jjOive I don't know about the rest of Europe, but in Spain it's like that. Those places are European, Ceuta and Melilla were even part of Andalusia in the past. Being geographically in Africa doesn't mean anything. If you are from a country part of the European Union you can freely go to the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla as they are politically Europe.
jjOive Btw, those regions are 100% part of Spain and treated equally to the rest of the country. They are not like Gibraltar and French Guiana for the UK and France.

In Europe, Belgium and the Netherlands have some weird stuff too like Dutch enclaves within Belgian enclaves (counter-enclaves). Generally, Belgium borders with its neighbor are a mess with a lot of enclaves/exclaves.
The pretty large Constance lake (3rd largest in Europe) is the border the border of Austria, Switzerland and Germany but nobody ever bothered to determine in which country you are when you are in the lake. Switzerland says the border is in the middle, Austria says its a condominium (the lake is the 3 countries territory), Germany is silent. There are a lot of enclaves/exclaves in/out of Germany and Switzerland also with other neighbors (France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands).
The UK presence in Cyprus where an British overseas territory on Cyprus has an electric plant in it that is on Cyprus territory is pretty insolite too.
The Croatian/Serbian border is still problematic and can be seen with Liberland claiming its sovereignty and the Croatian police intervene on the Danube to remove those people as Serbia is enclined to encourage Liberland existence. Generally, borders dispute in the Balkan are frequent and unsolved to this day. (Bosnia, Slovenia, Serbia, Kosovo).

And so remained until Portugal had a Spanish born king. Llívia was not excluded from the treaty for the reason that you say in the vid, it is excluded because the treaty said that all towns and citys would be part of France, but Llívia is different, it is a thing that in Spain we call Villa, which is not the same, and as the treaty did not include this it remained as Spain. Yes, the video is very flawed. It talks about Spain conquering Ceuta and forgets how that really went.
@@TheAllMightyGodofCod yeah, that was the portuguese
Guys, I am from Ceuta. Most of the population here is Moroccian (Almost 80% percent) and almost everyone here prefer it to remain spanish. The big deal is that being this way, moroccians have the chance to have their sons born in the EU, in case they want to migrate to spain or any other country in Europe.
And historycally speaking, Ceuta is the ONLY city in the whole of Spain which was given the opportunity to choose being spanish or not (Long ago), and we chose Spain.
So, lots of people here talking about what should be the right thing to do around here... having no idea. If you ever go to Morocco (which is one of the coolest countries ever), pass by Ceuta for a little. It's really awesome here :)
Hugs.
Daniel Moriarty Yeah that's true, most of the moroccans residing in Tetuan and Ceuta's surroundings prefer Ceuta to remain a Spanish city because they easily import many merchandise, and they're living from it
Daniel Moriarty what do you think about Gibraltar being British?. It's a very similar position to what you have in Ceuta. The Spanish want Gibraltar back even thow they have similar bigger territories in North Africa.
The people in Gibraltar are of 95% Spanish origin, and have also had a referendum, and they voted 99% to remain British.
I find it very strange and double standard of how Spain wants Gibraltar back, but is unwilling to give up its territories in North Africa or share sovereignty, even if that was against the will of the people of Ceuta and the others, but yet they expect at the very least shared sovereignty with Gibraltar, it's a bit hypocritical of Spain and have no moral authority on this issue.
You can't compare because historically ceuta and melilla (and much more in tjat coast) were part of spanish mainland even being a see beetwen those two lands (in the same way USA is still being USA at both sides of the 3 graeat lakes or florida).that IS BECAUSE Spain african mainland existed MUCH BEFORE the creation of Moroco, so in this case is not a "giving back aland to a country" as would be in the case of Gibraltar....here is no one to give somerhing back because was always spanish...would be a gift...what is not acceptable politically, hiatoricallyand culturally, in the same way that you cant divide Greece in several countries just because the mainland is aeparated by the Egeius Sea.
Those lands in africa where to ensure and protect the merchant ship dlow of all europe through this small point from african bereberian piracy. Those pirates where the only inhabitants of this land beforethe creation of a properly country as is Moroco. And we are talking about centuries and centuries
Transversal Eating goddammit, whenever there is a discussion about Sebta I have to hear the same stupid argument that Morocco didn't exist. BITCHES!! MOROCCO WAS FOUNDED IN THE 8th CENTURY. You ask people to read history, I suggest you do the same thing. Here where to begin:

(In case you are lazy, just read the 3rd paragraph)
jorge tortosa then please enlighten me of what is not bullshit
You should look at the border of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire (counties in England)..in terms of the town of Newmarket
I remember when this video came out. I had gotten out of work and was doing laundry.
3:44 Gibraltar remains in the Schengen area.
That means that an EU citizen can cross the border between Spain and Gibraltar with an identity card.
In most European countries you have to have an identity card with you.
However, between the EU and the UK you need a passport and other documents.
Interesting, Gibraltar remains freely accessible for citizens of the UK.
The same should be done with Northern Ireland, where the EU and GB have the second land border.
@@Shadow-rw3ze Thats only your opinion, but the reality is, it's an overseas territory of the UK, it's facts, you can still have your opinion, but the facts are facts.
@@KompridiCR its just a classic Spanish joke, for us, a rock ain’t that important. I know it’s not spanish

Question: What country (ies) borders Canada?
You might think of the Unite States right away bc it’s obvious to see that right away. But once you zoom in a little bit, there’s a really tiny island between Europe and N.America, i’m not sure what’s the name of the island. Denmark and Canada used to fight over that tiny island and once in a while, a Canadian soldier and a Denmark soldier came there just to leave a flag or an inventory of their’s so the enemy can find it. Just like a sibling’s fight, no war happening here, just cute stuff. The island is currently divided and half of it is Canada’s and the other is Denmark’s.
I love the way you use maps in this video. Really well put together.
Nice work, I love watching many of your videos. As a suggestion for a strange border for a future video in this series, have you considered the series of enclaves, counter-enclaves and counter-counter-enclaves along the northern portion of the India-Bangladesh border?Or have those been resolved...?
Canary Islands are also a part of Spain and the EU located in Africa. The most curious thing is that they have a different GMT from the national one.
Probably somebody else said it, but you could also add Olivenza as another weird spanish border.
Now the UK is leaving the EU ,it is probably time to give Gibraltar back , but maybe only if the Spaniards give these bit's of Morocco back at the same time
Those lands where spanish before Morocco even existed, so give back to who exactly?
Pollux Pavonis are you crazy, berber have lived there long long time before people from europe
jompelis midi yes, but there was no moroccan state, by that logic 90% of american (and I mean the whole American continent) population shouldn´t been there because natives have lived there long before europeans, africans, asians , etc arrived. And I remind you, those african lands where spanish before America was even discovered by europeans.
And of course, don´t forget West
Sahara, invaded by Morocco itself, and you talk about give them back something?
Pollux Pavonis but why would you give a prosperous city to a failed state like morocco.. the guy is crazy
Aren't you nationalists a funny crowd ?
The video is a map it's petty obvious that these pieces of land have been acquired but Spain and the UK over time moving a population into them doesn't have to finish the debate .
Although Morocco have done this in western Sahara so really all three country's are as bad as each other .
All thought the UK is a bit of serial offender what with Northern Ireland , bits of Cyprus and the Falkland's
I am completely amazed and surprised in terms of this very odd facts, which were not acquainted to me before. Thanks for this appreciable work indeed!
The RISK music is very much fitting lmao
I found a part of Germany that is surrounded by the North of Switzerland and next to it is a thing that I think is a panhandle and I also found more countries with panhandles
I'm pretty sure Llivia stayed a part of Spain because the treaty stated that every Spanish village in that area would become part of France but Llivia was a town, not a village so Spain kept it.
We ceded them land but they forgot to read the small print...
Anyone else started laughing when the part of Spain and France sharing a island came up?
That island is very beautyfull :D, we don't want to destroy it by fighting over it :D
Uselesd islamd
And they have a damn ceremony twice a year on it for fuck sake
You are a piece of shit
"Let's agree on the Falklands belonging to your empire, Spain, and let's not let the dirty English take over the islands."
"Si, amigo."
I went to "Penon de Velez de la Gomera" long ago when I visited a tourist house in that area, The guide called it "Badesse" and It's actually a beach and the way there was very wierd but fun because you had to go through a small village, up the hill, and down a cliff road to reach Badesse, when you reach It you are greeted by this beautiful view and then you go down a stairway made from stone to a beach side village and then you can enjoy the beach, When It's time to go back The guide rents some small boats to bring us back to that first small village we had to go through because the It's one sea with all of these different beaches (4 beaches to be exact), We circled the Spain islands before going and you can see the Spanish soldier guards on watchtowers holding rifles, When you reach that first Village we stayed there for a little bit to drink Green Tea (Which seems popular because everyone was drinking tea) and ate like these crispy fried long donuts then went back to the Tourist house on the bus.
I recommend the trip 10/10
