Just a heads up, the ACC sensor is behind the VW emblem on the front, not behind the window. The sensors you pointed to in the video are the LDWS (lane departure warning sensor, triangle shaped), and the rain sensor.
Type R is definitely a collectible car, and keep in mind the great build quality from Honda and the best stick shift in the business my friend! Both great cars at the end of the day.
I'm waiting to trade in my mk7.5 GTI for a mk8.5 R. I love the performance of the 8 but that infotainment is a deal breaker. But the mk8 with a stage 2 tune is a monster at nearly 460whp with the stock Continental turbo. Manual in my GTI is okay but coming from Hondas, not great. I feel like the Golf R personality fits the DSG more like a German GTR.
I think you’re right on some things, but specifically regarding the MK8 GTI/R, I don’t see this gen going up in value like crazy like you think. It’s been the lowest selling Golf R compared to the MK7/7.5 gen’s. And when the MK8.5 gen is available, people are going to quickly forget about the MK8 because of its trash interior. Yeah yeah yeah, most users say it’s not an issue, but it is an issue to those who HAVEN’T bought it, which is a much higher majority. As far as the MK7/7.5 gen’s and the 6spd’s, I have been saying for years to hold on to any manual car if you can because they will eventually go up in value exponentially, especially when boomers and millennial’s become 60+ years old and have money to collect cars. Most of them have grown up at least driving one manual in their lifetime, and they are the ones that truly appreciate what a manual car offers. So when they’re all gone, they will spend big money for one.
That's a whole lot of assumptions underlying those forecasts. 'exponentially' come on man, stop it, it might appreciate in a more gradual line. I am with you on the MK7/7.5 (being desirable as well). As well as the part of people wanting to move on from the MK8 and waiting for the MK8.5.
@ericcarson342 Yeah don't look at your car like some appreciating asset, the S&P 500 is right there if you want to actually make some money in the coming decades. Plenty of special edition garage queen cars that barely sell over their original sticker when they hit the auction block decades later. Drive the car and enjoy it, you'll be happier than locking it away in the hopes of making a bit of cash off it one day.

Where did u get the spare tire frm ? I'm not sure if ur aware of one of the features that car has i have mine activated where u walk up to the car and it automatically unlocks without touching the door

This is a tough one, because referring specifically to the Golf R, the MK7.5 was great. Took all the great things from the MK7 and just became a little better stylistically. The MK8 has an interior that isn’t going to age well, which is its biggest downfall, while the MK7/7.5’s interior is just plain amazing in every regard. What the MK8 Golf R has over the MK7/7.5 though it’s its RWD biased AWD system. It’s so much better than the FWD biased AWD system in the MK7.5 and all previous gen R’s. That alone makes the MK8 so much funner to drive. So it’s a hit and miss with this one.
I felt the same way when I owned an MK7.5 R, but now that I own an MK8 R, I've warmed up to the newer one. It objectively drives better in just about every way which is hard to ignore. Also the iQ headlights when you get the euro lighting functionality unlocked are a game changer at night.
What about carbon build up on these direct injection engines! Also, once the warranty is gone they cost as much as a BMW or Mercedes to get worked on! My 2.0 turbo had 23,000 miles on it but it was past warranty and the thermostat went bad and it cost me over $1,300.to get replaced!!!!!!!!!! Then at 24,500 miles the 02 sensor went bad and cost $568.00 to get repaired! These engines are JUNK!!!!!!!
2025 Golf R will have more stock power and better software for the info system, plus other updates making the 2025 a BETTER car than the 2024 but still will have carbon build up problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUNK ENGINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah man the repairs on all German cars are SUPER expensive.
