I got to spend 90 min's playing the synth the other day with a nice amp. These are my thoughts. -I think it sounds Great! When people comment on the sound of a synth over the internet, I think it's important to realize a) you're at the mercy of the guy playing it, and the guy creating the sound. Most people are listening on their small computer speakers over the compressed Internet. If you're evening considering this synth, you know that the magic is in the subtlety of the sound, and you ain't capturing that diff over the internet. -IMHO, It's worth $8000. Many people love to say, "my Ob6 sounds just as good, my $150 soft synth is just as good...etc, etc. Well, we all know soft synths sound great, but there's more to that than the story. A) In order to really know what sounds better, you need to hear them in the same room, not over the internet. b) do they sound just as good when the sound is being modulated, when you're turning the filter, as opposed to a static sound. c) Then, there's also the number of features in the synth, as well as its usability. I'm not knocking the OB6, but for 2.5x the price, you're getting 3 osc's versus 2, 4 LFO's versus 2, more envelopes than the OB6, a far deeper sequencer, etc...Most importantly, you essentially get 3 completely independent synths in one with the Moog One. On the OB6, you can't even layer 2 sounds. In my opinion, the discussion is not one of the total cost of the synth, but rather the value, and the value of the Moog One, in my opinion, far exceeds that of the Ob6 due to its feature set. What other polyphonic analog synth, other than the Andromeda, offers a Moog Ladder Filter (with ability to be either HP or 24db, 12db, 6db), as well as a solid state variable filter with the ability to decide which osc goes to which filter (or both) in the mixing section, as well as the ability to blend the amount of solid state filter versus the Moog Ladder Filter. Honestly, I think it's really important for people to play the synth before they comment. It's pretty clear that Moog put an enormous amount of time into developing this synth, and it shows. At least go to your local music store and play it. I'm quite confident most of the people making negative comments will be quite impressed upon hearing the thing in person. I spent 20 minutes just playing with the blend of my sound between the Ladder Filter and the SSV filter. Fantastic! -Moog shipped the synth too early. Dear Moog (and other synth makers), do more testing. Don't ask your customers to be your testers. It wastes our time, causes us stress and erodes our trust. Having said this, I'm sure the Moog One will be great with a couple of firmware updates. -I have a MemoryMoog Plus. The One could absolutely live beside it, and although I need 12 more hours on the One, my feeling upon leaving the store is that the Moog One sounds just as good in its own right. To be 100% sure of this, I need them side by side to do an A/B test. (Note, I didn't say they sound the same, I said they sound equally good in their own right. I wouldn't want them to sound the same. What would be the point of that). -To those that say, this synth is limited to being "just another subtractive synth," I say, no it's not. No other polyphonic analog synth has remotely the feature set the One has with the exception of the Andromeda. The fact that the One has 3 completely independent layers is mind-boggling when you think about it, and it gives you a MASSIVE sonic palette unrivalled by any other Analog Polyphonic ever made. Remember, one synth can't do it all, which is why - if you're looking at an $8000 synth - you probably own a couple of other synths as well. This synth may make some of them redundant, but won't and shouldn't replace them all. -It's a Great Time to be Alive! When was the last time 2 monster synths came out in the same year that rivalled some of the magical synth moments we've had in the past. I'm talking about the Quantum and the One. With these 2 synths, you can conquer the Sonic World! The unique architecture is that the sound engine is entirely analog( newly patented circuits) but digitally controlled through a Linux computer networks !! That’s Uber Genius !
I take it that once you have one of these in your home studio, you had better get some freakingly great monitors of else you're going to hurt the ones you have. Just an amazing sound! I'm listening through inexpensive studio monitors and all I can do is sit in sheer astonishment!
Wow. Honestly I think an 8-voice version plus a DSI Pro 2 would pretty much be the perfect sound design pairing. Sync up the sequencers, you could have full percussion, bass, lead, and pads
Short of modular systems, this certainly qualifies as the biggest current synth on the market. Baddest? Not convinced. At the end of the day it's still an analog subtractive synthesis engine. And no matter how many layers or how many effects you apply, it's still, at the end of the day, an analog subtractive synthesis machine. And if you are looking to have a 16 voice poly analog that no question will hold a place in synthesizer history, go for it. But... FOR ME... nothing I have heard makes me want to pay over almost three times more than say an OB6, one of the other new analog poly synths out recently. It's also very impractical for my small studio. This thing would take up so much space that I would constantly be trying to fit the rest of my studio around it. The bottom line is that for Moog fanboys, this is their "One ring to rule them all". I wouldn't turn it down if one showed up on my doorstep and the price was 1/3 what they are asking. But in the end, it is STILL just an analog poly, albeit Moog. The sounds in this machine are not that new, or progressive, at least that I've heard. I can't help but feel that Moog is really asking twice what this machine is really worth, based only on Moog's name and not much else. It really does strike me as somewhat of a vanity buy. For those that can afford that both in terms of money and physical space, rock on. For me, analog is just one flavor in the synth universe, and although always cool, it is, to me, like Moog decided to build an unbelievable, really juiced up and expensive 1970's automobile in 2018. It is pretty, it is huge, and it has digital controls now - but with so many other current models available, it seems redundant and very much a niche market toy.
Bill Vincent what analog synth at 1/3 or half the cost of this can do what it does? It may not be for you, but I struggle to see how it’s seen as so overpriced. Also, consider the R&D on this thing and where it is made.
@@ModularLanding Maybe I fail to see what it does that is so groundbreaking. Especially when you can buy a 21st century 12 voice poly analog with digital effects and great sounds for under $1000. You can buy three new OB6's and get 18 voices and digital control and effects. for less than this synth. I'm really not bashing it - I just don't think it is very much in line with where the rest of the market is price-wise, and the features don't make up for all that price difference, IMO. But there will always be some who will have to have it, simply because it is the first Moog poly in years, and that is enough for them, just as some will always have to have a genuine Minimoog. For those folks, nothing else will do. And that's totally cool. I've just never been a buyer in that price range, and I don't see the added value vs. the high price.
@@BillVincent Okay, I mean, if you're comparing it to a Behringer Deep Mind then I get you. Personally I played the DM12 and was completely underwhelmed. This is different quality, VCO's, and US-made. It's apples and oranges... just like the Minimoog reissue, which has done well, despite its eye-watering price.
@@ModularLanding As far as the Deepmind goes, you have your own opinion, just as I have mine on the Moog One. But as far as the market goes, the Deepmind has been extremely well-received and is very much a big hit in the synth world, so if market reception is any indicator, underwhelmed is not how most people perceive it. I'm really not comparing, because that wouldn't be quite fair, would it? $800 vs. $8000? But... having said that - they aren't that radically different in what they offer. They are both analog with digital control, built-in digital effects, and that is where I start to ask - what amazing differences worth $6-7K does the One have that the analog poly offerings from several other companies as of late (including DSI, which is also assembled in the USA) not offer? I really don't have a problem with the Moog One. It looks like a real beast. But there is real truth to the fact that it's an instrument completely priced out of the average musician's budget, and from everything I have seen online, the price just isn't justified. 4K? Sure. 8K? Nope. And considering that much of synth brains these days are circuits/boards manufactured in China/Asia, the "Made in USA" moniker is somewhat loosely held, just as cars "made in the USA" now. Assembled, yes. Made from scratch here? No. As I said before, for some folks, nothing else will do. Fair enough. But it is Moog that has priced this unit in the very high end category. And I have struggled to see why, compared to all the other 21st century analog polys. What makes it so radically different? Nothing, as far as I can see. That's all.
I think it sounds great but not for the money. Even when they were talking about a 16 voice analog doing Unison bass, it could be done with the Prophet REV2 or Korg Prologue just as easily. I think a lot of effort went into the insane amount of memory into this thing but as far as the sound goes, there’s nothing I hear here that can’t be done with any of the current 16 voice analogs. Had they even had an MPE supported ribbon controller above the keyboard or just something more than just an insane amount of memory that would contribute to the actual sound.
Jack, how does the Moog One compare to Moog's mono synths like the Voyager or Sub37??? Can bass / brass / lead sounds of those legends be created on the Moog One? Judging by the specs of the One, I would think that this is surely possible. However, no one on UA-cam is talking about that.
If this was Moog's marketing video instead of whatever that thing was, all synth people would be making it their life's ambition to get one. Sounds absolutely amazing.
That was FUN! Jack, when you first started playing, I was thinking, wow someone actually made the moog sound bad, ha ha! Then you killed it with that funk! Great vid guys!!

Check out Schmidt Synthesizer. This seems like the biggest, baddest, non-modular poly analog on the market. Love Moog machines though, a happy owner of Subsequent37!
A Schmidt is definitely on my bucket-list. I sent back my Moog One 16 voice and will be receiving a Baloran The River next week, but the Schmidt is on a whole other level IMO. :)
Oskari Toivonen Hello. Besides sounding very good, the Schmidt has probably the most real-time accessible controls I’ve ever seen on a synth with over 200 knobs and switches. The vector joystick is also something I wish more synths had- I love using it on my Modal 002. No expense was spared on the Schmidt- just about every component is top-notch. Like the Baloran The River, the Schmidt is definitely a players synth. If one is a true synth nerd and is blessed with the financial means to spend $20k on a single instrument...an instrument that only a small handful who will be fortunate enough to ever see own one, you couldn’t do much better than the Schmidt in my opinion. When I eventually get too old to want to mess with the complications of working with multiple synths, I will most likely sell all my synths and buy the mighty Schmidt, as my last synth to enjoy during my twilight years. :)
I am getting a model d, and have been considering a new sound design/polysynth to add. I was between the 3rd wave and the polybrute 12. But hmmmm maybe the move should be model d and moog one, and just never buy a polysynth again. Already having a prologue 16, its been hard to choose what to do since space is so limited in my lil film acoring bed room studio.
Amazing. I presume for £7k, this thing is full of real components. No pops or clicks or buzzing. Just lush analogue. I'd love to see what's inside. The Paul Reed Smith of modern keyboards.
On one of the Moog live streams just after it was released they had some of the engineers tell what was in side it. There are 14,000 components (yes 14k) on 16 separate PCB's, the oscillators, filters and vca's are made from discreet components, not Curtis or remade SSM IC's like in the DSI and nearly everything else since the 1980s and they are controlled by tons of D/A convertors and two computers systems, one high level for the UI and one low level that controls the sound generation. I think when you see what in it you realise just why its so expensive. This was made to an idealist spec rather than to a price, it makes a change to see some thing made again like the CS80 in the late 1970s, that was made to be as good as it could be at the time rather to make as much profit as possible, without such endeavours we don't get progression just watered down ideas from decades ago.
I am wondering if the ergonomy is better than on the Alesis Andromeda. because as far as I know, my concern with big analogs polysynth is always the ergonomy and the huge amount of menu's and sub menus... also It's great that finally Moog made a polysynth... hourra! just hope it won't be their last...

Yup. I bought a Deep Mind 12 for 700 bucks Bill. I ❤️ it!!
It’s obviously not in the same category as a Moog One but it’s not 8 GRAND either!!!
That's all.
12:48 &13:29 this is the sound I remember as a child, thats brought me comfort throughout the years
Sounds a bit Radiohead - Daydreaming.
Great description: 'It's like looking at a landscape'
if money wasn't an object this would be a very reasonable purchase
Jack AND Mylar Alex. Mind blown. Oh... And the Moog One as well... Damn.
What I don't get is how to set the cutoff to control all three of the synths cutoff with one knob.
It sounds like it can do a lot but I haven't heard it doing that huge power sounds of the Memory Moog.
I think Paul Wardingham would love this now that he's adding more synth stuff on his latest albums, some of these sounds would be perfect for that
Never knew that a musical intrument could be used for something that has nothing to do with music. But you guys did it!
2009 Nissan Maxima for sale low miles $10,000 or trade for moog one
Richard Walley DEAL
I’ve got a Moog One I would likely trade it for your Nissan!!!! I need a car!!! And I have a Montage 8 and a Moog One
What's the memory actually used for?
Ummm…. Its worth every penny. Bubble burst.
in my brand new soundmagic headphones this sounds like cream and all the best parts of trifle - genuinely astounding
I'm a guitarist, but still lust after a good synth. Sweeeeeeeet.
Watched vid. Checked price. Insert Grandpa-simpson-walks-in-and-out-gif here.
plus requires an assistant, a power boy and 2 key grips to run
If you guys had 7-8 grand what you buy? This, or try and make up a fleet to rival it?
Loved the outro, that's what I expect a MOOG to sound like.
Jack on the wurly is honestly goals tbh
Jack, how does the Moog One compare to Moog's mono synths like the Voyager or Sub37??? Can bass / brass / lead sounds of those legends be created on the Moog One? Judging by the specs of the One, I would think that this is surely possible. However, no one on UA-cam is talking about that.
Bloody hell what a classic! This is an epic Instrument! Thanks I want one!
chris scott ????
jack i love the way you play man. always hits
it great sounding synth i really like it can you get vary warm sounding Bass Sounds on moog one to ? i love sound of Analog Synthesiser
I'm waiting for the Moog Two.
Dafuk that 48-oscillator unisono and the backing story perfect matching the rationale behind it lol :D
If this was Moog's marketing video instead of whatever that thing was, all synth people would be making it their life's ambition to get one. Sounds absolutely amazing.
Gordon Chin ????
Behringer can you build one like this, the rest of us can afford? Love it😁
That was FUN! Jack, when you first started playing, I was thinking, wow someone actually made the moog sound bad, ha ha! Then you killed it with that funk! Great vid guys!!
Maybe one day I can get the 8 voice. This is sooo beautiful.
man, just go for finance. simple.
His jam at 10:30 is really awesome. Is he playing a real song? If yes which one is it ?
ua-cam.com/video/H-kA3UtBj4M/v-deo.html
As they say in Yorkshire - Where there's Moog there's brass
The video is over, I'm going to change my pants.
I need a cigarette
After buying an apartment this comes next
Manuel Åberg Cobo Stay single, brother! 😂
@@swancakes The girl I love wont even let me buy her a birthday gift, I am lucky
Weird Music haha, she might let you if you start to give your Moog One all of your attention! ;)
@@swancakes I would have to sell my car to buy a Moog One....it's off the table most likely forever.
@@fortheloveofnoise I have no car left. Bougt the Prophet X.
the guy with the anderton tshirt is a killer player, what a good feeling!!!!!
Thank you for the kind comment mate and for stopping, much appreciated Xx

Alex, can you please do a video on this on your own channel?
Awesome synth but does the second pair of hands come with it
This thing is super impressive
Jack absolutely killed the keys on this demo
Haha Jack caught the feels real bad....as did I. This thing is incredible, I can get by with one kidney right?
Andertons offer Triple Reward Points on Kidney part exchanges!!
Jack Duxbury Duly noted. I know a guy.....😜
@@seanchristophersynthesizer6999 Can you explain what's so special about the Schmidt?
If Mr Van Driessen finally got through to Beavis and Butthead and they started focusing in school.
"It's so posh, man!" That should be Moog's UK sales pitch!
Amazing synth. Jack’s reaction is hilarious. Great reviewer. Decent player too.
Great video, do you think the 8 voices can sound as good as this one ? the 16 voices is great but much more expensive.
Need to save forever for one of these!
that release detune feature is a treat
That whirly patch is amazing
Blown away ...
Anderton, you are the man!
Woody is that you?
Damn that bass unison is THICK!!!! Play that thru an Ampeg bass cabinet and shake the foundations!
How would one take the advantage of using all 16 voices if we can only play with 10 voices/fingers to play them at a time?
But can you decouple the sequencer? Like the M32.
Still coming back in 2023 to listen to 12:07
Still coming back in 2024
The Guy from moog should know what keybed it is. It's the Fatar TP-8S Semi-Weighted synth action keys. The best synth keybed on the market.
That bit from 19:00 to 20:30 is worth the price of admission
Are all of these patches stock? A lot of them sound fantastic.
sounds really good, but at that price range i want motorized knobs.
You're a motorized nob
I am wondering if the ergonomy is better than on the Alesis Andromeda. because as far as I know, my concern with big analogs polysynth is always the ergonomy and the huge amount of menu's and sub menus... also It's great that finally Moog made a polysynth... hourra! just hope it won't be their last...
sounds amazing
JD73's World not really.
@@SPAZZOID100 Well I think it does! Esp in this video.
I can't stop thinking buying a Moog One will turn me into Tangerine Dream :ı
It sounds incredible
so i need four hands to make it sound that good?
Alex! We need one of those Mylar videos on this thing!
Nice chops man!
My Yamaha can do that. If I only could figure out, how.
So ,don start with the One than!
This is a phenomenal synth.
JediSid the OB6 is better.
James Reeno is it? How so?
We’re can I get those sound diffusers behind you?
I literally watch these videos for Jack😂. This dude have me cracking up every time
Why not buy three of them and link them up so that I have 24 notes polyphony ..
