian
Don't know anything about farm machinery myself but that cow over the fence looked like she was keen on learning! Started writing this before you mentioned 😂😂😂
Good news on the drone, maybe you should cut the tops off those trees 🤔😉
Amazing how they ignore the noise and snapping jaws when they're getting fed 😀
hemorrhoid paint!🤣🤣🤣
The shear grab can really chew up the bales for you. Loved seeing the cows go for that hay. Always love watching you make stuff. So simple to make a couple brackets but I never could do it.
Great work with it
Well Adrian , just get the mc hale RS 4 !! It will suite your tight shead 👍🏻👍🏻
That’s a jolly Cashel. Nice paint green and red. Mind you don’t scratch it 🤣🤣🤣
Neat trick with the little bucket underneath the drill, keep the workbench clean
Nice one Adrian
Great video Adrian that’s a nice piece of kit 👌
Great video Adrian. The Cashel looks a lot lighter than the previous two you tested last year.
Great video Adrian. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
Nice video that bale shear handy
The way I use it I put the tines under the bale and split on top essentially and doing it that way I’ve never had any issue with feeding like that and especially if you can push the bale against something
Great video Adrian looks well 👍
We have one nearly d very same as d shearman for d last 6 years feed on a average of 1000 bales a year on same idea as that d best job I find is to push d bale again d wall to grab it , I don’t like d way d plastic clips don’t engage as soon as u start closing on our one it does it’s a great job holds everything very well
Hello Adrian. I have a cashels bale splitter but it has 7 prongs. And I’m able to feed out the silage perfectly like it was fed with a diet feeder both sides In an 11 foot passage. A neighbor has a different model and the gripper isn’t able to grip the plastic on a frosty morning. I could send you a video of it working in the 11 foot passage if you want? You’ve a great channel 👍
You should use your dump trailer to bring bales back
Really enjoyed that! Great work 👍🏼
What you need is on of those rear mounted bale feeders, that turn the bale and throw it out either side, take plastic off the day before... I dunno how you put up with forking so much silage.
In fairness with his bale splitter it does a good job in that awkward shed
@kieranosullivan02 it does to be fair.
Another great video Adrian it looks like a good bit of kit 👍👍👍
Great video as always Adrian 👍
The splitter you have is the only job for those narrow passage ways,
What about a McHale rs4? On the loader and holds the plastic. Would work well in your feed passages
Nice that your getting to trial farm equipment, suppliers must trust how you look after their kit and the feedback you give. In my workshop I have an LED light that I bought from IKEA, really cheap but does the job sometimes you just need that little bit of extra light. Your cows are looking grand, all seamed to be wanting to eat which is a good thing. 👍
Thank you for sharing Adrian 👍❤ Happy Halloween 🎃👻🧹🕸️🕷️❤
I think you should take a look at the hustler bale unroller. They can unload from both sides, and I believe they'll even unload clamp silage.
You should try splitting the bale closer to the feed bar then before you open to let off the second half hit the outside corner of the bale and it should spin in for you
I have the tanco splitter on a similar size massey in a 12 foot passage and it works a treat
Good stuff
Great work and nice light light brackets but..... youll need to put a board on to to store things cause you know it will probably happen.. 😮😊.. shear looks good but i can see why you like the rear slicer as it cuts the bales in the right directions for your passes... . Ih my drone came straight down from 250FT ... boom.. wireless signal from the house played the funny card with it... now another phantom home.. but might be the last.. stay safe sir 🏴
Always a learning curve with a new piece of kit. That jaw looks wicked sharp
Nice brackets for the light. My neighbour mounted a light like that at hi bench, but just flush on the wall. It was always blinging when working as it was right in your face.
I use a tanco bale slice on bales that have film instead of net wrap , I can cut bales and only hold on to a tiny bit is silage and if I get it right none at all , the most annoying thing is the tails of white wrap nearly always get cut leaving some wrap in the feed which you have to get off and pick out , apart from that I wouldn’t be without it loading bales into a king feeder as I do every day
Great video Adrian, can’t wait to hear about your use with the Cashel Bale Shear Grab, I thought this would be best in the market with the design of the hooks. Great videos as always!
Hello Adrian, winter here, long night now , that's the way time goes, great video, chat soon kieran from Laghey donegal town, Happy Halloween 🎃
It is probably is more suitable for barrel wrap, netting always causes problems!
Cavan football 😅😅😅😢😢😢 Don’t think you’ll ever change your bale splitter for that shed. Great job
I bought the keltec great machine
I could have swore that you said "hemorrhoid paint" Adrian!
You need to get a DJI Mini 4 Pro Adrian it has the 360 degree collision sensors. 20km range too but idk if I would want to do that in Ireland! I'm sticking with my Mavic Air in the meantime but it's on the watchlist for sure!
That hemorrhoid paint is good stuff 🖌️👨🎨
waste o diesel them, cut the end out of the bale spike half way with pallet toes go to shed cut wrap underneath while out gather wrap half the bale falls move back set the other half down
Poor form by Clarkes letting a brand new machine out on demo and not having everything 100% right on it. I know it's only a couple of loose pipes but anyone buying a brand new machine should be receiving it 100% right and ready.
I find with them flatter wet bales Adrian if you roll them slightly with the bale splitter just before you pick up the bale your able to get more of it in the grab, catching more plastic and splitting the bale more even.
As for the net, sometimes I think you can be just unlucky as to where you catch and cut the net. I think sometimes you can just leave a bit of net as that where it happens to unroll.
Another great video by the way.
Oh Adrian Classic drone School boy error.!!
Good to see you used haemorrhoid paint for the light support. I bet you have piles of the stuff!😂
Adrian, you are definitely a farmer out standing in your field!👍
Hello!
Great video 😉
I’m Fred, french farmer and I’m very interesting to have your help for choosing the right bale slicer!
Between Tanco, Keltec, Cashels, according to you, wich is the more efficient?
Thanks for your Little help 😊
Fred
Almost 94k subscribers! Nice new machine that you have on demo. How far away is your other farm.
Well
Did you say you were using hemorrhoid paint? If you did oh boy you have to explain that one!😂 To the best of my knowledge we don't have hemorrhoid paint across the pond! Lmao
That bale mover thingy 😂 very interesting. It's only a good deal if you really need it and will always use it.
Try opening the bale out of the shed away from the cows then take in the pieces and put them where you want. Also if you get it it will be great to see your changes. Also it looks like it's the wrong color to match the tractor.
You can't beat the Marksman
Was wincing there how close those prongs got to the cows !! but they were more interested in the contents!!
Dogs want to play with daddy’s new toy.😂😂
18:40 great interesting content
Brilliant video adrian the hydraulics in that massey seem be be very good did you do abything to make them quicker and can u tell me the model of that massey
Could you do a video on your work shop😊
Good piece of equipment are u going to demo the shearman bale shear?
You should demo the new pro_dig sheer grab with plastic cather
Seems like a great well built machine Adrian. Would it also work on the pit as a shear grab or is it specific for bales? Great video as always. 👍
One question, what is the reason why you make a white cross on the fodder silo balls?
Thank you for everything you show us in your videos. All the best
To try and scare the crows to stop them picking holes in the wrap
Great video (definitely not first)
I had a keltec bale splitter I thought it was way to big even tho it was on a 200hp deutz I traded it in for the cashels one it was the best thing I ever did 100 times more compact on the tractor way better for working around cattle in the sheds
Clean the paint off the edge of the blade makes a big difference to it cutting the bale
I'd say it's just cause your bales are so wet and there sinking down to the ground when you're picking them up and the grabbers can't get the right hold of the net
you had the left light bracket on top of the wall bracket not on the bottom next shot it was correct and on the bottom lol
Haemorrhoid paint! Hahaha!
Thought you were going to feed your pit silage first this year Adrian
No I mention in the video where we were setting up the sheds for cattle to come in that we would use some bales first as there fairly wet, our younger cattle would never eat all them anyhow plus i’d be worried how long they would keep. Opening the pit next week
Another great video Adrian, what type of drone do you use ? and would you recommend it to a novice ?
Just a tip if you close the clamp down and pull out it will drag the netting
Them round lights u have in the roof are called high bay lights u need a big high shed for um to work properly the dont work well in a low shed
Now Adrain I’ve a bone to pick with you. Correct me if I’m wrong but the first light bracket you put up by any chance did you screw it on upside down and change it off camera ya wee rascal 🙈😉😂.
I did, but not just the one! Both of them were upside down 😀.
I seen that as well 😂
What brand of drone have u Adrian.? I'm gonna buy one for counting sheep
