- Bride, Nikki, has tried on 15 dresses already and still can't find the one. She's liked the dresses on the hanger but just doesn't like the way they look on her.

Gok is the only one who doesn't exploit its clients. He is not bothered about the profit but is concentrating on the bride

I used to think Randy was the best consultant, someone who was 100% born to do that job. Then I saw episodes with Gok. There really is no one else like him. He does deserve his own show.

I can also see gok doing the psychology thing a bit too much and not his job. Like even its spot on its too much and over stepping.

@@arocks1234567 Remember we are only seeing a small slice of a very long day. He's talked with them and the boutique is more intimate that the others. I don't feel it is over stepping to the brides he helps. He says just enough, we just see the condensed version.

Not sure if you're from the UK, but throughout the 2000's and 2010's he's had several shows about confident dressing and finding clothing/a style that suits you. Honestly wedding dresses is the best end goal for his career path
No, I like him show-hopping! If you follow his career, he‘s done different shows of different genres throughout his career. He adds his twist everywhere he goes. I love this about him.

I would say Gok missed his calling to be a therapist, but he absolutely has found his calling. The world needs more Goks
I agree 1,000,000% but wouldn't say he missed it. He made himself more easily accessible to those who may need him but couldn't otherwise reach him or may be too afraid to seek out a therapist. Sometimes it's easier for someone to accept how beautiful they are with an image than it is to come to that realization with just conversation (compliments, therapy, etc.) alone. I believe that's what he does. He creates a picture while explaining their beauty so there is an actual image of the person as the star they truly are. What better way than with wedding dresses, since people place so much importance on them?
When insecurities surface, he can freely combat them head-on with much needed rebuttals and actually say the words "you are beautiful" without being hit with a lawsuit or being cited as being unprofessional.
having therapists disguised in other professions especially like this one is the biggest blessing i think everyone should try to learn or observe thing or two about human emotions to deal with their customers well

Who destroyed this gorgeous woman's self-esteem to this point? She could wear baggy pants and a comfy shirt and still stop rush-hour traffic! It so sad and maddening thinking of whatever she had to suffer through, to make her feel this insecure about herself. And hats off to Gok for boosting her confidence; he's a real gem.
She looks great in everyting, but the last one just sent my jaw through the floor. Just..incredible. Absolutely incredible.
I said out loud "OH, WOW" when I saw the last dress and even started tearing up when she finally opened her eyes to see it!!!

Something Ive noticed about Gok is that when he has a bride who's unsure of herself or insecure, he always goes with a new dress with the same level of enthusiasm as the first one. Rather than pushing on the bride that he's getting tired or they're running out of options, he gives the bride the chance to fall in love with a dress like it's the first one they've put on and I feel like that means so much

Also they have this way of fitting the gown to the bride perfectly even if its not the right size for her. Other sytd failed to do so, hence the bride cant see the whole picture of the gown on their body.

that's not really fair, the US version tries really hard not to go over budget and even the UK version has gotten better about respecting budgets (at least when david's not there to ask about StReTcH 🙄). any bridal shop would be thrilled with a $5000 budget, that covers the vast majority of dresses.

@@jemmaj2919 But they are shopping for new sampledresses every year, so they could have a wider viarity of dresses in the other shops, too. I think one of the reasons may be the different cultural background, cause this is in GB and maybe through that more european while the others are more american? Also the demand for different type of dresses varies in different regions, so the shop owners buy dresses that they will probably sell in that region.

Gok doesn't just give you the dress you want, he gives you the dress you NEED
She says her budget is $5,000. Rather than try to gouge her like they do in Atlanta, UK and NYC, Auntie Gok has her try on dresses progressively less expensive and the final dress is well below 30% of her budget. THIS breeds trust!!!!!
(Edit to add: When I say *"UK"* I'm speaking of *David* in "Say Yes to the Dress UK" (not Lancashire). No matter what budget the bride has, David *Always* picks dresses well above that.)
It seems like the family and friends grab dresses with out checking prices in NYC and Atlanta. You can't blame the consultants for that.

I completely understand how she feels. I always feel like people are lying when they tell me I'm pretty or give me compliments. It's so hard to get past it.

I swear Gok is a professional psychiatrist who specializes in helping brides feel as beautiful as they look. The shop is his office and dresses are his prescriptions.

I literally said ‘oh my gosh!’ aloud! Which was a first for me. And I have watched endless hours of Say yes to the dress right from the first Kleinfeld episode. Usually when I see someone with a beautiful dress which they will eventually choose, I just smile and nod. But she looked drop dead gorgeous and Gok is truly the best there is. I won’t call him a consultant coz he is so much more than that! He must be such an amazing friend to have. Randy too! Both of them are simply n fabulously amazing!

i usually never cry for wedding dresses, especially when i don't even know the person and i'm not from a culture that has wedding dresses, but what i do know is how she feels when she thinks she isnt beautiful, and when she apologises for being hard work, and when she's insecure and pulls herself down. i do that every single day and it's so exhausting, so seeing someone so beautiful finally look at herself in a dress and be that happy really got the tears flowing. im so SO happy for her

The "plain" dress looked stunning on her already, but damn, the one Gok came up with looked like it was made for her, just sensational.

Oh my gosh this shop is like an enchanted forest. All the dresses hanging up look like snow covered pine trees.
That makes these girls all Nicholas Alkemade miracles.
Have a google to read his story in WW2, but basically, his bomber was going down, he was 19, his parachute was damaged. He had to decide if he would go with the plane and blow up or jump, at 20,000 feet, and splat.

He woke between the 2 trees, in a gully full of snow, convinced he was dead. His first thought was this must be heaven I have to be dead. But why is heaven so cold and wet?
He spent the rest of the war as a POW. His grandson was a chef last time I heard.
So the thought that those wedding dresses were like snow covered trees, made me think of that extraordinary WW2 story. In a way, those dresses pull off little miracles in Gok's hands...

I used to feel the same, one day I looked in the mirror for a long time, and thought why? Why do I feel that way? For how long do I want to feel and be like that? You only have one life. You can't spend it in doubt. Then I started to google for "what makes someone appealing when they aren't nice looking" and the answer was always "confidence"... Then I looked for "how to look confident" then I faked it until I made it!

Damn, as a girl in high school still, it was heartbreaking to see all of my issues that I have inside her. This actually made me see what's wrong with thinking that way. I hope she finally sees how beautiful she is, because I'm personally still working on it.

I'm so sorry to read that you've been struggling with your self esteem. I'd heartily recommend that you look up Gok Wan's work, as I think it might really help you (he's written books, articles, and done a lot of TV work). He has spent years helping women to feel good about themselves and he did a TV series a while back called 'Gok’s Teens: The Naked Truth' that you might find particularly interesting, as it focused on teens with self esteem issues, with Gok helping them to see themselves differently.
He is quoted as saying that "self confidence isn't waking up and loving everything about yourself - it's waking up and not hating any part of yourself". That's easier said than done as a teen, I know, but it's a very liberating mindset. I felt very similarly to how you describe at your age, but I promise you that it does get better. You get to a stage in your life where you stop caring about what other people think - because none of them are perfect, either - and focus more on what makes you happy and what is right. My biggest piece of advice to you, though, would be to never put up with other people's negativity. If someone plays on your insecurities or tries to bring you down then they don't have your best interests at heart, so they haven't earned the right to be part of your life. Refusing to accept negativity was a game-changer for me, and I hope it can be for you, too.

David Emmanuel can learn from Gok. He is awful. Gok offers a very wide variety of beautiful wedding gowns with reasonable price. He is respectful of bride's budget.
Not to mention that Auntie Gok isn't so haughty and full of himself like David Emanuel is. David Emanuel is my least favorite stylist/designer in the whole series of SYTTD.

Very rarely do I see a bride put on a dress that takes my breath away. This was one exception and had me tearing up. She looked amazing! The more I watch Gok, the more I love him. He gets his brides and it shows.

I love how Gok listens to what his clients want and works with their budget. He does everything he can to get the bride what she wants without breaking the bank. I don’t think I’ve heard him say a single negative thing about a bride’s choices or behaviour.
I remember years ago in summer I went out and I have a scare on my leg from a accident...so I wore leg warmer (same color has my skirt n boobtube) I was paranoid all day...I felt silly legwarmer in hot summer,but I couldn't stand my scare to be shown....I was out and gok was in the same bar he actualy came over to me and said you look fabulous and loved what I was wearing .and those words lifted my spirits and I didnt care what people thought...fashion guru said I looked fab n I did....

When she put on the gown that wasn’t shown to her, I cried. She looked breathtakingly gorgeous. I can feel her anxiousness- but the way she overcame it in that dress, it’s her confidence that she wore the best. It’s beautiful and what’s more beautiful is how Gok was so nice and supportive and helped her gain her confidence.
This woman seems really lovely and a bit vulnerable. I hope her husband is as lovely and is supportive.

Gok is magic. I absolutely LOVE the dress she finally chose. She looked gorgeous in all of them but the final dress was divine. I don't think I have ever seen anything like it (and I have watched this show for years). Like another person commented, he could have just let her have her 'safe' dress, but he didn't. He wanted her to look and feel like the best version of herself...and he succeeded. He has a gift from God. I also have to say the same for Randy. God bless them.
This got me crying...I felt for her the entire time! I was brought up with my father always putting me down, never ever saying I was pretty, always criticizing...so I totally got her not seeing what everyone else saw, a beautiful and stunning woman, denying herself. When she saw herself in THE dress and realized her own beauty I was crying hard cause I was SO HAPPY for her. Gok is such am empath...he understands peoples' minds. There's something so genuine and special about him... He is really a super counsellor, who understands and connects with women's deepest insecurities and fears. Sales are never put above the feelings of the brides. Rather, the gorgeous gowns are simply a means to an end, which is the happy, confident brides. I think Gok is an Empath! 😘

honestly, i wish i could strip her down to what she looked like at 18 and build her up from there. the plastic surgery, the fake tan, the makeup, she doesn't need any of it.
She's done herself up yo look like Angelina Jolie but I bet she was prettier to begin with.!

This is the first video that made me tear up , and I have seen many. I actually cried with her friends because I see their recognition of her struggles with her inner self. And to see her overjoyed was such a blessing
Every dress she tried on fit her like 'butter'. She's got an incredible shape, her color compliments the white of the dresses, she has ALL the things. She just needed Gok!

The fact that Gok just steals the show. He makes every bride feel so special. He gave her such a confidence boost. It's so sweet.
This man has such a gift. Wonderful staff and establishment. Comforting, caring, supportive, and not over the top drama.
Gok is wonderful, I loved his show years ago when he would take women with low self esteem, give them a makeover and eventually get them to pose for a glamorous photo shoot! Gok has a gift for seeing inside a woman, to her very sense of self, he can sense their insecurities and he is amazing at healing and rebuilding that woman from the inside out! Gok is an incredible human being and as wonderful as watching him on this show is, he really deserves his own show again, doing what he does best - helping women to love their bodies from the inside out!
This was the most beautiful episode I watched of SYTTD - the bride is so beautiful and looked ABSOLUTELY stunning in every single dress! But on the last one I went „WOW“ in front of the screen… Gok picked very well.
I literally gasped out loud when I saw her in that last dress; sooooo gorgeous on her!!

She looks absolutely amazing in all of the dresses, but the last one is just breathtaking!! As usual, Auntie Gok has magical powers to connect to the brides! (And also I have noticed, Lancashire is the only place that customizes the fit of sample dresses during fittings and not just uses those clamps things at the back! That makes the dresses look so much more beautiful and tailor fit for each bride!)

It goes to show that we ALL have body image & self-esteem issues. I would give anything to look like her, but after having been both heavy & skinny, I know we are always finding fault within ourselves. I'm so glad he took the time to understand her and she was able to find the most perfect dress. She is incredibly gorgeous!🤩
