ABOUT:
Hi, I'm Wendy, and I have been on a sewing journey ever since my mom taught me how to make little outfits for my dolls. I studied engineering and business, had an office job for two years, and then quit to embark on a lifelong sewing adventure on UA-cam. Subscribe to join me on the adventure, and maybe make your own clothing too! Thanks for watching ❤️
The production quality in this one is off the roof!!!
Thank you thank you, we really wanted to have some fun with it!
except for the music ^^ which is kind of annoying.
But for the rest I totally agree! :)
Erzs F I actually fell in love with the intro and that photo shoot montage PERFECT!
Wendy I love your videos!!! Can you help me do one about how to shorten the crotch of leggings? I have not been able to find one video. Pretty please? 😊
@@jenniferrathjensdlrt3661 ua-cam.com/video/Opnz6TVJ050/v-deo.html
Omg you should totally do a series where you DIY designer brands looks whether accessories or clothing! I’ve always wanted to get a dress from this collection but my broke ass can’t afford it... thanks for the vid!
Seconded!
thirded
I envy you scoring pieces. Here the collection comes out and most likely its already reserved to local celebs and 'influencers' 😓
There's actually a UA-camr that already does that called 'The DIY Designer'
Agreed
"too tight... indigestion" THE REALEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD
I wish shipping and receiving mail was that easy
Amen this is the fantasy I'm selling out here lol
Probably also pretty deadly :D
Imagine ordering a fine china set.
Hello, fellow independent designer from Los Angeles here, who specializes in tulle*~
The gathering foot does work with tulle, it's just a bit of a beast. Here are some tricks I've discovered with it:
1. Have more than one layer of tulle if you want to use the gathering foot as intended. I prefer using two layers bc if you use more than two, it doesn't even gather at all. I don't know why but it might just be my Singer sewing machine
2. If you just want to gather tulle, again use two layers but the trick is to not feed the tulle through the slit, just sew with it as you would with any ol' sewing foot. Also, make sure not to pull or tug the tulle as you're sewing bc it'll make looser gathers that aren't as tight. Just let it do it's thing and let it land where it wants to.
I discovered these tricks when I made an oversized tulle jumper that accidentally ended up being worn by Rickey Thompson to the Harper's Bazaar Icons Party lol
All the best,
- Karlito
Only a minute and a half and I can already say this is the best video I've ever seen from you in both a development and concept sense. You are SMASHING IT and I love it!!! Go girl!
The intro sequence was so great, and sewing with tulle is not easy! All that fabric 👀👀👀 I wonder if there is a way to create longer length so that you can feel fabulous and get some fun wear out of it? I wish I had some ideas but I'm drawing blanks! 💕
You could reduce the length to turn it into a tulle top! That's always an option with a dress 😛
You could just go completely nuts and make legging/pants/tights out of opaque fabric in the same blue and wear with black shoes
Given thr amount of left over fabric you could easly add a longer underskirt or add another tule ruffle to the layers to make it longer :)
She is funny
She can make a tulle dress
She is pretty
She is kind
She is married
She can sew
She is great.
She is my idol❤️
This is the longest I've brewed a vid in a while, but I'm so glad Fabric Wholesale Direct pitched in the fabric to make it happen 💙💙if you're looking for new ways to work on your fitness, test your patience, and look cute, might I suggest sewing this dress? I was SWEATING. Thank you for watching and making my lil' Cinderella moment possible!
withwendy you have to see how I made mine ua-cam.com/video/31kANPrJ-PE/v-deo.html
I used to love sewing, but haven't for years. You are extremely talented. The mathematical calculations alone were a "bit" mind-boggling. It is a beautiful dress and it looks great on you 👏🏼
withwendy Hey, at 2:17, it looks like you may have left your unblurred address visible on the pleated fabric package. If that is what was visible, I hope you can blur it soon, I haven’t seen others mentioning it in the comments. Stay safe!
This was fab! And you nailed my sewing philosophy from 38 years of sewing...it's not always about getting it perfect every time. It's about being able to recover and get what you like from mistakes. Thank you for articulating this.
This entire video made my day. The video production, the dress, the shoot at the end...the HONESTY!!! Ugh, please give us more of the things.
You looked adorable while sewing and wearing the dress at the same time 😍 this was so nice to watch
Thanks Julia you too are a joy to watch ❤️❤️
imagine being talented, skilled, and beautiful... can’t relate
It's so satisfying when you cut through that thicc stack of tulle.
Fantastic video Wendy & team!! So worth the hard work 👏👏👏😘
Thanks Justine!!! I’m so happy we got to meet 😘 you’re an inspiration!
@@withwendy I absolutely return the compliment! 🤗 And I hope we'll meet again ☀️
It came out SoOOoOoO gorgeous!!!& The video quality is *chef’s kiss* 💙
Thank you so much, kisses back to you!!
I love the concept/editing. It was really fun!
This is amazing!! I love the way this video was shot and the finished dress came out beautifully! I give you SO much credit for pushing forward and working through the tough times and I LOVE how open and honest you have been!! It makes me feel so much motivated and inspired as a creator and DIY youtuber myself! Thank you!💕
That intro!!! ❤️ The dress turned out so incredibly, and that color looks stunning on you. It really shows how much work and love you put into not only the projects, but the videos themselves. The types of projects you take on are the same type I aspire to. I really want to start a channel, and watching your videos is both inspiring and extremely intimidating lol.
When you're just trying to walk down the street but fabric keeps falling out of the sky...
Love you wendy! 🥰
side note: your nails are everything! Also, I loved this project. Sipping my morning coffee and watching this as snow falls in Winnipeg. ☕
Where is Winnipeg?! I’ve never heard of it! Also super jealous that you have snow!
@@colleenxo9918 Manitoba 😊
this is a production. no cap.
Wonderfully done video. My mom, and we girls made tule/net dresses for us for our proms. It was the in thing then. I wore mine to stand up for my sister at her wedding. Working with tule or net is a whole different world. You depict it great. There's no easy way to sew this stuff... especially pleated, which was really brave. So cute.
I love the way you sewed the elastic I've never seen anyone do that before and it's so smart! I always have trouble sewing elastic and this helps so much. It's so simple but so helpful. Also I'm so proud of your growth! I've been watching for a while and you are a huge inspiration to my sewing dreams ❤️
UA-cam algorithm brought me a gift, I instantly subscribed with that introduction!
Me too!
Elastic measurement is your measurement (wrist, waist, etc) minus one inch.
Doesn't it depend on how soft the elastic is?
@@kathrynnuthall3093 nope, elastic is elastic.
Possibly, depends on the project. l know I've used 3/4 of waist size for one or two layer cotton skirts or shorts.
@@Rose-jz6sx not really, elastics have different stretch so there's no calculation to guarantee fit
@@kathrynnuthall3093 yeah it depends. Ive had elastics that look exactly the same but their stretch and quality is different. Some are very thin and weak, some are stiffer and stronger
I am somewhat new to your channel, so I've still only watched a scattered handful that have grabbed my attention (as someone who is waiting right now for sewing machines to come back in stock so I can finally buy one and learn to sew!), so I very recently watched one from a while back when I think you were just discovering how much people appreciate seeing the mistakes, and in this video, hearing you talk about the vulnerability of sharing but knowing it is valuable to your viewers, I just want to say, I am super proud of you for courageously opening yourself up by sharing more and more, and also acknowledging that you are already very self-critical but fully appreciate people's constructive feedback. It takes a special mindset and sincere desire to perfect a craft for someone to gracefully accept feedback from strangers, and I simply had to tell you how much I appreciate seeing that! Makes me really feel like I am joining you on your journey, and also excites me to begin that journey myself! So thank you SO much for offering yourself up and sharing the things you are learning, and of course for sharing your beautiful work 🥰
YOU GOTTA EMBRACE IT!!!!!! YASSSS SAY IT AGAIN PUT IT ON A TSHIRT, SCREAM IT TO THE WORLD!!!!
Windy, I've been watching you for the longest of time and you've motivated so many of my projects. I feel like I've been a part of your life from your first DIYs to coming this far and making such a complicated project. I've learned some interesting techniques which I never knew existed like pleating services! Thank you for always inspiring and going on because I know sewing is hard and wanting to give up is easy, but you still get it all done! Remember if there's one person being hard on you about your errors, there's ten more people rooting for you to do well! 💓
i love watching not only because of the sewing but the editing and fun concepts of the video, your channel is just so much fun to watch Wendy, even if i can barely thread a needle :)))
If you cutting the tulle at 10:28 wasn't the most satisfying thing in the entire world, i don't know what is
That dress is insane!!! You are a coutoure designer and seamstress. BRAVO!!!
omg PLEASE do a tutorial on the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2019 pink ruffle babydoll dress!! your talent is insane!! ❤️💕🌸
The original dress is made with organza fabric, maybe is why it’s don’t have the same fellings to it ! 💕🥰
I usually just watch and don’t comment. But I like that you are showing the mistakes and struggles of creating garments. It’s helpful as I don’t feel like I’m stupid for not figuring out how to sew a particular thing together...or sewing it on the wrong side for 2 hours and then having to remove and reconstruct lol 😂
This was very labor intensive! You have a great deal of patience and grit! Amazing dress! It’s beautiful!
I’m pretty certain that this is one of the best videos you’ve ever made. Love love the dress and the production quality not to mention that incredible intro ❤️
Its like the 2019 Version of the Cinderella dress
I love that you do complex projects like this one because it shows how much time and effort it really takes to make these beautiful designer dresses, but also that it is possible yourself!
Wendy I just love how your editing style has evolved and you’ve become more comfortable in front of the camera and confident in your presentation! The humor, the edits. The TRUTH. so proud of you and how you continually push yourself further. And the genuine surprise every time fabric just falls out of the sky? Gold
I didnt understand a thing until you saw all that fabric to that tiny elastic. Then i was WOOOOAHHHHHH
The editing on this video is *chef kiss*! And that dress is such a gorgeous color!
I think you are super brave for doing something this difficult. All that material is daunting! Well done!!
Wow!! Amazing work videography and sewing!!
I have been waitingggg for a UA-camr to teach me to make this masterpiece because I can not afford the original one omg thank you thank you thank you !!!
You're so talented Wendy! I can't even imagine how stressful it was to just look at all that fabric lol. It was overwhelming to me and I wasn't even there lol
Keep up with the hard work! You're doing amazing and getting better with every video!
As someone who went to college for fashion, I am amazed at how you had the ambition to tackle this. I’m currently at an “unmotivated” period in my fashion bcz large designs intimidate me. This was inspiring and makes me want to start back sewing .
Brazilian here, only clicked the video because I wanted to learn how to pronounce "Tulle". Ended up watching the whole thing, liking and subscribing because of the great editing and crafts(wo)manship displayed. Congrats!
I LOVE your content so much Wendy!!! I'm just starting to sew my own clothes and so far have only succeeded in making a skirt and a dress. Plus I didn't realize it takes so much time to make one garment!
Do you have any tips for sewing beginners? How did you learn so many sewing techniques? If you can make a Q&A video I'm sure it can help a lot of us! Much love and appreciated!!! xx
that intro was AMAZING!! so funny and super cute, I loved it :D great job Wendy
Love the antics and it makes it more fun... Your sewing is way out of my league and I have been sewing for 60 years... You do a wonderful job... Be blessed.
I personally want to know how the heck you stayed so chill during this process. I study fashion design and I worked with tulle in the past and I can imagine you being frustrated many times (especially doing the gathering and such). mad respect for your patience :) amazing job!
The top piece with a pair of really well tailored off white pants would look stunning
Okay Wendy with this Hollywood quality production 🥰❤️
I absolutely adore your vibe about learning and the whole process you are helping everyone see mistake are good
I feel you, every time you silently do a giggling smile of happiness whenever you got what u want like in your project.
This is pure talent omg I just watched this in awe
wendy’s videos make me wanna try sewing omg that dress looks stunning ✨
Really enjoyed this video. It was fun to watch you develop the design and figure out how to stitch it for the best effect. It did turn out beautifully and that blue looked very pretty on you! There is a you tube video from a woman who made a ballgown with 50 yds of tulle. You might enjoy how she used it and how she was able to put it all together as well. Congratulations!
Your sleeping bag coat got me into sewing again. It might not always be perfect but creativity is the key. And you got a whole key ring of that in your dress pockets!!!
She’s the girl with the PRODUCTION VALUE 💁🏻💁🏻💁🏻
Does anyone know where those gold sunburst earrings she’s wearing are from? They’re beautiful! (You can see them really well at 7:31)
They're from Wanderlust and Co!
Right, theyre pretty
I don't even know how to sew, but... I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS CHANNEL 💜
I just skip through most tutorials and sewings vids until I get to the good part, but your videos I just love to watch :)
Omg I am literally making one rn, but I overcomplicated it- the way she made it seems so easy!
“If it is literally baroque, then fix it.” - my FAVORITE quote of 2019
Renee Laventure watch beauty and the beast, the little clock guy says it when walking Belle around the 🏰
Your confidence to embrace your mistakes helps me to be brave to do my own refashion of the pieces that I love and could no longer able to wear. Like you say, things does not have to be perfect. I realised that I can just go ahead and do the project and if it does not turn out well, there always room to start all over. Nothing is lost.
Such a whimsical blue shade 💙💙
“Too lose, slippage, too tight, indigestion.”
Is so cool that you show your falliures, because it gives us motivation to go back and finish those projects that have gone wrong and we let them go! So thanks for sharing it with us💗
girl the production!!!!!!! TASTE!!! YES MA'AM!!!!
Judy is giving us SavageXFenty vibes
Judy just out here living her best life!
Очень красиво!!!
Wonderful work Wendy! ☺️ As you mentioned Cinderella - could you do a Disney-on-the-Runway or character-inspired modern pieces?! This tule dress definitely gave me Cinderella vibes! 🤩
Let's talk about the quality of this video. I feel like I'm watching a fashion series. Great job Wendy😊😊😊❤❤❤
“Make it blue!” 😴👸🏼
H&M stole their tulle dress line from a designer I know, Dominicos. Like the exact designs and all. It’s kind of messed up that they did that.
For real????
Melissa Aurora yeah like they have done some comparisons and it can’t just be coincidental. I would look at their designs on twitter and Instagram. They basically have been making a lot of tulle dresses for a while and in particular ways. They made this red dress in particular that H&M copied.
@@ItsTerrahCard man that's lame. Just because a designer is less know they think they can copy their good ideas
Melissa Aurora it actually happens a lot. Some youtubers have their outfits stolen and then there isn’t much they can do about it because they are small.
H&M, Zara, forever21 and the like are all straight up STEALING designs from indie/unknown designers and i HATE IT. This is literally the reason I do not shop at H&M anymore.
I could watch Wendy for hours!! Her voice is just a dream! 😍
Wendy you are soooo creative and bold, I love the way you always challenge yourself!!! You encourage us all. Thank you! God Bless!
Am I the only person who doesn’t understand the hype around this dress? It looks like a loofah.
I agree lmfao
Lol, same.... I really do wish she made it longer tho... 🤣🤣🤣
C l e m e n t i n e et al., cocktail dress. Picture with martini. Maybe several martinis. 🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸. 🤗...
Couldn't agree more. If it wasn't for the professional pleating what's the fuss about?
The craftsmanship that it took to make this dress is insane.
Thank you for sharing your learning!!! And the photoshoot location looks familiar...is that the sewage plant along the lake?? It's never looked so High Fashion
Hi, I absolutely love your videos! I just wanted to let you know that when using a seam ripper it works a lot better if you have the small red dot inside the seam and the long edge facing you this makes it a lot faster. I know it sounds weird but when you get it right it is so much faster and easier.
the cembalo music in the background made me smile so much it was so cute!! the dress turned out so beautiful!!!
Keep challenging yourself woman!
Everything is so great in this, but girl that’s not a corset. 😩
Weeeendyyyy! I'm from the Philippines but I am now an immigrant here in Canada. Can't help but pray that I run into you someday. You've taught me sooo much
Such a beautiful job. You are so awesome, you live and learn and that is what counts.
When using an elastic waste I use 85% of my waist measurement.
Not gonna lie i was a bit freaked since all of a sudden Wendy was speaking with me......my name is Geraldine 😱.....apparently i can pleat fabric 🤣
I Totally Enjoy EVERY adventure you have and make.. Amazing trips, in EVERY area. So unique you are and I find much relaxation and excitement, too, as I watch you Create another type of medium.. You Rock, gal.
You look amazing in it! I am in awe of the talent
U should of took some pics with u hold the same color balloons
Loooll when i saw the price of the h&m one I was like damn i could literally diy that for $10 or just buy a damn loofah
In addition to a plethora of things I enjoy about this video, your relaxing voice is something I decided to compliment
What an incredibly hard, hard project to do. Wow. I want to see you on a show like "The British Sewing Bee." I really think you could take them out with your work. Your personality would shine in competition, too bad that N. America doesn't run reality TV like we see in your most excellent videos. That dress was stunning, haute couture for sure.
Dear sweet creators, BLUR OUT MAILING INFO, safety first!
It's just her PO box!
I didn’t see anything wrong with the dress . You have more nerve than I do I would had trash it before the 6 yard point . The finished dress was good.
You are a JOY to watch! Such great glow about you.
Your creations are inspirational!
Amazing! And that color looks so beautiful on you!
and now think of all the poor ladys having to sew this over and over aigan in bangladesh, india, china, etc. for about 4 dollars a week. Because yes, h&m produces that way
I want to highlight this! Making my own clothes has shown me how much time and effort can go into a garment, and was one of the main factors in me understanding that fast fashion prices come at a cost to people with less power in the manufacturing chain. I hope my vids can continue to help people see the work involved!
@@withwendy Thank you for answering! Although i have stopped buying fast fashion bevor i found videos and channels lie yours, videos like these, as you said, do really show how much goes into any piece of garment and how we should really treasure every piece of clothing and pay for the fair amount!
Love your videos! :)
Lisa Kirchkuchen The wage here is adjusted to the low cost of living and other economic factors here. You can’t expect high wages that businesses in the country can’t afford or our entire economy which is highly dependent on such industries would collapse, leaving millions unemployed, starving and helpless. Workers in these garments factories live comfortable lives to the standards in the country, which is obviously drastically different from a first world country. In fact, these ‘poor’ ladies are paid much better than any other alternative job they could do with no education or valued skills. Most of these ladies have to slave their lives away for even lower pay in other mining/construction/cleaning/factory jobs, or most commonly work as servants in houses where they’re usually abused, overworked and exploited by their employers.
