As a volunteer of a miniature railway I can attest to the popularity of trains , Last year we had near 100,000 passengers ! It's great fun and a great place to be !,

I would love to ride on one of the UK’s heritage trains. Way back in the mid 1970s, I rode the train from London to Edinburgh. That was my first experience with jellied tongue, which I loved! Can’t get anything like it in the USA. But to ride on one of the steam trains is on my bucket list! Thanks for the chance to see these lovely trains. I will be riding a steam train next July, the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, on my 80th birthday!

I think, part of the reason for the popularity of the old steam trains, is that they appear alive and they also show form. Whereas “modern” diesel and electric locomotives, don’t generally have any character. Also, I think, we have forgotten that the steam trains of old, were dirty, smelly, and you were left with soot particles covering everything.
Long live the steam train! 😊

Superb work by true dedicated craftsmen & maybe ladies too. I’ve been a trainman & conductor on the Santa Fe Ry 40 years then volunteer work on various steam powered trains including Santa Fe 3751 to Railfair99, Sacramento, CA. Where we were honored to have a tour of British Rail employees. I was docent on the 3751. It was interesting trading info. I’m amazed at the large number of operating steam locos GB has.

......the Pullman Car Company of the UK was a separate company from the US Company. Though owned by the Pullman Company in Chicago they had separate shops native to the UK their own in Brighton and the rest contracted with various coach works through out the country. PCC of the UK was acquired by British Rail in 1955.

I think the British are justifiably proud of the fact that they invented the steam engine. I mean, y'all invented the steam engine. 😊
