SCP-3108 The Nerfing Gun

- Опубліковано 13 січ 2022
- SCP 3108 is a Safe Class anomaly also known as The Nerfing Gun.
SCP-3108 is a heavily modified Nerf brand dart gun which demonstrates anomalous transformative properties when paired with SCP-3108-1, a foam dart discovered loaded within SCP-3108 at the time of recovery.
When SCP3108 fires SCP-3108-1 into a target, said target will instantaneously be altered in such a way that the result is perceived as "worse" or "inferior" by the individual wielding the object.

"Why would you turn a joke into a torture device?"
Welcome to the SCP Foundation, my boy.
Every joke is a murder weapon and every murder weapon sucks at jokes! We've got it all, here-
"We're cold, not cruel."
Proceeds to turn D-class into earthworms.
@@friendlyneighborhooddislik486 well the ethics committee can only do so much to get foundation staff to remember that
Reverse Clockworks SCP
1) The idiot creator made the device so that it could work on ANYTHING.
2) He made the device out of a nerf gun, a gun you shoot at people for fun.
3) The gun was booby trapped...you take it apart, your fingers turn into rubber gloves.
4) He gifted it to his brother, which he would of used in his public birthday.
Whether on a meaningless object with proper instruction or not, would immediately cause people to be startled and call the media cause the guy literally had a magic nerf gun.
He and his family, sans the SCP foundation intervention, would of been under immediate national scrutiny.
5) The creator inadvertently created something that had beyond astounding. Of course they would need to test it on live beings. Yes, even sentient. Imagine if 100 shots from this thing on the Destroyer of Worlds could turn him into a mere human sized rock monster?
6) Why didn't they interrogate him more on the means and method he used to create it? He's a fool but he's also a live anomaly creator, one that doesn't go completely missing or dead before the anomaly is found. No foundation agent would ever let an anomaly creator go on his way like that.

The creator does not have a moral highground. He's an idiot that made something super powered and gave it to his kid brother, regardless of whether he gave instructions.

@@Heidijackward Actually they do, it depends what cannon you're using, as they are either harmless, or they possess power rivaling even the administrator themselves.
There is one cannon where not only is the ethics committee powerful, they have procedures in place for if the 05 council ever goes rogue, they have plans in place specifically tailored to eliminate each member of the 05 council, including their vary own MTF unit designed specifically to counter the 05's MTF called something like The Law's Left Hand.
In this cannon they have the authority to override any decision if they believe the cost would be too high, or the benefits wouldn't be worth it.
Essentially they have said their job is to quantify the value of a human life vs the value of what could be learned from an SCP.

While he was irresponsible, I like the guy who made this. broke the laws of physics for a joke, iconic.
Am I to believe the creator of the gun was not asked about HOW IN THE WORLD DID HE MAKE IT?!
Seriously, the one time where the foundation actually manages to get their hands on the creator of an anomalous object and they blow the golden question?
He's a reality bender, one of many inside Gamers Against Weed. The Foundation doesn't really bother them much unless one of their creations get outta hand as part of an agreement with GAW, that's why the creator was released and not kept in a cell as another SCP.
Because the SCP foundation knows how SCP tech is made, but is not able to transmit such knowledge as a Security Violation... could you imagine if everyone knew how to make anomalous objects what chaos it would bring about?
I figured they probably did ask that question, then just left it out of the procedure and put it into a separate more classified report
@@YogiofEternalPeace Oh yeah.
I'm actually ok with the fact that they didn't ask that. Its probably gonna be something similar to time travel where it just doesn't make sense, you're head will hurt with nose bleeds an its clearly just a thing now. The one time they find something that might "nerf" 682, they say, "No testing on other SCPs"
for 682, it can be reasonably dangerous. 682's ability is to adapt. theoretically, by " nerfing" 682. you are creating the adaptation that will make him "OP" making containment impossible as now his adaptation is explicitly " being too powerful". That would mean simply by having an upper hand against 682, it would get proportionally stronger in response.

Quite nice.
Unfortunately
I despise nerf guns
I have two main things I'm wondering for this SCP:
Are the darts it uses retrievable? Is there somehow an infinite supply? Or are they somehow making more?
Doesn't the dart always hit something, even if not its intended target? I mean they have to eventually land on the ground or floor. Some might miss and hit a wall. Why is there no mention of the chaos from a missed shot?
And two more minor ones, why did it affect the person hit and not just the clothes? And did the coffee in the cup or the drink inside the pop can change too, or just the vessel?
"Why would you turn a joke into a torture device?"
My question is: why did you turn a nerf gun, that's being used to be shoot at people for fun, into a transforming device and designed it so that it works on humans too? And why did you give it to a 10 year old not warning him beforehand? You're lucky that no children were hurt and the only victims were some D-Class and the two folks hit by the falling rocks.
I doubt he specifically designed it to work on everything. He just haphazardly designed it to nerf whatever was hit, and as such realised and alerted the kid when he turned it on his friend having failed to consider the ideas he'd have with a toy gun. The creator isn't bad per say, but perhaps a bit slow or got caught on a bad day.

Anyone else wonder what would happen if murderous SCP's like SCP 682 The Hard To Kill Reptile was shot with this, maybe it'd turn into a less effective version of itself, (or maybe a crocodile/alligator) lessening it's ability to adapt and making it easier to kill?
In an alternate universe, 3108 turned 682 into a stronger, harder to kill reptile. Because the guard that fired, believed that having a stronger 682 would be an even worse situation to deal with.
This has already been discussed on the Foundation website, due to 3108 being opinion based on what is "worse" based on the person firing it, it would most likely make 682 DEADLIER because most people would think that's worse than he currently is.
Honestly I'd love to see 3108 Cross-tested with 682 to see if you can nerf the nearly indestructible lizard

"It is not to be used in any SCP cross-tests."
So you are telling me that the nerf gun with the ability to "devolve" a target cannot be used on 682?
It is difficult to imagine how 682 could turn that around to its advantage.
@@Gebohq It did actually in a cross test, since in the eyes of the foundation a destroyable version of 682 is an improvement.
it's too risky, what if it aquired the abilities of the gun? it could nerf the acid it's summerged in or the walls of its containment chamber
Another comment here mentioned this but, since this gun makes the target worse in the eyes of the wielder and in the eyes of the foundation a weaker, killable SCP-682 is actually an improvement, so it will instead become worse - in the eyes of the foundation: a larger, harder to destroy reptile with the ability to explode his body like a bomb and then reconstitute itself.
It’s based on what they would consider ‘worse’.
My first thought was, would they be thinking worse as in worse to deal with or harder to contain? Or is it guaranteed to literally take what most people mean when they say ‘nerf’ and is only able to weaken or devolve.
Maybe it would just remove random adaptations from 682?
Edit: and my connection finally let me see the other comments.
I’d use it to turn overpowered things in video games into a nerfed version
Let me use it on Zacian and Incineroar. Much better.
the legendary card miner from clash royale
This could turn cassy back into a normal drawing, undoing what 914 did.
Well the gun seems to work on someone's expectation of what would be considered 'nurfing' something. Imagine if the shooter was hypotized to think that making something 10 times better was 'nerfing' it.
Except that doesn't work, the younger brother had no idea he would nerf the wall- unless you mean to totally and utterly change the expectation of what nerfing is
I assume the device works by your subconscious bias. you couldn't just will something into being better by changing your paradigm. I.e. you couldn't just look at something and be like "Oh I sure think this pen would be a worse WRITING utensil if it was a $60000 keyboard and computer combo..." I would imagine that the subconscious bias you have toward writing utensils would first turn it into something like a non- ball point pen, then into a dip quill, then into a sharp rock that flakes off and leaves a trail of dust... so on and so forth. conceptually that makes more sense to me than just saying "we can technically make something better if we make it worse at one thing." thus, you couldn't change your idea of a nerf to something by hypnotizing yourself or being put under the influence of some other cogneto hazardous scp.
Then it would basically be a portable, subjective version of scp-914
@@fayt9121 ik its been months but what the person above suggested could work since like you pointed out it works ofthe subconscious therefore if someone was brainwashed to believe the worst options for things are actually better to them. Like what happened with the coke and Pepsi. Therefore brainwash someone into 100% believing that a futuristic car is worse than a normal one and it'll turn into the futuristic one. That would need to be done for every object and thing so not worth the trouble but yeah it's possible.
@@jamie_a_romanben43 I'm not convinced. It wouldn't be your subconscious thoughts, it would be Implanted thoughts. Subconscious indicates something you have no control over. Sub or below conscious thought. I'm pretty sure all non brain damaged humans know that killing is wrong... But you can be desensitized and trained to do it. This does not mean the person just accepts that it's right... They still know it's wrong to take a life but you have to have soldiers. I feel like that's where this thing falls. You can inbed conscious ideas that x thing is just a worse y (a 10 trillion dollar super collider of a computer is, after all a worse physical writing utensil than a pencil.) But you subconsciously know that x is not really worse than y (...we both know that hadron collider of a computer can link up with a printer and print out any marks that a pencil can make).
Nice to know it was just a joke, and that the guy who made it stood up to the foundation to say it isn’t dangerous, it’s only dangerous depending on who used it
But at the same time it is a NERF gun... it is made to shoot at people for fun

I cannot overstate how perfect it is for the gun to turn coke into Pepsi.
This actually revolutionary for the scp foundation, ever tested with other scp, likes one been trying to get rid of or at least neutralize

682 would adapt and likely result in the gun buffing him instead.
@@Jkev24 sigh... i know but i really hate that damn lizard
What I would do is modify the memory of the person wielding the gun to make them think that making the item really powerful, like a gun turns into a death ray laser gun that can cut through anything, is the same as down grading it.
That would certainly be a handheld 914.
Then use it on 914.

This implies that a literal scientist unironically believes the first movie to be better 😂😂😂
I'm interested on why this wouldn't be the first thought as a weapon against 682. Perhaps it'll nerf its adaptability.
It seems to only nerf a certain amount of features which doesn't seem like enough to either stop its regenerative abilities or that it could just use the dart itself maybe and start firing it at people
I thought the same thing an came looking for this comment!
Depends on the definition the gun has of worse. For the foundation it would be much worse if 682 became even more op.
with 682's adaptability, it might gain the ability to change stuff just like the gun. Though that was my first thought tooo
They actually tried that. And it made 682 more powerful. They theorized that it's because the gun uses the wielders opinion to define the concept of "worse". And the researchers would have considered a lizard that they could kill to be an improvement on their current situation, so the gun gave them the opposite of that.
Shoot the hard to kill lizard with it. It would most likely “nerf” it’s healing factor or maybe get rid of its adaptation abilities. Being that it also changes things based on the user I’d say it might work. I really hope y’all see this and let us all know would this work if testing was aloud between other SCPS. LOVE THIS SERIES.
My thoughts exactly
That's what I was about to suggest lol
Yeah let ' s see the l!zard get nerfed
Agreed 💯
There’s also the risk that it could take on the gun’s ability.
I wonder, can the Nerfing Gun's effects be reversed by running the effected object through the Clockworks on the "Fine" setting?
I realise that cross-testing with other anomolies is forbidden, but some thhings must be known!
Considering dr Brights love for mischief this would be probably his dream gun.
I'd see if I could intentionally upgrade something by changing my actively thought perspective of what a nerf would be. For example if you were to take a knife. And consider the combat capability, a nerf would be to turn it into a gimmic knife like a folding knife that looks like a key. Now you're looking at your gimmic knife and considering its value as a gimmic knife. It becoming a dangerous combat knife would be a nerf to its gimmic levels.
im pretty sure that if you were to turn it into a key, it wont simply just be the key you need, and instead just some random key

They nerfed this gun in the latest patch
What no they haven't
I just checked my save file and it was the same
@@popsicle7456
Have you updated the game? In my version it's been nerfed
@@RobertoDeMundo oh really
I should probably update my game then
The gun was buffed in patch 1.43.7 due to complains that it was way too nerfed, the update also locked cross-testing the gun with other SCPs
I love how this channel unlike other scp channels sometimes reviews the more interesting and peculiar scps rather than always focusing on scary evil indestructible monsters all the time.
They come out with a new video almost every day, so they have to keep things interesting by making their content vary.
You should check out SCP Orientation, the team there is making their way through ALL scps from 001 onward. They're into Volume 5 (401-500) right now.
"Maybe, just maybe, he would acquire special powers"
*horrified screaming in background*
I get the "Tiny people living in his back yard." reference :D
"The gun is not allowed to be used at SCP crosstests"
682: BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, SIKE!
I like to think that if this SCP was used on that one SCP that is always better than you it would then become a being that is always a bit worse than you, giving everyone a confidence boost
or maybe always as good as you
someone capable of internal and dynamic self hypnosis, particularly perception and preference. could actively control the transformations of the gun.
The fact that it’s almost my birthday makes it kinda cool!
I'm with Nathan on this one. It was kind of stupid to give a ten-year-old such a weapon, but who the hell looks at something they know the effects of and say "yeah, let's use it on people"?
The same organization that arbitrarily executes "class D" individuals by the thousand on a whim. Like for instance their guillotine that when used on someone, the severed head for 10 minutes becomes the consciousness of one particular person they wanted to interrogate, and them killing many class D individuals just to interrogate him.
There motto
"Where cold not cruel" is pure bullshit
--
The creator does not have a moral highground. He's an idiot that made something super powered and gave it to his kid brother, regardless of whether he gave instructions.
as the saying goes, "curiosity killed the cat", sure you know what it can do but wouldn't you be curious as to what it does to a human? I know I would, on the people i hate the most
put sam o nelle clip here
If the gun turns something into a worse version of itself it could probably take on 682 or make it worse
But worse can mean many things. Worse in this context could mean stronger and worse for the foundation
@@NebulousNebula22313 but it’s subjective, and the wording seems to be a bit confusing. Worse seems to imply ‘Less Effective’ or ‘inferior’ in this context.
@@NebulousNebula22313 it is less of a version of worse and more of a version of preference I thought? Like the can of Coke changing to Pepsi and vice versa for the other guard?
@@GiggiliGaiX3 I think worse was the wrong word for them to use as it is called the nerfing gun and implies worse to mean inferior. You don't nerf something and it become more O.P.
Example would be in video games when a gun is seen as being too good the developers may nerf it by cutting the dps. And by switching the word worse with inferior the whole video would still hold up as saying coke is worse then Pepsi is the same as saying coke is inferior to pepsi.
Yeah when you say worse version of itself it could be worse in many ways so it’s not really worth the risk of 682 getting stronger or more dangerous than it already is
He created potentially the most powerful scp ever and they didn't even ask him how he did it
"Sir, should we use D-class for this?"
"Nah, just pull some poor saps off the street. It's not like we're killing them or anything."
Hey, they actually used this on SCP-076 at one point. this wasn't canon though but it was effective.
The story behind it
A non canon SCP 4000 had become a security guard (not the actual 4000, a different one). A an old friend of his who had been turned into a cyborg tried stopping him from using 3108 to stop 076, who had been attacking the site. Naturally 4000 pulled the trigger and to his surprise, it had ammo it in. It turned the cyborg back to a man, they reunited before he went and used 3108 on 076, it made 076 human, which allowed them to kill him. But he was perm dead.
Makes one wonder, could the nerfing gun take away the unkillable or adapting part of 682, cause it makes the hit target inferior?
no plot armor would block it
@@thedevourerofglue9162 Sadly and frustratingly. I REALLY wish the scp community would finally just say “okay thats enough” and kill it once and for all to end its story.
legit what i was thinking
it would adapt and nerf the cell
They say that it makes things worse. Take that into context.
0:17 the clown doesnt need to be mocked, he seems like a nice guy
Something about this object just SCREAMS wondertainment. Perhaps collaboration or maybe I just haven't seen enough GAW articles
wait... wouldn't this be perfect for 682? It should make it a destroyable lizard I guess. Or was this already tried?
could be useful to try, but I suspect it will just 'regenerate' and turn back to normal.
The entire gimmick with 682 is literally just 'plot armor'. It survives because the plot says it should.
682 would simply regress and then transform back.
They tried it. However, since a weaker, killable 682 would actually be considered an improvement by the Foundation and the Nerfing Gun specifically turns things into what the user thinks would be worse, it instead transformed the reptile into an even bigger creature that could at will detonate its body like a bomb and then reconstitute itself. Thankfully 682 eventually lost this upgraded power. Test failed.
@@Ishtarru Ah! That's so dumb that it makes perfect sense. I didn't know that, thanks
Hey, they actually used this on SCP-076 at one point. this wasn't canon though but it was effective
"This is now considered an ethics violation" The SCP Foundation never gave a damn about ethics ever xD
I did think this could be a good aid against 682 but knowing how it reacts it would find a way to debuff others making foundation rifles squirt guns etc
Having this come back across my feed would have me use it on Gas Prices.
A "NERF" gun SCP? Now I saw almost everything...
There's a dildo SCP also.
@@r4fa3l59 what's the designation number
@@robbieramsey3092 SCP-3883 or SCP-297. I think SCP-297.
It’s kind of like Rule 34.
If it exists, there’s an SCP for it.
There are two dildo scps. SCP-297 is a vibrator that has a setting that can cause anything the upper portion touches to fall apart at an atomic level. SCP-3883 is a tentacle shaped dildo that dreams of being an eldritch creature. Anyone who sleeps near it will dream of an eldritch creature (which the dildo uses as an avatar of sorts to live out it's aforementioned desire). Also, the dildo's reflection will instead show an eldritch creature, though regular mirrors show a normal reflection.
I’d use it just to prank people…. Mainly use it how it was intended
I’d probably fire it at things I allready know are worthless and see how it even can make them worse
I absolutely cracked up when I saw the coke can was "downgraded" to Pepsi.
I call that an upgrade.
So if the nerfing properties works by the users understanding of the worst version, then can the foundation use it to also upgrade stuff by having it fire by a person who thinks nerfing is upgrading?
Yes. As they demonstrated, if you want coke have someone who likes Pepsi turn a can of it into Coke for you. I'm sure they have some SCP that can alter a person's core beliefs so pretty easy to implement.
@@Elliandr The issue is the gun has a sense of humor to a degree. If it knew what you were trying to do, it could entirely just decide to fucking say screw it and use it's power to screw with you. A short involving this gun with 682 exists where the gun knew they were trying to make 682 'worse' in the sense of 'a worse version of itself' but instead made it 'WORSE' as in "Worse for the foundation itself" and then promptly *upgraded it.*
The gun cannot be predicted, unfortunately, so that probably has something to do with the stringent testing protocols now.
Against certain SCPs, make it a worse version could have entirely the wrong result, as it's also influenced by the user... it would be worse if 682 got immunity to acid
That's a good point since most people would obviously see a worse version of a threat as a more threatening version. Maybe if the person shooting was suicidal and wanted it to be quick, it could work well or at least better.
I think "worse" in this case is an inaccurate word to use. It "nerfs" whatever it shoots, as in when they "nerf" something in a video game. The gun isn't making it a "worse" version of the target it is making a "less powerful/less useful" version of the target. SCP-682 would be a prime candidate for them to cross test with as it would either not work or would make 682 less OP.
what if it just turned scp 682 into a crocodile
That blaster you have is a maverick CS-6 revolver, a pretty weak blaster in today's standards but a damn classic
At least they're smart enough not to memory wipe Nathan considering how hard it was to find someone linked to G.A.W.
I'd use it on my snobby neighbor's lovely modern house and transform it into the worst Architecture style imaginable.
That gun may very easily be the most powerful SCP the foundation has ever known or encountered. If the gun chooses what it turns it into depending on your perspective, it has nothing to do with the item itself. It's a predictable, manipulateable and more capable version of SCP 914 and 294 combined.
If you had full control over what it targeted and considered "worse", you could turn anything into anything, regardless of how unrelated the "downgraded" item is to the original one. Thus, if you could manipulate someone's mind, and made them think "the worse version of a piece of paperclip is a pill that makes the person that takes it omnipotent", the gun would theoretically do it. There has to be some SCP that allows manipulation of the mind, and even if there isn't, there are people irl who has enough control over their minds to change what they think is worse.
The potential for that nerf gun is orders of magnitudes higher than any other SCP the foundation has combined. The scarlet king, the weird flying angel monster, the toy maker, the machine god; f**k them all. This one gun can literally make anyone into an omnipotent, omniscient being, and can even make you stronger than another omnipotent, omniscient being if you considered "being more powerful than god is worse".
Replace god with every scp 001 combined, or even every scp combined, or even EVERYTHING combined, and you already get omnipotence from scp 343, and every power of every scp. What's more, if what you consider more powerful is just the positive effects, which you consider as worse, that would give you only the positive effects of any and all scps.
I have read this and am astonished as how can someone make such a paragraph like this :v

Nerf fanatic here. I’m listening.
6:06 Good use of the term “shell.”
Would love to see this in one of those Scp Vs Scp videos, wonder if it could make 682 less dangerous/destroyable. Or if it has the ability to transform things that we cant fully comprehend thus we wouldn't necessarily be able to personally determine a lesser/worse counterpart
Well, according to the video, the nerfing gun will start doing physical damage if the person wielding it doesn’t know what could make the entity/object it’s shot at, worse.
Imagine if there is a similar SCP called the buffing gun.
682 would LOVE that. He'd use it on the other scps and the nerfing gun on 999
It would be the same thing as the nerfing gun but it does the opposite?
@@Person-tz1tk yes. That's why I said 682 would love it
