  • KU Libraries recently hosted a three-day, hands-on Data Carpentry Genomics Workshop in the Clark Instructional Center on Watson Library's Third Floor. Nearly 20 participants attended the hybrid event Jan. 9-11, 2024. Caroline Kisielinski, a post-doctoral researcher at KU's Biodiversity Institute and Natural History Museum and one of the carpentries instructors, recaps the event, and KU graduate student Amar Kumar from computational biology discusses his experience. Data Carpentry teaches fundamental computational skills necessary for research. During a hands-on workshop, participants learn how to organize, clean, and query data using open source tools. They also learn how to reproducibly analyze and visualize data using a programming language.
