Absolutely beautiful job, sir. I’m an industrial electrician, have swapped out plenty of motors but couldn’t dream of actually rebuilding one as you have done. Much respect to you!
In Aus in the 70s part of my electical mechanics apprenticeship was 2 years of electrical fitting, at trade school. Sadly not taught any more. Lucky me i got an awesome trade education!
I have rebuilt some really intricate things in my day. My son has watched me do this, and every chance he gets, he always watches intently, and asks the right questions. I also have the habit of treating those times as a classroom, and explain what I am doing and why. The only issue I have with these rebuild videos is that there is not a good verbal tutorial along with it. The best I’ve seen is the channel, Primitive Technology. Watching is one thing. Turning in the Closed Captions and you’ll get the narration and the logic as to WHY!!!
Was that green liquid caution or sulfuric acid? And, I wondered about the material he uses as insulation and the grid and type of the sand paper. Seems to me like maybe he bent the wires clock wise a 45° angle. Hum? Or was it conter clockwise?
My uncle had a motor repair business. He would have hired you for sure. Repairing motors well, is not as easy as it you made it look. Anybody can find the instructions on how to do it, but very few have the skill that is required.
As a US Navy trained Motor Rewinder I have rewound many types of Motors, Generators and Armatures. I never have rewound a buss barred armature in that time, though. Wondered how you could do that! As far as the slot paper you used, was that Nomex or …? Nice job, looks good!
Looks like he has done this once or twice before. It always amazes me how "easy" somebody can make something look when they are incredibly skilled at their craft. The only thing I would have liked to have seen was a before and after test of the starter. If I attempted this I would have ended up breaking at least 1/3 of those copper bars and tossing it all in the recycle pile! lol.
I say the saying "let dead dogs lye" is more like it. Maybe even "stop whipping a dead horse"? How about "stop wasting your life"? Maybe, yeah, "I got better things to do".

My hats off as it is a tough dirty job but and art that is needed to keep good electrical motors running today! Very nice video but I would never attempt! Lol
Typically, it’s merely worn out brushes on a worn out commutator making for poor current flow. A motor has to be really shot to necessitate new windings. We see this most often with small DC motors, like power window motors. The rotor/stator armature assemblies will be fine, but the brushes and commutator surface is worn out. Similar with altenators. Hardly ever see burnt windings, but we commonly see bad diode rectifiers or bad regulators. Back in the day you could buy replacement components.
Like, for instance, if the first step of heating and quenching (in water?) was just to loosen things via thermal expansion and contraction, or if the paper insulation needed to be burned up and soaked off. Would like to know about that stuff. Adding informative subtitles is quite easy. I'd be willing to format that info into an SRT file. UA-cam allows video creators to simply upload SRT subtitle files quite easily.

I have a question concerning the formed coil insulation. Would each of the formed copper coils need to be re-insukated after you burnt and sanded off the original insulating varnish?
