I'm from the US and studied abroad at JCU when I was in college...I miss that place so much! Could have easily seen myself there for my entire college career honestly
Woah thank you so much, Im from Canada and was considering this university for marine biology! Love the video and love the way you made it, really inspiring!
Thank you so much for this video! I’m planning on moving over from Cairns in a few years to study veterinary science, since the JCU in cairns doesn’t offer it. It’s an 8 year thing, so just really trying to make sure it’d be somewhere I’d want to semi-move to for that time. Not particularly fond of the dryness compared to our rainforest, but you gotta do what you gotta do 😂
Fair enough Zoe. There are other good vet science programs in Oz if you want to look further afield than JCU. Like Vet science at CQU Rockhampton (also dry though) or animal ecology at Sunshine Coast near Maroochydoore (plenty of lovely bush and ocean around here!)
Im currently doing my bachelors of marine sc and I adore this uni but the town itself sucks so bad haha 😂, if you’re from a big city, you will probably suffer over here since not even public transport is reliable, having a car makes the experience 100% better
Yeah I think that's a fair comment. Townsville is relatively small. Anyone from a big city, and particularly international students from large cities overseas, might be a bit shocked that everything is closed pretty early!
Really enthusiasted with your energy throughout the video! I am an incoming student for Marine Biology Masters degree from Indonesia, and cant wait to experience life in Townsville. One note tho, is the City and Campus Motorbike/motorcycle friendly? It will be helpful since I am trying to get my Car driving license here and I'm still half-hearted for it
Thank you! I really like the Townsville Campus. It has evolved a LOT since my first visit over 10 years ago. Townsville has many opportunities too - it's quite a big place.
Murdoch, Flinder, Curtin is just one word. Why is one word more attractive in the name of a university, such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or Columbia?, because it is more marketable and easier to remember.
Hey! I am an international student from the USA and I’m trying to decide between the University of Melbourne and JCU. I want to go into Marine studies but I’m worried about international student housing/loans, transportation and career opportunities after graduation. Which school would you recommend? Thanks so much your videos are super helpful!!
@@ChoosingYourUni I appreciate the feedback! I was looking more into the enrollment process and at JCU it looks like I could qualify for their international student scholarship so this school is definitely my number 1.
Hi Rob! What universities would you recommend looking at for environmental management/climate change/geography in Australia? Need some help narrowing down places in NSW. Thank you!
So many good options for that. It’s an incredibly broad field and every uni has strengths. Climate is great at UNSW, Natural Hazards at Macquarie. Do you have anything you’re specifically interested in or are you keen to start general and find something you really like once you get into it?
@@ChoosingYourUni the plan is to start out with something general and pick a field :) Just wanted to say, your Uni review playlist is really well made and incredibly reassuring as an international student. Thank you so much Rob!
You’re welcome mate and I think your approach is good. Realistically, you’ll find good generic introductions to environment topics at all the major unis. I did that at Macquarie and loved it. USYD and UNSW also have great programs, as does UTS. That’s if you want to be in Sydney. If you’re interested in an experience outside a huge city, you could also consider Wollongong and Newcastle. Both have good enviro programs ans beautiful natural environments to boot. They are close to the beach, cheaper than Sydney but still within a couple of hours if you want to head it.
Hey I am planning to apply for the mph/mba dual degree at jcu. how is it in terms of jobs and also part time for international students because I am a little nervous
Normal to be nervous. Heaps of casual work around at the moment, particularly in regional cities. And those advanced degrees are always a good investment over the long term 👍
@@ChoosingYourUni okay, thank you...can you please tell me about weather of there and also best area for live in Australia, like i don't like too much hot , i want to live little cold places, how is Townsville for whole year. I am sinusitis pateint so too much hot is not good for me. Can you tell me?
I was there on weekend and apart from the new building you showed and the one under construction the place was a mess. The ring road is very poor condition, western campus is bored up, the engineering buildings I studied in in mid 90s and were very old then are still the same, the old student accommodation that was a disgrace 30 years ago is still the same. Half the campus needs to be demolished. The tennis courts were in an unusable condition, I am embarrassed to say I went there.
An interesting perspective. My first visit to JCU Townsville was in 2005. On my last visit I thought the place was looking a hell of a lot better than back then. But then again, you only get to see so much when you’re around for a day or two. You’ve obviously spent a lot of time on campus and can really see how things have evolved across the board. It’s one of the challenges for the regional unis: capital works are expensive. They don’t have the big budgets like the mega city unis in Sydney and Melbourne. I’d love to think that Govts would chip in more, but that’s been a losing battle across both sides of politics, and both state and federal, for quite awhile now…
I am applying in JCU, which one is better for me Like Brisbane, Townsville or cairns campus? I am from India. And how is the temperature for whole year of Townsville
What degree mate? Temperature - Brisbane is very nice year round. Townsville is nice April through October and can be pretty hot from November to March. Cairns is warm and humid year round. Hot from October to March.

You’re welcome! Would love it if you could tell someone about the channel 🙂
hey mate will you be doing any of the WA unis on your road trip? Great videos as usual.
I've already done initial reviews of all the WA unis (you can find them on the Uni Reviews playlist). I'll update those next year, most likely.

Great choice of uni and degree.
Can you please do University of Wollongong? I know they are one of the top unis in Australia
Yep. It’s on the list. Each time I’ve planned to go there there’s been a lockdown! I’ll hopefully have one up early next year.

Not sure about the program but JCU is a great uni that serves its community well. Electrical engineering skills will be in demand in North Queensland

Is jcu a good option for engineering studies? Plus i am considering jcu as an international student so are there casual work opportunities there?
Yep, a very good choice. There’s still quite a lot of work around at time of writing.
I want to pursue bcom in Townsville.are there enough jobs and is the campus diverse in ethnicity ?
Plenty of work all over Australia right now. Townsville is the largest and most diverse of all the JCU campuses

Not sure about that degree at JCU but HEAPS of work available in aged care.
Which is the best university for masters in social work
Tonnes of good unis for that - see if you can narrow your choice down a bit and I can help with a more specific question.
