I started looking into the Arteon a few days ago and this is, by far, the best auto review that I have ever seen. You didn't get overly technical and spend a lot of time under the hood. You focused more on the cabin and the driving experience which is much more important to a standard driver, imo. The point you made about the key blew me away. It's a hard truth and such an excellent point to raise. Thank you for this. I will be getting a Lapiz Arteon in the coming days.
Update: I wasn't able to get the Lapiz Blue due to the shipping issues going on but I did get the Grey SEL-R. I've had it for two weeks now and this is one purchase that I'm actually proud of.
Hope you have gotten your Arteon. I have the 29121 SEL R-Line Premium in Metallic Black and absolutely love it. Driving is so enjoyable. It turns heads with jaws dropped everywhere I go.
@Cynthia Mitchell yes ma'am I did. I got the gray sel r and it's a dream. I'm loving the reactions I get too. The best one is "Arteon, what's that". LOL
The exterior of this car is absolutely beautiful and the engine spec is also very value for money, especially when you compare it to C200 or 320i. However, its the after sales service that im worried about. Having owned a 12-year-old mk5 golf gti and how unreliable the car is at that age plus the fact that those parts always have to be shipped from either singapore or somewhere else thus increasing the waiting time, i'd say I've had enough with VW. Having said all that, this Arteon is really really really value for money and if i hadnt picked up the G20 330i in May, i would've PROBABLY heavily considered this.
Based on your review on ride comfort, looks like the facelifted Arteon has much better ride comfort than the pre Facelift. I remember reading WapCar rating article that Sports mode just corrupts ride quality of Arteon without significant improvement in handling. Wow! That's an improvement on the facelift. Kudos to VW.

After sales service is very important and is a key factor when selecting a car brand. Regrettably, VW malaysia leaves much to be desired. Hopefully this changes in the future, as I’d imagine they wouldn’t get many recurring customers if this keeps up
both very different car because it's similar share platform but if you want practical go with the passat but if you want a sporty look go with the arteon
U mentioned in the video that the entry point for the premium compact sedan from Mercedes is the c200? I believe that is not true as the entry point for Mercedes premium sedan is the A200 sedan which is priced around rm230,000
How with the material and build quality ? Becos i hve watch mat watson ( carwow ) review and i found that their Arteon is not same as we got here . Like their Arteon is a 320hp and some other things i fogot . And another thing that Mat find out is they re using cheap material eventho it looks premium . Idk our version if it different or just same with the UK version.
My father already buy the arteon like last night and it was amazing and the engine sound is not fake.well the arteon was first car on the road and my dad was first customer buy the arteon r line 4 motion
Its a very nice car indeed BUT the problem with the car is VW. I had such an awful experience with the service centres that I swore NEVER to ever buy another VW. I had the 2011 VW Passat CC. Drives like a dream but problems like nightmares. Bought at RM250K. Sold 7 years on the dot at RM47,300. In that 7 years, changed batteries 5 times (twice under warranty - 2nd one by threatening them), car got towed 4 times, changed window lifters twice, replaced oil sump on 2nd service (after threatening them again, claimed under warranty), motherboard changed under warranty, reverse camera malfunctioned from day one till I sold it. Seriously, the car drives like a dream on a good day. I am tempted to give the Arteon R go BUT.....I think I'll pass. Yes, it was Wearnes VW. You guessed it.
Since you guys only have this Arteon to review, it would be great for a more in-depth review all out which also covers handling and driving dynamics plus fuel efficiency (again those figures are indeed shocking and disappointing to me, will see that later). Overall Adrian decent and concise review. Expecting a more detailed one. Anyway take care and stay safe
I love the review and think the car is attractive. I think I can get past the VW brand vs BMW/Mercedes too. However the one thing that O can't get past is the previous horror aftersales service stories and parts reliability. Owning a RM250k car with dealer treating their customers like shit after transaction is the worse thing buyer experience one would want to avoid.
@@chinlongcham1017 Frankly based on the service price list based on the website, it is very expensive. Comparable or more expensive than Merc & Beemer. I don't understand at all when VW is in the same league as Honda and Toyota. But servicing price lol.

Agree with you on the stupid material choice. Plastic is not logic for a component exposed to If within 5y warranty, can claim FOC. Can request or demand SC to change to metal impeller waterpump thermostat housing.
Around the last bit. When Adrian claimed VW as a premium brand. VW isn't a premium brand. The term volkswagen equates to people's car. Just becuz u pay premium price it doesn't mean its a premium car. Its just a good looking car with good performance. Good review in general but u disagree with the last point about VW as a premium brand
Not sure if you watched the whole video. I said "Premium brand matters a Mercedes or BMW" and in the conclusion I explicitly said the VW logo is the problem stopping people from putting their money down for this Arteon

Beside in term go practicality Passat is better off with large cabin and more comfortable ride. If I were single I will take F30 but with family Passat is better choice.
Oh gosh. I didn't expect this from B8. Build quality supposed to be higher than the Jap rivals. Well, I'm not really surprised because they use lots of plastic interior especially hard plastic. Or maybe your door panels, the pins weren't installed properly, poor workmanship at factory.
To me, that's just a silly PR reply from VW Malaysia. What's there to setup? At its asking price, for me, adaptive cruise control and AEB are compulsory. I'll pass :)
VW Malaysia marketing team did a fantastic job with its brand awareness in early 2010, sales were pouring then after, so does their partner/vendor ecosystem blossomed. However, VW platforms sold during those periods are all lemons. After sales services were horrible. Arteon is a nice car definitely, but I'll wait for another year to see real life owners running in with real world problems. Hey, with 250k, I'll go for a volvo s60 T8!
You mentioned lemons. I do hear from many ppl they're okay with their VWs but mostly 2016 and after that. Also we've heard of many bad stories. Well just a small suspicion, did VW deliberately sell lemons??? Because cars with some issues can be acceptable but if many things give way how can it be acceptable??? Plus when go for repair and replacement, if problem solved fine good but if keep repeating like no tommorow susah juga. Worse is if after sales is bad, die laa. I know VW M'sia now is unlike before but I still hear reliability and after sales service issues. If anyone more qualified can comment on it, that would be fine. Frankly VW cars hard to complain, they're simply fantastic in almost everything. But I dunno why suddenly the thought of reliability, QC and after sales issues will pop in ppl's mind.
Spec wise, the Arteon is bang on value for money. I'll choose it any day considering how mildly spec-ed the C200 and 320i is. But VW's aftersales is nothing short of horrid!
VW used to have more than 10 dealers/workshops in Klang Valley. Take a look into VW website today, it has gone down to 6 only in Klang Valley. Lots of them have closed down over the years like Wearnes, Wing Hin, TTDI etc.
If compare between entry level 3-series and C class to Arteon, it'd be the Arteon without question. However, if it's a full spec C class, I'd take the full spec C class instead 😁👍
I don't buy into the badge snobbery argument, unfortunately. My success will not be measured by my key fob... "it matters to people" who are shallow. If you need a car to be rated as successful, as Adrian says, "it's sad". This car oozes style, with performance to boot. Now where is my Saga AE key fob.... :)
Should said better than your Ativa though. Perodua fans come attack with different segments and pricing 😂😂😂 Put aside, Arteon looks more busy, i will choose passat over this.
@@aimanfitri0iv thanks Aiman. But if Merc, Lexus & BMW on do it in time locally, why VW takes such a long time? U turn? V turn or W turn? Haha..even Proton X50 can do it better yo
Everything perfect except fuel consumption. 8.9L/100km is insanely high. If it's a Beemer or Merc with same power output I would expect it. However, VW on the other hand, makes extraordinary fuel efficient powerful cars. Hahaha. I expected it to be better than BMW, 8L/100km. Waiting for WapCar comprehensive fuel consumption test for Arteon.
@@aimanfitri0iv Anyway it may not be that bad considering this is more of an outdated engine. This EA888 Gen 3 engine has been used for a decade if I'm not mistaken from Golf GTI MK6 I suppose and followed by pre Facelift Passat. This engine tune used by Arteon is 2017. So it may be acceptable to some. Dammit next year US market will be getting another update of Arteon with a new engine. Most probably EA888 Gen 4. 300hp & 400Nm of torque. Almost sports car performance. Obviously fuel efficiency would be better. Hope that Msian market gets the same engine next year or 2023 would do. That would be great.
@@aimanfitri0iv VW rocked with DSG innovation but looks like they've stopped. 7 speed is too old, time for 9 speed at least. Would further enhance pickup, acceleration, extra ratios for highway cruising and better fuel consumption in highway
@@aimanfitri0iv The later update of the model should retain the same suspension setting as this facelift but I think the powertrain and gearbox combo need to be sporty and really fun unlike the comfort oriented nature. Having more torque and max torque should actually cover from much lower revs. 1.6k RPM is still too high. Between 1 & 1.6k, it's empty. Would be great if the max torque kicks in from 1.2k RPM with the same broad rev range.
@@chadley25 what i heard is that they are still testing the aeb to suit malaysian road. I'm pretty sure that once they've done testing, they'll be sure to make some updates on the car. But it wouldn't be fair. Same case happened to those who bought bmw G20 earlier without the AEB.

Spec wise, the Arteon is bang on value for money. I'll choose it any day considering how mildly spec-ed the C200 and 320i is. But VW's aftersales is nothing short of horrid!
Same feeling as well...is more of the after sales I am worried compare to social status for a brand
However, if it's a full spec C class, I'd take the full spec C class instead 😁👍
very good choice one I know does three cars are very different
I might as well, though that's RM50k more 😂
what do you mean by full spec c class? full spec c200 or full spec c300?
@@aircommandslipperz c300
@@WapCar Forgot to mention if I have the budget 😂
definitely a head turner
I could use some sun roof perhaps in the 3series~ 🤔
one thing... where is the sunroof >,
I don't buy into the badge snobbery argument, unfortunately. My success will not be measured by my key fob... "it matters to people" who are shallow. If you need a car to be rated as successful, as Adrian says, "it's sad". This car oozes style, with performance to boot. Now where is my Saga AE key fob.... :)
Can you please review a Mustang plssss.....
LDP Sunway towards Kelana Jaya 😉
Should said better than your Ativa though.
Perodua fans come attack with different segments and pricing 😂😂😂
Put aside, Arteon looks more busy, i will choose passat over this.
But Arteon is a D segment car, not the same as the 3er and C class. Price wise of course in the same league
yes it is same size as an a5 sportback
3 series and c class are d segments also.
@@aimanfitri0iv nope, Arteon is longer and wheelbase is longer too
Arteon R Line makes me feel so young...like a teenagers
Adrian on Arteon 😉
I'll pick Arteon over the other two then have it parked next my Roc 😉😋
Roc?
@@gribbles1146 yes the t-roc
@@gribbles1146 my Scirocco 😊
The almost non existence of ADAS on this car is totally unacceptable. No AEB/FCW? Are u kidding VW MY for a quarter million car?
the reason for that because it's not tested for local roads for the adas because needs test for local roads to ordered that working for that one
@@aimanfitri0iv thanks Aiman. But if Merc, Lexus & BMW on do it in time locally, why VW takes such a long time? U turn? V turn or W turn? Haha..even Proton X50 can do it better yo
@@CP-qz2nb the reason it took long because they need to do official approval
but no AEB but good review!
Waiting for WapCar comprehensive fuel consumption test for Arteon.
yes it is that engine with thirsty and lots of fuel use but ok
@@royalprince5878 the engine was using 13-year
I myself earn RM15k as specialist and I only drive a myvi
i like this more than the c200 and 3201. 😝
Only if there is a resale value.
Arteon R Line!
wait for Mercedes c class w206
is the best one
yyds for mercedes
It is the same class with 5 series, E class, A4, of course better than 320i and c200.
I came here to read about dsg gearbox problem
Don't mind without ACC. But no AEB? Bare basic modern cars.
because it's not set up for local roads yet
@@aimanfitri0iv What does that even mean?? AEB needs "setup for local roads"? I don't understand this response at all.
@@chadley25 yes suitable for local roads
@@chadley25 what i heard is that they are still testing the aeb to suit malaysian road. I'm pretty sure that once they've done testing, they'll be sure to make some updates on the car. But it wouldn't be fair. Same case happened to those who bought bmw G20 earlier without the AEB.
True, no AEB is unacceptable by today's standards
But but it's not merc or BMW. Kata mereka
9:30 starts blurry and clear repeatedly, i thought my eyes sick hahaha. Btw Arteon is pretty dope though!
Nice but for a typical malaysian its still a VW and would go for 320i or c class
Just in fact you don't aware the G30 3 series is doing quite bad in Malaysia market. I don't have any doubt on C class as it always have high demand.
Idk why am I watching this, I can’t even afford an Axia🤣
Hang in there & keep hustling mate! Let the Arteon be your positive reinforcement to get its replacement model not too far in the future.
can't wait 7-8 years later we could actually buy this for 50% of it's value hahaha
Haha why wait so long. I think in 4-5 years, it will lose half the value
camera blur blur la wei..
It's a good & comfortable car,but service & spare parts expensive than Mercedes Benz, because I'm still driving my Volkswagen Passat B7 year of 2015.😜
