- Kaidale LOVED his first summer camp. This was an incredible experience for him and one that I am sure he will never forget. I am so grateful that he got this opportunity to go to camp I am special.
I worked at a special needs camp in Akron Ohio this summer, as part of camp America. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’m going back again next year. It’s amazing helping special needs kids live the dream summer experience

We love Camp I Am Special ❤️. My daughter has been a camper since 2014, I have served dinners and lunch with a great group of ladies, helped in the office, our family has tended the Mary Garden for several years, my older son is a buddy, and my other daughter is a future buddy! Lots of changes happened because of Covid, but that can’t stop the spirit of camp! I got to see G and the other support staff hard at work…so thankful they dedicated so much of their time and talents this year. 😊

The staff chanting Kaidale as you pulled up was so cool! I'm glad Kaidale enjoyed camp even though he had a tough time waiting for you. Ice cream really does fix everything though! 🍦
Yes I agree, it was so thoughtful for them to do that everyday.

Love that Kaidale loved Camp I Am Special. It seems like it's an amazing, awesome, special place. Never knew about it until #Fatheringautism started showing it with Abbie. It shows incredibly inspirational volunteers & the relationships with all the campers.

I live in small town Iowa and the nearest special needs camp is 4 hours from me which is a bummer but greyson really doesn't like to go with people he doesn't know for very long. Kidale crying hurt me heart ❤️ but I'm glad he had fun

Yes I agree. Sometimes I feel so guilty having to focus my attention on work and not him. It was nice knowing he was having a blast while I worked.

My James goes to summer camp which is through our City. This one is specifically for special needs children. We love it ,he goes for the entire summer, they are so good w him and keep it fun. I am so glad to see you so proud, you should be bc he is wonderful and you are too!!!
Kaitlin I thought he was upset because Kaidale wanted to stay at camp. I loved the look he gave you when you passed the ice cream to him.
He did have a lot of fun but they said he was more so upset if not being able to get in my car when he saw amongst the pick up line.

So glad he enjoyed camp. My son will be old enough to start going to camp in our town next Summer. He was old enough for surf camp this Summer but his elopement behaviors are still too much of a concern for me.
Yes I can relate to those fears. If it wasn’t for personally knowing many of the staff members, I don’t know if I would have been able to do it either.
Will he still be a day camper if he does attend next year or will overnights be an option. You both seem to be riding this great wave over the past couple months, so much to celebrate!

Camp is Soo much fun, every kid should experience it. Glad there's a camp that meets his needs. It's great he had a blast! Does the camp encourage kids to interact, or they just all hang out with their designated buddies.
It was mostly exclusively group activities which was great. Kaidale made lots of friends.

What a great experience! You had mentioned wherever you are in your travels you'll come back next summer so it got me to thinking....With your last video you mentioned him being home sick and asking/obsessing for big guy's house, do you anticipate him obsessing over big guy's house while traveling or did it have to do with being in one place for too long? Love your content and seeing your sweet boy just mastering the obstacles of life.
Yes I do expect for him to probably obsess on big guys house while we are traveling. However, my parents are also thinking about making a change in the near future and possibly relocating closer to where my siblings live. Not sure if it will happen or not, but I figured this will allow him to get some distance and start to adjust to spending time away from big guys house.

I’m so glad he had fun! As an anxious mom, what a nice little relief to know that G was there “just in case”. I think that Camp I Am Special is such an awesome program. He’s growing up so much. Proud of BOTH of you. That’s a huge thing for both of you.
Thank you! It was such a good experience all around. This year they were only offering day camp, which I was more than happy with. I couldn’t imagine him being away for a whole week.
Now that you did the day camp would you send him to the sleep away version of camp I am special next year??
I’m not sure about overnight camp. It seems like a lot for him to be gone that long, but I told G if he’s still there next year I would consider it.
