I've gotten both lucky and unlucky trying to get the right Transfigured Gem from Lab. Buying your Gem on trade may be the best way to go, unless it is really sort after early (Lacerate of Haemorrhage, Ground Slam of Earthshaking among others).

Yeah I'd rather not play the game at all before I start running more Labs than the bare minimum. 4 runs are already 5 more than what I want to do.

Lol good catch. I've been doing this ever since the lab change. You get soo much power early on. Those who say lab is boring are just bad at the game lol Doesn't take that many runs nor does it take too much time per run, if you're not terrible at the game that is
