First SOLO in a CESSNA 172 !!! | Cessna 172R Skyhawk

- After a successful check-out with my instructor a week earlier, it was now time for my first solo in the Cessna 172R Skyhawk, based at Lelystad Airport (EHLE). After 80 logged hours on the Tecnam Sierra it feels like I'm in school again while learning the ropes of the C172.
To respect safety and personal limits, I kept the flight relatively short and simple, focussing on the basics, C172 procedures and local operations, further no distractions from passengers. I'll most likely keep it like that for the next flights, until I feel more acquainted and comfortable with the C172.
Again, the POV video proves to be a very valuable tool for me to self-evaluate and improve my skills, since I already have picked-out some tiny mistakes and overlapses here and there, with my biggest "rookie fail" for you to laugh at: I flooded the engine on my first try... Surely, this is not going to happen to me again anytime soon !!! :).

Just a tip when it comes to starting the C172 R/S Series, when you're priming, make sure the throttle is cracked enough, and then to avoid overflooding the engine, make sure the second you put on the Auxillary fuel pump, that you immediately put the mixture full rich for like 5 seconds max and then pull the mixture out and immedieately shut off the fuel pump switch. And then when you are engaging with the starter, don't play around with the mixture and trying to enriched it before the engine actually catches.
Indeed, you are right sir, especially about that last part. These days I'm actually waiting for the engine to catch first, before the mixture comes in. Also I'm holding the starter a bit longer in this process. Meanwhile, I'm also flying the older 172M (non-fuel injected), which I think is somehow easier to start.
Mooi toestel!
ooohhhhh.... memories......
Cessna 172 Sp is best.
Mooie video in een prachtige kist! Puur nieuwsgierigheid; wat heeft je voorkeur? Cessna of Tecnam?
Thanks!
@@PilotNando leuk man!
Hey, I’m going to start training for my ppl in about 3 years. I’m wondering if it’s worth training with the Tecnam or the Cessna? Are they a big price difference or is the Cessna a good option to start at Hilversum. (I want to do the Cessna most. But 12-14 thousand euros is the max I can spend) so would you recommend the tecnam or the Cessna? I’ll be cutting costs since I have 2000 hours in my flight simulator
Both are worth it in my opinion. Cessna 172 hourly rate is indeed a bit more expensive compared to the Tecnam Sierra. If your budget is only 12-14 thousand, then I would recommend a LAPL instead of PPL.
@@PilotNando alright thank you for the info!
