    I’ve had the FTM 100DR for number of years and could not figure out WiresX. Eventually, I put it back in the box and it’s sitting in my storage room. I just found your video and it explains in easy peasy terms how to set up the radio. I even watched John Kruk’s dragged out boring video and was totally turned off from WiresX as being a total geek show. Thank you for this video that explains and enlightened my mind how to now enjoy the FTM 100DR. I’ll be pulling out the radio once more and put it through its paces. Thanks.

    As an FYI for anyone just learning about this.
    There's a SCU-58 cable kit for Windows 11. It includes a new USB cable and an audio cable. You'll need the audio cable if you want to do digital or analog rather than just digital. I picked one up at HRO yesterday for $39 bucks. They were close to 90 bucks before Win 11 broke their SCU-20 cable. 🙂

    Thanks for the video! Yeasu has made some minor changes since the video was made but this still really helpful. Yaesu has taken some of the download files off the main page and only shares the links after you are registered with WIRES-X.
    Also, the driver for the SCU-20 that Yaesu currently provides isn't compatible with Windows 11 so some may experience this issue. There's many UA-cam videos that cover the driver work-around.

    Your explanation is very clear. I subscribed, in case you are going to do any more related videos. This is all very new to me. I've had a General Class license since 1961 but have been inactive for almost 40 years though I kept renewing the license. Coming back to it, it's like I'm a time traveler from the distant past to a future that has a lot in common with Star Trek. If you ever get and install an HRI-200 I'd be very interested in your video about that, since it has a bit more capability from what little I understand so far.

    Sorry to bug you again. I bought the FT2-DR and planned to use it to communicate to my FTM-100DR into the Wires-X system around my home. The way I understand the diagram on the Wires-X page is you would have to buy a SCU-40 cable kit that can with the cable to connect to the computer and some extra cables that connect the audio to the computer someway. I understand at this point i would need an antenna hooked up to the FTM-100DR.
    Have you tried this yet. I was thinking of making my 100 the base station and leaving it there and using my HT around the house and farm to communicate on.

    Hey Ghostrider, I have connected my FT2DR to WIRES-X rooms but I hear no audio. I have done this via PDN and Portable HRI modes, both direct and access point. The John Kruk and Hoshnasi videos don't go into detail on Windows settings for audio. It seemed like you were hearing audio thru your radio's speaker. How did you set the Windows audio settings to achieve this?
    P.S. I am far more familiar with Mac, but the WIRES-X software only runs on Windows.

    • @GhostRider1974
      @GhostRider1974  5 років тому +2

      Shawn McNelis ...Howdy! I don’t recall setting any windows sound settings. The audio automatically routed through the radio. Make sure the audio and playback devices are set to the same Com/USB device. 73

      It also depends on which Windows system you are running! Windows 10 is a freaking pain, getting it set up. And once you do, any random mandatory updates, can upset all those settings, and screw up you sound settings for connecting to a radio!

    Near the beginning of the video, you said we do not need the HRI-200, and then later, you showed downloading the HRI-200 software.
    Did I get that correct, that I won't need the HRI-200, but I do need the software for it?

    • @GhostRider1974
      @GhostRider1974  4 роки тому +1

      I am able to connect to both analog and digital rooms by booting the radio up in Wires-X mode. See my video on the "Wires-X Hack". Now, I have to still use the DN mode for my audio doing this. To get in using analog modulation, additional cables are required. I don't have those, but they should be similar to what Josh shows on his "Ham Radio Crash Course" channel in a video where he demonstrated connecting an FT2D handheld using the additional cables.

    At 12:57 you connect to the DARC room which I can listen to off a repeater 20 miles north of me in Madison MN. I have my ID and firmware updated. We have the snowstorm of the century coming in tomorrow and is supposed to last until Friday afternoon. It's supposed to dump 24" of snow on us. I need to be in Huron SD to take my General exam Saturday morning. I guess I will get this Yaesu FTM-100DR hooked up while I am stranded at home in this blizzard.
    Question, in the direct mode do you have to have an antenna or a dummy load hooked up?

      Eric Child ...Good evening. I’m pretty fresh into digital as well, but my understanding of a node station is a radio connected to the Wires-X network via a computer/ internet link. So if you join in PDN mode with your radio, you are a node station. A repeater linked to Wires-X also shows up as a node station, typically with a -R after the call sign. 73

    • @GhostRider1974

      No, using the certain Yaesu radios configured for PDN mode (portable digital node), no HRI-200 is required. However, you will have to always use DN mode (not analog FM in). The rigs that have this feature, to my knowledge, are the FTM-100, FTM-300, FTM-400, FT-2D, FT-3D, FT-5D.

      All radios accessing the Wires-X system are assigned both a node number and room number, unique to your radio’s digital ID, regardless whether you have an HRI-200 or not. If you have 3 radios you want to use on the Wires-X system, you will need to apply for a separate node number for each (and you will have to use a different username each time you apply - write all those down). Check out my Wires-X Hack video...you can get into the digital/analog rooms using that, not only the digital only rooms. Hope this helps.

    • @GhostRider1974

      Good evening! There should be GPS settings in the radio / manual. You have to assure the GPS is turned on, then allow it to acquire all the satellites. This takes longer inside the house without a clear view to the sky. If you also mean to run APRS, you have to put the frequency on 144.390, assure the APRS modem is turned on in the settings, enter in your APRS callsign, and assure the data speed is at 1200 baud.

      Andrew Macrides ...have you installed the USB drivers for the cable? If the radio is booted up in the correct mode, the Wires-X software should recognize the radio when the program is launched.

      Some Yaesu radios are Bluetooth capable or can have the Bluetooth module added. This allows you to use a Bluetooth headset or similar with the radio for PTT during voice calls. If you are referring to the radio making it somehow allowing cellular calling by somehow tying in with a cell phone, I am not aware that this function exists.

      @@GhostRider1974 thanks for the reply I would like to know if due to the fact that the mobile bluetooth is connected it also gives you the possibility to do it wirelessly and for phone use it would be a great advantage if this particular wireless and any wireless could do it imagine that with a wireless we would have in our car on mobile we could give the problem of open listening to our phone So I wondered if he can do it or not as he has Thank you for the response SV2QLU

      Ah, I see. I have heard that some headsets or earpieces, normally used for pairing with a cell, will work with the Yaesu Bluetooth for talking on the radio. I’m not an authority on this since I don’t own any Yaesu Bluetooth equipped radios. I think you can set the radio to operate based on vox keying the radio using this method.

    Can other people connect to your radio or do you need to go with the Hri 200

    • @GhostRider1974
      @GhostRider1974  4 роки тому +1

      Thomas Henderson ...others that have a Fusion-capable Radio can connect to Wires-X if they are using the digital narrow mode. However, I have to be in HRI mode instead of PDN. That is, I have to select on my radio the operation where it sends and receives RF (on frequencies you select within the Wires-X software) during communications.

      Thomas Henderson ...yessir, that will work! Keep in mind though that you’ll need a separate radio (HT or your mobile radio) to hear what’s going on. The rig tied to the Wires-X software will be tied up transmitting RF when anyone is having a QSO.

      No, you can toggle to HRI type mode (at least on an FTM-400) by pressing the band B volume button...however, you will then need another Fusion-capable radio, such as an HT, to hear what is being transmitted and to transmit back into the system.
