I mean, he was an actual Korean independence activist(although much less prominent than what he claimed to be), a young leader full of dreams about his homeland. So there’s at least some legitimacy and at least some part of his life that we can acknowledge. His son and grandson however had their starting points right where Il-Sung left, a violent fat pig with a raspy voice.

It's because of the film scanning used. Even some studios in Japan used rather antiquated film scanning systems well into the late 90s.
If we somehow got hold of the original film tapes and sent them to Kineko Video, we'd get 4K quality.

    • @halfbakedproductions7887

There is even footage from 2012 of Kim Jong Un that looks and sounds like this. Apparently he disapproved of the visual style which is why everything on TV seemed to modernise very suddenly.
Even when Kim Jong Il died the North Korean TV "news" was just a narrator shouting over still photographs. Nowadays it's almost as slick as anything you'd see in the West, roving reporters, live broadcasts, updated graphics etc.

Kim Il-sung: You comrades pursue agriculture, consumer industries, and export according to the Party’s decision, but you should also work on the stable production of chemical fertilizer. Try to run Namwon Chemical and Hungnan Fertilizer Complex to full capacity.
Increase the production to 50,000 tons this year and to full capacity next year.
The cement production needs to be stabilized. Increase cement production to 12,000 tons. We also need to increase mass shipbuilding, to the capacity of a hundred ships at a time along with the increase in electric power output railway construction, and metal production.
These tasks must be accomplished. With the increase in electricity and metal, we can certainly improve our standard of living in our country.
When I spoke with Carter (former US president) last time in the summit meeting, he said that the UN would sanction us, and I said go ahead. So far we've been sanctioned, we have never been free of sanction. All countries sanctioned us, you and Japan, all do. We have always been under sanctions.
Even under all those sanctions, we've made growth so far, so I'm not afraid. Then he said that he didn't want to sanction, I said, OK, if you want to lift, then lift. If you want to impose, then impose. I don't care. We'll improve our economy even further, no matter what.

I may not be a Communist or a Juche kind of guy, but, North Korea was better off than South Korea when he was in charge, though he may not be the most trusted and friendly person out there. But his son made the country worse than anywhere else in Asia at the time.

    • @TimeMakerDotPH
      @TimeMakerDotPH 2 роки тому +28

The North was better than the South not because of him but because of the Japanese. When Japan controlled Korea, they industrialised the northern region that's why when the handover began from Japan colony to US-USSR occupation to SK-NK independent governments, the North is richer than the South. But the South had the right economic policy, right leaders, right ideology, strict implementation, and collaboration between Chaebols and the state when it comes to cheap labor, FDI, tax cuts, technical aid, and promoting Korean products worldwide. Thus the South got better electricity, heavy, petrochemical, and electronic industries, making it more prosperous than the North.
Also it's not just the Japanese that made North Korea look cool, it's also the Soviet aid. When the USSR collapse so is the aid and the North Korean famines started.
He literally DO NOTHING to make his country great, it's all done by the Japanese and Russians, then what he did is fvcq up his once so-called "great country" with his wrong set of principles (continued by his son and grandson).
No wonder why South Koreans only wanted to oust the military dictatorship and democratise NOT reunify with the North in the 80s.

@@TimeMakerDotPHbro, you forgot the fact that North Korea was pulverized to the ground after the Korean War so they have to restart from scratch in rebuiding back their country after the destruction. Fortunately, the North recovered faster than the South that during the 70s, the North was more prosperous than the South. If you say the Soviet helped them recover economically, you could say the same to the South with the US but the North recovered faster. It was only until the 90s when the South started to boom economically while the North suddenly beared the pain when the USSR collapsed leaving the North further isolated from international trade.
You can watch this to learn more how the North rebuilt itself after the war in the peninsula

@@TimeMakerDotPH Exactly and the north was only ever marginally richer than the south in terms of GDP. If we just go by GDP measurements modern South Korea is wealthier by an exponential magnitude versus the short lived higher GDP the North had until the 1970s. That being said the former familal regime and millitary dictatorship in the south was very awful. Modern South Korea could benefit from a more social democratic system while the North hopefully liberalizes within reason. The tightly planned economy of North Korea should've been dropped after the damages of the korean war were mended by planned allocation of their resources.

North Korea's economy was superior to that of South Korea when Kim Il Sung was present 1953-1994.
Following his death, American imperialists imposed multiple economic sanctions against the north, which led to famine.
It was the Americans who managed to create this famine by economically sanctioning the country, so that the dear General Kim Jong il failed to succeed and created a revolt of the people.
But it was a failure, thanks to the revolutionary ideas of juche.
North Korea would be extremely rich if it did not have the economic sanctions that the USA created to suffocate the country and turn it into a South Korea.

South Korea began to get rich after the 1988 Olympics.
The great leader Kim Il Sung was even willing to organize the Olympic Games so that the venues were in both Koreas.
      South Korea obviously refuses.
and to have a famine, you have to create it.
North Korea began imposing sanctions since 1953, because the UN and the United States do not want to accept that the country's revolutionary ideas work.
The United States is very angry that North Korea is surviving on its own, without depending on anyone's help.
This is why in my private life, I always activate ideas from the perch to get out of it.
