    Awesome shooting and information James! Exactly why I purchased a pocket scale which measures 0.001g x 50g. The 0.001g is needed to get tenths of a grain. You can pick one up for only $15 to $25.

      The pocket scale would be a good idea. Weighing the pellets on your beam scale as you were doing will inherently give you skewed and incorrect results. It would of been better to of placed them one at a time on their bases standing up in as close to the center of the powder tray as possible.

    That’s kinda disappointing. The 18s work so well. Maybe you can tune them in. Try your old Chief. If they don’t shoot well in that, it’s a problem. (and get yourself a little electronic scale that measures in grains. They’re great for weighing pellets. Pretty cheap now also.) Good vid ref.👍

    I got a really decent scale at my local smoke shop that weighs XXX.XX grams and XX.X grains for $11 dollars. The brand of scale is called ".01" (in 80s computer letters).
    I was surprised how inconsistent pellets of all different brands have varied so far out of one's I actually tested. Some brands definitely better than others, but all had variance. I've had different "batches" of the same brand and type of pellet that were better than others. I can't see any real pattern you just have to take the time and do a little testing if you want consistent ammo.
    I'd bet they're close during actual production, but when packaged it seems that they're mixing different pellets off different machines from different days, etc. I'd be willing to pay a couple more dollars per tin for pellets of much closer weight and diameter specs. I'm not sure it would be profitable for companies to go this far to maintain that consistency for us though.

      I need to get a digital scale, I tested the Barracuda 18s and CHP 14.3gr also and the variance was only +.1gr ...not as bad Barracuda 15 which was only the velocity issue here, the precision was because the pellet bearing surface , head and skirt length apart, was to long for the rifling...these Barracuda 15s are longer than the 18s, the Avenger barrel was to slow for them @22:46

    Thanks James..yea I wasn't impressed with the barracuda 18s either..my avenger loves those fx 1589s..1813s..and the 25.4s...but it likes those regular barracudas...who knows...I'm just trying to find the perfect slug speed for accuracy.

    My Avenger .22 always at the first shot(after staying a few hours) is lower on power, with no modification in the gauge reg pressure. I think it has something to do with the air after the reg, in the plenum. After that is pellet on pellet...

    • @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS
      @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS  2 роки тому +1

      Only trick at the moment I know of is you need to dry fire to reset the reg because of the plenum volume/temperature is different

    Hello my friend, I have a problem with POI changes on my Avenger, I have checked screws, scope is new, I left the pipe floating and my Avenger seems to change the POI.
    The last time I regulated it in the morning, in the afternoon I went to shoot and the shot went up almost 2 inches and another 1 inch to the left.
    I always wanted to use stickers on the scope but every time I need to readjust the gun...
    Do you have any tips?
    Ah, I also notice a 100 psi difference in the regulator's work from when the gun is fully full to when it's half loaded, for example...
    If I fill it at 4,350 psi the reg is at 2500/2550 psi... When the cylinder drops to about 3000 psi more or less in the regulator I get 2400/2450 psi. And if it is at 2600 psi for example the regulator stays at 2350 psi.... But the shooting speed remains the same!

    Did you have any poi shift with your avenger? If so how did you fix it?

    • @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS
      @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS  2 роки тому

      no I never had a poi shift issue, only issue I ever had was first shot flier which the gun needs dry fired few times to reset the regulator after fresh fill or cooled off due to the warm air from a handpump or compressor ...I use a bottle to fill to negate this effect

    I've never sorted pellets other than to get rid of an obviously bad one. I'm just too lazy. I will clean and lube them with your pellet snot recipe though. Good enough for what I do. Thanks James.
