    • @clementkirton
      @clementkirton 8 років тому +24

      LinusTechTips thats fine if you mention the price but not to afferct the review i personaly never buy a phone unlocked and if i have to pay $2 more a month for g5 vs this its not that big deel but if i watches both the reviews it felt like the one phone is bad and this one is good.. Just saying it feels like ypu were super harsh on g5

    • @xeryan2747

      build quality of g5 does worth the price imo

    • @chris195868
      @chris195868 8 років тому +39

      Outside the US, there are many more who buy unlocked phones, so there the price matters. If I was looking at a new phone, I would either consider the OnePlus 3 for it's features at that price point, or step up to the Galaxy S7 because having a waterproof phone is amazing. The G5 seems like a phone that does pretty much what the OnePlus 3 does, but at a much higher price, hence the negative review.

    Why the hell do developers think a thinner phone is better? Id rather a thicker phone that's fits snugly in our roundish hands and also has way longer battery life, I really hate recharging my phone every single day.

    • @shafiqsaini
      @shafiqsaini 8 років тому +9

      North Southy yeah, I never really understood it, there was this one point of time in my life where I used an extended battery from zero lemon and it actually doubled the thickness of my LG G Pro but I didn't really care because I had 3 days of battery life.

    • @joepbailey

    • @andrefael
      @andrefael 8 років тому +2

      1(oneplus1) + 1(onplus 2) + 1(oneplus x) = 3 (oneplus 3)
      So they know how to count.
      And if you know this is sill just calculate the x and it will be 2.5.
      OnePlus One
      One Plus Two
      One Plus X = One Plus Two And a Half
      One Plus Three
      SO this proves my point, one plus can count.

    Keep the full HD screen formula. This will make them winner in future. Why waste battery which is clearly significant for regular life for something which doesn't matter and not observable like QHD screen and drains battery like crazy in daylight.

    • @HendrikSchulke
      @HendrikSchulke 7 років тому +3

      Jamie Carranza In order to do that, you'd have to swap the whole display. It's just not possible to change between FullHD and WQHD by changing a setting in the software.

    • @jamiecarranza8847
      @jamiecarranza8847 7 років тому

    • @SumanNath25
      @SumanNath25 7 років тому +7

      Jamie Carranza Doesn't matter! Still you will be using all pixels and power consumption will remain same for the screen. Yes with reduced resolution your processor and graphics will be having less workload and it shall reduce some amount of power consumption overall but again what is the point paying for QHD screen and then use reduced resolution to save battery !!! Ridiculous.

      You can't compare PC hardware to mobile hardware.
      First of all, most phone CPU-s use a completely different architecture (RISC as opposed to CISC - two completely different approaches to CPU construction). RISC CPU-s take very little power and can be extremely fast, but they do very little with each clock cycle... whereas CISC CPU-s (x86(-64) CPU-s are essentially CISC architecture) do a fuck ton of work with each clock cycle but draw more power (heat up more) and are usually a bit slower.
      Similarly, currently most widely used phone RAM is about 2 times slower to react than a mid-tier DDR3 PC RAM. That is because phone RAM uses a lot more insulated capacitors meaning they do not have to be refreshed as often (they take a lot less power) but at the same time it takes longer for the capacitors to load the data bus to necessary levels.
      So no, that phone is not more powerful than your laptop... at least not in most workloads.

    Let me tell you this phone is great BUT seriously lacking in few things if fixed by OP4 it will be a god a phone that can truly rival all.First of all they skimped the battery and certain hardwares to make this phone super light and super thin. They can easily add more battery into this phone which could decrease the camera hump and would only make it slightly heavier and thicker and we had no problems with that on the oneplus one. Do not try to skimp give us a big juice battery. i'd also like to see better camera MP doesn't mean everything although it's great for pictures it still doesn't compare in low light or video to other phones. I'd like to see expandable storage which they could easily add given the space they would need for the battery. And i'd like to see front facing speakers. Tl:dr - bigger battery/expandable storage/better camera.

    They had me until the lack of an expansion slot. It's a shame that there's really no company out there that's consistently hitting all the beats. They hit a few on one device and then they hit a different few on another. We do not live in a world where streaming on mobile is particularly reliable, free, or even very cost effective. Having flexible storage options is vital for anyone with a lot of music, takes lots of pictures or video, or even those who play games.
    I have a Moto X Play, which I chose for the SD slot and killer battery, but it sadly lacks a gyroscope and has a middling chipset. This means it's not great for compass and navigation (it thinks I turn corners long before I've actually started to turn the car) and it's also not viable for cardboard VR because it doesn't correctly track orientation. But I still appreciate the phone for what it is, a device that doesn't fuss about extreme thinness (which is a waste of time anyway) or high resolution super dense screens (how close do you really need to be to the phone?), and runs stock android at a reasonable price.
    One Plus has always had my attention, but they're moving more and more into the mee2-Samsung-space. I don't give a damn about the thinness below 10mm, I don't give a damn how big the base storage is (I want expansions dammit!), and I don't care for anything bigger than 5" because I want a one handed device! But on the flip side, the customizable system buttons are something Android sorely lacks, I actually prefer the left side volume buttons because you can easily find them in the dark (rather than thumbing the power button while looking for volume. MOTO!! If you don't brace the phone with your thumb, but use your palm instead this setup is far better), and the quick launch camera is super nice to see (the moto is pretty pokey...). My biggest gripe though is the storage thing. Why do all of these companies have to be so intent on pushing either streaming services, or super pricey internal flash storage? I now the internal storage is faster than SD, but that's irrelevant when it's used for music and pictures. One Plus doesn;t even get a lot out of it, because they don't run any streaming music services or anything. They hae no good reason not to accomodate an expansion slot. And yes, if they means the phone has to be a little fatter SO WHAT!? Why does it need to be 7 frickin mm?

      You should look into the ASUS Zenfone series. www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=7454&idPhone2=6917&idPhone3=8106 the middle phone is the one I am currently using, just because I love it(only major complaints, it noticeably slows down when RAM gets below 800MB, heats up while charging, and there is no replaceable battery which are all things I can tolerate coming from the God awful LG F60) if you don't trust links on the internet, as no one should, just go to GSMarena(or the like) and compare your phone to the ASUS Zenfone 3 and OnePlus 3, as I don't think the Zenfone 2 would be much of an upgrade from yours, and I honestly wouldn't suggest buying it since it wouldn't be a big enough upgrade. P.S. I should note that my Zenfone is not my main "picture taker", I have a Nikon DSLR for that, and if I am not mistaken I don't think the Zenfone 3 is on sale yet.

      "the review is of the phone, so why do you even care if it has a skin or not" So that you know what the phone ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE. just saying, i agree with everything else you said.

      ^exactly my point, i don't care about the skin, i care about the phone which i cant even fucking see.
      Work up the clauses with dbrand and remove that clause of covering up the phone throughout the review. Dont let them use you, your review style tbh is one of the best out there.

      You might, if you wanted to use it to store movies to watch, or as a portable DAC over OTG as a Music player, you could totally use up 64GB.

    • @nashMuko
      @nashMuko 8 років тому +3

      Yes. Some of us do need more space.
      For example, if you take lots of photos in RAW and videos in 4K, you'll burn into 64GB in a couple of months. And if you install huge games or like to store offline content like FHD movies and lossless music, you really won't get far without a 200GB microSD card for example.
      We all use our smartphones in different ways, so choice and expandability is a huge must.

    Linus, a correction needs to be made in the video. In the quick rundown of some of the specs, you stated that the front camera is 16 megapixels, which is not correct. It's 8MP. The rear camera is the one with 16 megapixels. I personally found it odd to highlight the front camera, since you already did it once, and I found the megapixel count oddly high with the front camera, and therefore questioned it. Looking at the specs reveals the above information.

    Aside from everyone making references to Linus comfortably holding 5.5" in his hand, has anyone used the phone? I bought it, been using it for about a week now and I really like it. In the HTC 10 review Linus points out that users should be able to define custom gestures, with their relative actions to execute, which I couldn't agree with more. I like the existing gestures on the OnePlus 3, they feel very intuitive but I would like to have the option of having the ability to add more.

  • @dirigible80085

    You can get the OP3 for 400€ and the G5 for 430€ at the moment where I live. What do you reckon? I am pretty interested in the wide camera of the G5 and it is a bit smaller, also other reviews didn't trash the lowlight performance like you did. On the other side the OP3 seems to have a less awkward beta product build quality and the developer/ROM support seems to be way better with Oneplus devices.

    Linus you didn't just say that top mounted jack is better.
    Bottom configuration is better because while taking the phone out of your pocket you can simultaneously unlock the phone (using the "capacitive keys" you hate so much) and start using it without spinning my phone while the headphone wire is hanging out from it.

    that night mode increases battey by alot because since the screen is amoled when alot of the screen is black the pixels turn off so its like basically not using the screen at all to the phone increasing battery life well unless your watching a crap ton of videos.
