My dad got his tattoos during his time in the army. He has a knife too with his blood type and id incase something happened to him and the medics needed to give him a transfusion. The rest are naked women and tigers 😂
If I could add a tip about your interviewing questions... (dont kill me people) You ask questions that are more specified as to lean him into responding in a yes or no. If you simplified it into an open ended question I feel like it would open up the conversation more. For example just How do you feel about me as a young woman getting tattooed? Instead of Does it feel weird to you that I get tattooed? I really enjoyed this interview and I would love to see a series like this :)
I see what you mean, in my opinion her pops was shy in front of the camera and was already doing his best, I think she adapted the questions to make him feel more comfortable (at least that's how I think the interview evolved). Her being family makes that last question quite compromising, he doesn't want to hurt her feelings being "too honest" even less in front of the whole internet, I felt how she was protecting him (keeping it profesional and without being patronizing at all) and I loved it
thank you so much Goose for doing that math, I was totally thinking $5 in 1954 was a lot more than $5 is now and prob pretty comp to today's price for that size tat =)
I am learning to tattoo and look into home tattoo scene in my area(ukraine, russia) and you can get tattooed for crazy cheap, like less than 5 bucks or some cigarettes. Just because people who do it are either learning or do it just for fun or experience. Though prices are much lower here anyway
L Crook, that's really interesting! I've been tattooed for 30 dollars in America by a tattoo apprentice, but it was a very small tattoo. When I was in Russia and thinking about getting tattooed though, it was quite expensive and hard to find a good artist.
I have recently lost my grandpa and seeing this left such a great wonderful impact on me. Thanks you for doing this. I am a tattoo collector and always watch your videos but this video had me happy crying all the way through it. I just want to give him a great giant hug. This helped my rainy day. He is adorable!
This was such a cool experience to have. To be able to talk to people who got tattoo's for a different purpose than in the contemporary tattoo world is so cool. The history of tattoos is so rich throughout all cultures.
Amanda, I don't know if you realize how important this documentary is. If you are into the idea, I really encourage you to pursue this further - maybe start small by interviewing your Grandfather's tattooed friends. This is all kinds of amazing on so many levels. We all need to see these for so many reasons.
My 84 year old grandpa has one tattoo and it's of his name, Reed. I think it's so interesting your grandpa has his name tattoo'd as well. I didn't know other elders had their name tattoo'd so it's really cool to learn that!
Awwweee, he reminds me of my grandpa who passed away 2 years ago, even though he didn't have tattoos. Just the same quiet but funny sensibility. Treasure him while he's here. ❤
Thank you so much for sharing this with us Qcknd. My father is an older veteran who was in the air force himself. He got a U.S.A.F skull tattoo when he was about 17. He hates it, but I think it's special and it was and still is a huge part of his life. It's always meant something special to me because I've been into collecting tattoos for a while now. This was an awesome video, and brought me to tears. Your grandpop seems like an amazing person.
Tbh I love any content about tattooed people who aren't young or "stereotypically alternative". Gives tattoos and the meaning behind them a whole new perspective outside of the punk/alt culture.
he's so cute! his answers were so simple. you're a good interviewer trying to get more out of him and to get the overall picture/experience he had. It would be really cool to hear a tattooed woman's experience from that generation.
Oohh I loved this so much💕 TBH I'm kinda crying. Lol. My grandpa had sleeves. One arm had good things on it like angels and saints the other had all bad things evil spirits and death. He got both arms done after his 2 sons died in the 90's. He didn't like to talk about them much so I never got a chance to ask him these questions. Thank you for sharing your grandpa with us. This is so special. he's such a lovely man. ✨
granddad Is a total boss. this video was honestly so great. it made me start thinking about people in my family with tattoos and I realized that as of right now my sister is the only one with any (and they're really tiny so..) but then I also realized that even through all of that, I have always wanted tattoos and it just gets me thinking about how family with tattoos effect younger generations
This was such a cool change of pace from the normal style of TTT! It was really neat to have the perspective from someone that got their tattoos within a very different time period and a different culture, not to mention done with different materials. I liked that you asked him what he thought of your tattoos, I've always wondered what older tattooed people think when they see my tattoos!
There's something so deeply special about grandfathers. I miss mine everyday. Thank you for sharing yours. I lost mine when I was only 19 and there's so many things I didn't ask or say. I'm glad you got to have some of your questions answered and you'll never look back and have to wonder.
As someone who loves to learn about their grandparents' history and collecting old things that were theirs or things from around the time they were children/young adults, I love the sentiment of this video. Just the fact that you're so interested in his past and relating it to you and what you love and having the capability to learn more is just a great experience.
Love, love, loved this video! 👴🏻🤘🏻 It's nice to see a positive video about tattooed older people (i.e. no regrets). Your grandfather's comment about throat tattoos made me chuckle. It's funny what random things/ideas grandparents worry about. He was so sweet to make this video with you. I love his honesty about why he got tattooed.
this man is so precious. Also, I really appreciate having elderly people on the internet sharing their experience and advice. We could learn alot from that..
It was so nice to be part of such an intimate conversation. I could really feel the respect you have for your grandfather. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️
seriously i loved this. i wish i would have sat down and talked to my grabdparents and talked about anything from their past. what a great memory. and your grandpap is adorable!
This video is so sweet. I remember loving my Poppy's tattoos and always wanting to know more about them. I wish he was still around to ask him. Cherish these precious moments.
Thank you for offering us another perspective on tattoos - having an interview with your granddad is absolutely genius . And thanks to him for accepting 😊
Oh my god! I love this video so much. I was the first person in my immediate family to get tattooed, so I never had anyone to share these stories with. I talked to my Granddad a bit about my tattoo's, but he never had any. As a woman, my family members did not like that I got tattoo's because they said it would mark me as "not marriage material". I enjoyed how much your Grandfather's experience was just like a young persons experience today. I got my first tattoo just because I wanted one.
Your grandfather sounds like a very humble man. I absolutely loved the content you created for this TTT QCKND. It just proves to people that tattoos are not just a 'trend' or a 'cool thing' to get when you are in your 20's. Thank you for this amazing work!
This is such a cute video! I love grandpa qcknd. It's so cool hearing him talk about getting tattooed "back in the day" and hearing how he only paid $5(!!) for a tattoo back then. What a cool dude
This is so great, hearing an elder talk about his tattoo's, especially since he got most in the service. Thank you grandpa QCKND and thank you QCKND :)
I think this is incredible, and I started crying early on. Just strictly because you get to document this part of your grandpa's life. And I know you'll cherish this later in life. I love it.
I love this beyond words! I'm so glad you got the chance to do this with him. He seems like such a special man. My family was pretty judgmental when I first got tattooed and the one person who appreciated them most was my grandpa. He was also in the service and had some. Wish I had gotten the chance to talk with him about. I'm rambling but this really made me happy and is one of the best videos I've ever seen on UA-cam
Aw, grandad tattoos. My grampa had tattoos from when he was in the merchant navy, and I was always fascinated by them, mostly because they were so muddy that I couldn't tell what they were!
this seriously makes me SO happy, he sounds like a super rad guy, especially to put yourself in the environment he would've been in to get those and carry the with him until now! I love that your bridging the gap between generations with tattoo talk!
i paused this earlier and when i came back to it, i realized how lovely the frame was. you're both smiling at each other - it would make a great photo!
I took an oral history class last semester to finish up my degree. We had to conduct an oral history interview for a term project and I want you to know that you did a great job here! Your grand dad seems like the sweetest badass in town. This was really well done and a joy to watch. ❤️
my grandpa was in the merchant marines, he had quite a few tattoos. he passed away when i was in high school and before i started getting tattoos. i wish i could have gotten to talk to him about his. so cool seeing this video, your grandpa is adorable and i always look forward to seeing your new weekly content :)

This has got to be one of my favorite videos of yours so far! Your Grandpa reminds me of mine who I lost a few yrs ago. I wish I had this conversation with him because I know he had at least 2, but there could have been more! He had a series of numbers that was small, I think some sort of ID number but he never explained it to me (I asked when I was an early teen) and then he had a bee that was like in a fighting stance with his fists up wearing a sailor cap on his forearm because he was a Seabee in the Navy. I have a tattoo dedicated to my Grandparents on my arm and had a bee added in for him for that reason actually. I love and miss my Grandpa so much - how awesome you got to do this!! 🖤🖤🖤
This was such an uplifting video, he seems like such a lovely guy. I'm glad to see that some elders are totally fine and supportive of their grandkids getting tattooed!
This is definitely my favorite TTT! Your granddad is awesome! He reminds me a lot of my own. I've always been curious about how older people felt about their tattoos. Thanks for shining a light onto that part of the culture! ❤❤❤❤
I really enjoyed this interview and it's such a nice thing to keep of him. Amanda, you're the reason I got colour in my tattoo... growing up I thought I would never get colour but your tattoos are BEAUTIFUL so now I have a dope classic rose and I LOVE it
dude a tattooed elders series NEEDS to happen
This^^^💯
"naah.. I was pretty tough. Even without the tattoos"
Your grandfather is awesome.
My dad got his tattoos during his time in the army. He has a knife too with his blood type and id incase something happened to him and the medics needed to give him a transfusion. The rest are naked women and tigers 😂
Nannon Thompson that one with hi blood type is called a meat tag
Arghh I was waiting for the question if he'd ever considered getting the bottle filled in today! :D But I guess not. ^^
Also my grandfather had a bunch of home made tattoos... But I never met him. :C
Katrin Berndt Omg Katrin and Amanda are my two favorite youtubers im fan girling right now!!!!!!!
VKnowles Mashups lol same
Katrin Berndt I was thinking the same thing!
Hey, Katrin watches Qcknd too? :P
Traveling with qcknd and meeting some of the fam. Things are getting kinda serious lol
Jessica E. Noonan I'm okay with it. haha. :)
he is honestly adorable aw aw
If I could add a tip about your interviewing questions... (dont kill me people)
You ask questions that are more specified as to lean him into responding in a yes or no. If you simplified it into an open ended question I feel like it would open up the conversation more. For example just How do you feel about me as a young woman getting tattooed? Instead of Does it feel weird to you that I get tattooed?
I really enjoyed this interview and I would love to see a series like this :)
Princess Cootney totally agree. I noticed that with her last interview as well.
Yep! Noticed that too.
I see what you mean, in my opinion her pops was shy in front of the camera and was already doing his best, I think she adapted the questions to make him feel more comfortable (at least that's how I think the interview evolved). Her being family makes that last question quite compromising, he doesn't want to hurt her feelings being "too honest" even less in front of the whole internet, I felt how she was protecting him (keeping it profesional and without being patronizing at all) and I loved it
ばけねこ化け猫 I agree with this too
that's a really great tip! :) just for anyone to have an open conversation
Even considering inflation grandpa spent less than $100 on all of his tattoos. That is so interesting!
Goose Dennison wouldn't it be cool if you could still barter? Or at least have it be more common?!
CorkyLG5889 a guy traded a box of gloves for a tattoo with our local artist and no he is not a random scratcher
thank you so much Goose for doing that math, I was totally thinking $5 in 1954 was a lot more than $5 is now and prob pretty comp to today's price for that size tat =)

Such a great addition to TTT. He's so precious.
Quiet cool grandad! Coolness runs in the qcknd family
I often wonder how our "good tattoos" with more refined practices are going to age.
'Why did you get the tattoo?' 'Because I wanted a tattoo' if I were to say this now people would think I'm crazy
I have recently lost my grandpa and seeing this left such a great wonderful impact on me. Thanks you for doing this. quiet cool grandpa NO DOUBT!!! He's precious Amanda, i love him. You guys are adorable! Get them matching tatsss
really appreciate the increased amount of videos these days, thank you for your effort, they're awesome (as per usual) :)
Your grandfather is so cute, thank you for sharing Qcknd ❤️✨
I have been TOO stoked for this video!!! 😍
Also, you guys interact in the cutest way! 💕

Nothing but love for this video

Those berry tattoos though, your grandpa is a badass Amanda!

Seems like a cool man :) thanks for sharing your grandpop with us
he's so adorable. bless him.
so cool that you're communicating with your grandpa. i couldn't ask my grandparents personal questions
I love this! Your interview-type content is my favourite. Your videos explore tattoo culture with such a broad perspective.
granddad Is a total boss. this video was honestly so great. it made me start thinking about people in my family with tattoos and I realized that as of right now my sister is the only one with any (and they're really tiny so..) but then I also realized that even through all of that, I have always wanted tattoos and it just gets me thinking about how family with tattoos effect younger generations
Home sick with the flu and I've been waiting for this all morning!
Thank you for making a video with such a cool take/angle on tattoos! I always love hearing from older generations!

crazy how much the tattoo culture has changed!
Quiet Cool Grandpop is so sweet ☺ Love the idea that of getting a matching tattoo with him!
this is so precious, I wish I had the opportunity to ask my Opa about his service tattoos before he passed. thanks for sharing this with us! 💕

It would be a great series to talk to more tattooed elders. Your Grandpop is lovely!

What an adorable interview!!! your grandfather is so adorable!!!
this man is so precious. Also, I really appreciate having elderly people on the internet sharing their experience and advice. We could learn alot from that..
Do more elders tattoos videos. It is so interesting to hear about your different experiences
It was so nice to be part of such an intimate conversation. I could really feel the respect you have for your grandfather. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️
super cool interview. i wish the older people in my life were as relaxed about tattoos
seriously i loved this. i wish i would have sat down and talked to my grabdparents and talked about anything from their past. what a great memory. and your grandpap is adorable!
Come for the tattoos, stay for the cute grandpa
This video is so sweet. I remember loving my Poppy's tattoos and always wanting to know more about them. I wish he was still around to ask him. Cherish these precious moments.
Your grandpa is amazing- he's so funny! You're so lucky to have a good relationship with him

This is so nice. I am literally crying. My grandpa passed away 2 years ago, but I still miss him.
This is so sweet. What a bad ass grandfather you have :')
Aw, grandad tattoos. My grampa had tattoos from when he was in the merchant navy, and I was always fascinated by them, mostly because they were so muddy that I couldn't tell what they were!
Seriously the cutest!!!! I loved hearing the realness about how his tattoos were done.

Best episode ever!!! I miss my grandfather and wish I could sit down with him now and talk to him. Cherish this moment forever, Qcknd! ❤❤❤
Why is everyone's grandpa so damn cute? My grandpa is probably the strictest, grumpiest grandpa ever
Your grandpa is so cute. You are lucky to have your grandparents here with you, I hope you know that. Cherish every moment with them while you can. Awesome video
This is the cutest and sweetest thing I’ve ever seen.
He is so cute! Loved to hear his experience.
I got a bit teary because I lost my grandad last year and he was my best friend, I am getting a tattoo done for his memory for my birthday. I really enjoyed his perspective and I hope you continue to interview people with tattoos from different backgrounds, we all hear and see young people with tattoos but people get them for different reasons like cancer survivors and people in the service so I hope you branch out and do that. This was such a pleasure to watch, thank you for sharing your Grandfather's tattoo stories. Those pictures of you as a young child were so heart warming as well.
QCKND I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED THIS. you interviewed so naturally! and your grandfather is precious I loved hearing about his experiences
Your grandpop stole my heart! He's so cute! 😍😍😍
I watch these videos in order to be educated about the tattoo culture and to prepare myself for any future tattoos I may get. I love this series, it's truly amazing and I love seeing so many aspects of tattooed life.
my grandad was in the navy from the age of 14 (I never knew him but we have loads of photos of him) I just asked my mum if he ever got tattooed and was so shocked to find out he never, when I think of that generation and the service I always imagine servicemen having at least one tattoo and my reaction was just like 😰
Tell your Grandpa we viewers thank him for his proud years of service!
I loved hearing your grandfather's stories!! My dad told me after I got my first tattoo that my grandfather had a tattoo on his arm that he got when he was in the service.
What a lovely grandfather you have!
What a precious video! Thank you for sharing that with us. Thank you to your grandfather for his service and sharing his tattoos with us. Conversations with grandparents are the best and should be cherished forever.
your grandfather is so sweet! I think it's really great that you did this.
Amanda, you're the reason I got colour in my tattoo... growing up I thought I would never get colour but your tattoos are BEAUTIFUL so now I have a dope classic rose and I LOVE it
your grandfather is so cool!!! just casually killed a snake and got a tattoo of it no big deal
