- I made this video without any speaking as an idea for a new video format. Tell me if you like it or not, I'm still playing around with the best way to publish these. I didn't add music because I didn't want to bother with copyright issues heheh... Here is a link to the quick verbal version: • PVC Medieval Crossbow ...
Thanks to Backyward Bowyer for his PVC bow tutorials. Check him out, he has awesome archery stuff:

I hope to make an MK II later. If you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them below.
The arm span is 30.5" and has about an 18" draw. The length of the stock is 30 inches, not including the stirrup.
Brilliant design. You have a "Gift" for seeing things that aren't created yet; I would pursue that as part of my career if I were you.
Love the design! I don't need dimensions, There are dozens of home-made crossbows to work from on 'tube- yours is simply showing some great new twists! + A tip; Wax the string, and the parts the string rubs on, cuts down on wear, and speeds it up. Steal your mom's candles :) or use one of dozens of commercially available string waxes.
As far as the bowstring needing replacement, no one seems to ever touch on the subject of waxing the string. Waxing it should be done on a regular basis and will greatly reduce wear.
Oh look, it's you.
Hey can u make an instructional video on how to make 1? im dying to build a crossbow and that medieval design is incredibly badass
Excellent, mate; full of innovative ideas and an effective and aesthetically pleasing end product. Well done. ;)
Cool crossbow and 60 paces is a very good range for a homemade crossbow :)
ありがとうございます。 実際には塗装などでハッタリを利かしている部分が大きいですね 工作自体はそれほど難しいものではありません 本体の切り出しさえうまくいけば望む形のクロスボウが作れると思います
bothe styles were nice. good work
Thanks for the feedback
I will be majoring in mechanical engineering. I figure I can make/fix things as a job, and build things as a hobby.
Nice Idea - I will have to try to make one with the help of my Grandson who is very good at engineering.
great video. what did you use to shoot the arrow? was it a bungee coard?
put a piece of fiber glass rod in the bow before melting together
Ok, let's build one!
That's not how real crossbows work though. The point of this is to use the energy stored in the PVC limbs, not an elastic band. I'll use theraband on a slingshot :P
Ha, no it shoots like a real crossbow man. The prods shot the arrow. Unless you're asking what the string is that I used, which is in the video I think.
awesome man, that is a cool crossbow
I went through the video several times and did not see any mention of what it is right behind the trigger that binds the three pieces of pvc pipe together. From eyeballing it, I'm guessing that the lower long one is 1" and the two on top which form the groove for the bolt are 3/4" pvc pipe. Is that correct?
It really doesn't matter what size you use for the groove. Even 1/2 inch would work.
Is there any kind of template for the trigger mechanism?
can you use wire for the string
wow man. this is absolutely great.
fucking awesome work dude
Which glue? PVC cement or hot glue?
very good
what is the measurment of te pvc
amigo que tipo de cuerda usaste???
How did you flatten and bend the pvc pipe?
sprfitter1 I used a heat gun. Check backyardbowyer for tons of tutorials
WOW NICE JOBS
Muy buen video
Awesome!! ,man
same
As with MANY videos, they never give even the basic dimensions. In this video, the length of the stock and prod would have been helpful, but nothing. He failed to mention the prod was heated, flattened and tapered. And once again, he asks for feedback but when feedback is received or there are questions, there is no reply.
I don't know the dimensions because it's made from trash. I just made what looked and felt okay. If I actually measured anything, I would give dimensions.
If you're looking to make your own, I would hope you could do a little research for making one the style you needed.
spinafire are you saying that you won't simply give the length of the crossbow or the prod? Do you not know how to use a tape measure? Why are you so unwilling to answer even the most simple questions? Do you have some type of superiority complex? Is it beneath you? Why do you take the time to show the parts up close and edit the video and add text but then when someone asks you the most BASIC question, you take the time to type out your refusal and your bad attitude, but still won't answer the question?
Bill Smith Well hey, sorry if it comes out looking like a bad attitude and superiority complex to you. I in no way feel that way and I think you're just looking into things too hard.
Giving you some simple measurements on a crossbow is a fine request but I'm sorry that I can't physically measure something that is 105 miles from the college I attend. That's why I said you should try to use the video for the basic idea and just make your own design anyways.
Chris Matthews I already typed a new comment in response to Bill Smith, but seeing as people seem to really want things like measurements I'll try to include them on future videos where they apply. I usually do for things like pneumatic guns, but since caliber and chamber size are more precise and necessary than say prod length, I didn't think to get measurements for this crossbow.
Genuinely, thanks to you two for bringing up this concern and I'll take it as constructive criticism.
spinafire You didn't go home for Christmas where the crossbow is? I have another question. With your cocking mechanism, which is very good, did you use any springs? If not, does the string, nut and trigger stay in place until you're ready to fire or do they want to spin around loosely? What's good about your mechanism is that the nut has the space in the middle so a bolt can be notched. On most other nuts, the string just slams against an un-nocked bolt to shoot and the string can jump over the top of the bolt and misfire.
can anyone say zombie survival?
The bolt your shooting is too long! If you made 4-6 inch bolt it would fly so much faster
I have a grievance, I attempted to make one of these and ended up killing my son using it. I would like you to pay me reparations for my loss. I will see you in court young man.
good shit. i like it better with ur voice though... that sounded creepy
대단하다
I don't see why not, but I'm not a professional or anything. I'd be wary of wear caused by the rubbing of the metal on plastic.
There is no metal rubbing on plastic.
nonverbal is better
