I hung the sculptures that are in the interior picture of St. John's Cathedral! It's one of my favorite buildings to work in!
Awesome! Our editor's great-great-grandfather apparently did some of the masonry work there as a day laborer roughly a century ago. Very cool how much craftsmanship/artistry have to come together to create something like that building.
@@MentalFloss That is incredible! It really is a wonderful building to work in. I'm a rigger for their art installs and concerts, being 100' up in that room and still seeing another 30-45' above you (or even higher in the ceiling, we walk on the tiles!)is truly awe-inspiring.
Wow that really cool
The Crazy Horse memorial in South Dakota has been under construction since 1948, and there are currently very few people working on it. The model of the finished product looks spectacular, but we’ll be lucky if it’s completed before the next century, if ever.
The Chernobyl reactors are interesting, but the greatest unfinished monument of the Soviet Union was the Palace of the Soviets in Moscow. Construction was started in 1937, then halted due to WWII, and the foundation of the building was dismantled to in 1942 to build fortifications to slow the advance of the Nazis. If it had been completed, it would have been the tallest building in the world at over 400m (and by far the tallest Neo-Classical or Art Deco structure) until the Burj Khalifa was built. After the war, the site was turned into a massive 130m diameter public swimming pool.
13 Unfinished Projects? I didn't know they did a video about me and all my dreams as they slip through my fingers like the wasted days of my life I'll never get back. Neat!
Pete Townsend became so obsessed with Lifehouse and using synthesizers to “play” a person that he couldn’t express what he was trying to do to the rest of the band. At the time they just lost their manager, who was able to act as a go between between Pete and everyone else, because he started his own record label and had pretty much moved to New York. They booked a theater in London to be the “Lifehouse” and tried doing a few shows... his idea was brilliant, but the technology of the times didn’t work the way Pete imagined. After Pete almost had a mental breakdown, the band decided to drop “Lifehouse” take what songs and bits and pieces of stuff he had, go to a new producer (Glyn Johns), and Johns was the missing piece for “Who’s Next”.
Imagine working through the night during one of the worst nuclear disasters in history 😅
BBC Sherlock. Still waiting for season 5
SERIES five!
I was interested to see if Harlan Ellison's unfinished envelope-pushing trilogy would make it on this list. The languishing of Last Dangerous Visions irritated so many sci fi authors... and readers.
I’m really surprised that the Crazy Horse sculpture was not mentioned.
It's still being worked on; so, it's not yet an unfinished project.
@@Mattjammar I did not know that. Last I had heard, all work had stopped.
@@Mattjammar The Sagrada Familia is still being worked on...

"It's not yet an unfinished project" would be a great thing to say when you haven't completed your homework.
I have a crazy idea about what the unfinished Cincinnati subway tunnels could be used for: a subway. (No, not the sandwich shop.)
It's crazy that there's 2 castles built on islands in rivers in upstate New York. There's Boldt castle that was talked about in the video here but there's also Bannerman castle on the Hudson River, but I can see why they went with Boldt castle since Bannerman Castle's story of how it was abandoned is much less interesting
I really liked this one. I hope you do a part 2.
Was hoping they said 15 unfinished projects in the title but then ended the video with these 13
3:40 OMG! I loved playing in the pit orchestra of our high school musicals, but I never had any idea what was going on in the plot. My sophomore year my school did an adaptation of this play. I can't remember who the script or music was by though.
Unfinished projects are quite abundant with mining companies when they abandon "reclamation phases" partway through and leave toxic waste lakes due to no legal regulation. There is no requirement for non-coal mines to reclaim the land other than there be a reclamation plan. There aren't any real standards nationwide, its a state by state ruling. Some states have specific requirements but many such as Utah do not. What will become of Bingham Copper Mine? That is the question...
Robert A. Heinlein never gave any of his books a proper ending until his last one. “To Sail Beyond The Sunset” was his last book, and the only one to have a proper ending. It was published just months before his death.
The 1984 Dune has a soundtrack by the brilliant yet criminally underrated Toto!
2:30 "became a Member of Parliament, and then shuttled back to London"
Parliament is *in* London
Erin and Limp Bizkit. The world needs more.
You could have included Schubert's unfinished 8th symphony.
and Mozart's Requiem
I am surprised that the Superconducting Super Collider was not in this list... would have really put Waxahachie on the map in a big (pun intended) way.
I got like 9mins through before I noticed the stuff in the front of her teeth and now its killing me.
great video and the fact I didnt notice for so long is entirely because I was so enthralled by the topic
Bruh I saw that from the very beginning
I miss John Green being on here.
14: Metroid Prime 4
Ah. There was another unfinished project... Golden Gate Park. SOMEone (W R Hearst?) had a small castle disassembled in France (I believe) and all the stones numbered and shipped to San Francisco, where they were piled in Golden Gate Park (behind the Japanese Tea Garden, in fact). This pile was made in the autumn months and within a short time a flaw in the concept came to light: the careful numbers had been painted on (with the intention of cleaning them after assembly) with TEMPERA water colors, which washed off before spring, leaving a heap of unsortable blocks of stone. They were abandoned to the kudzu and ivy and in the late 60s were an excellent nearly private place to smoke a joint. In the 80s, chunks of rock were moved to form a ritual space on the hidden trail that goes along the ridge (dune?) over Speedway Meadows. I have no idea what happened to the rest of that small castle,...
Pink Floyd was for the Atreides only, the Harkonen music ws supposed to be composed by Magma.
I'm surprised there was no mention of the Superconducting Supercollider. When the US decided to abandon big science for luddite austerity bullshit...
The one in... Waxahachie I think? Texas?
@@Sluggernaut That's the one
I wish I had more occasions to use the phrase "ghost burn"; or, really, any occasion.
karaoke every weekend? so wild.
I recognize those books in the background! I have those 3 too!
"Ghost Burn"
LoLoL
And the storyboard "pictures" were by Jean "Mœbius" Giraud.
Unfinished project #14: Erin's Teddy Roosevelt obsession video.
Tell us, what percentage of people who started watching this video didn't finish it?
LOL. UA-cam doesn't give us that data, precisely, but from the #s we do get it looks like ~59% of ppl are making it to the end (roughly on par for the channel).
I voided when she said ''respect the hustle'' I do not respect criminal activity, shafting the Washingtons and keeping the goods for ill gotten gains. criminal.
Lady Jessica's part was initially proposed to C. Rampling
Can we go back to that photo of Orson Welles? Please identify the circumstances. (If you weren't talking about him at the time, I'd never have guessed it was him.)
Ha! Apparently it's a publicity still from the 1950 film "Crack in the Mirror."
Not exactly contemporaneous with the unfinished Dune, but it somehow felt right. Also, fwiw, this is the description of the movie from Wikipedia:
"The three principal actors, Orson Welles, Juliette Gréco, and Bradford Dillman, play dual roles in two interconnected stories as the participants in two love triangles." Might have to seek that one out.
@@MentalFloss Thanks!
Always thought "something to talk about" should be a duet. back and forth on the verses with them singing together for the chorus
Maybe bonnie raitt and garth brooks?
I saw a little red headed lady trying this song out on a small crowd in a bar in Trancas CA, there were about 10 of us, my buddy and I had just randomly stopped in for a beer on our way up the coast, and lo and behold, Bonnie Rait sitting on a stool with her guitar, before the HUGE Grammy win.
Wow I am early
Nice video I learned a lot
Aww man - no mention of The Thief and The Cobbler?
I'm happy you mentioned the Sagrada Familia, and "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" is one of my favorite books!
Other unfinished books: "The Salmon of Doubt," by Douglas Adams, and (unfinished by the author) "The Silmarillion" by J. R. R. Tolkien.
[As yet unfinished: "The Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring" by George R. R. Martin. 😑]
Thanks! I only know "Edwin Drood" as a fairly ridiculous musical, so I'm intrigued by the praise of the novel. Might have to check it out!
@@MentalFloss I first became aware of it through the musical! 😂
One of these days I’m going to do more than just eat lunch on the balustrade outside the athenæum. Actually go in there.
Does the camera need to shift EVERY sentence?
No love for the Winchester mansion?
No mention of "Excerpt From A Teenage Opera"?
Chaucer almost never finished anything....
uhmmm Mozart's Requiem?
Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang
Project Xanadu
I was expecting to see Mozart's Requiem included in this list...
I hope George R. R. Martin doesn't appear on a future list
Sigh...I'm listening to a recorded book of Patrick O'Brian's "21," the last, unfinished adventure of Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin. It stops mid-sentence.
Chaucer sounds a lot like GRRM
What?! No mention of the Half Life 3 game?
How you going to miss "neuschwanstein castle"? Famously incomplete. It's what the disney castles are based on .
Roberto Bolaño's novel 2666.
No Hearst Castle?
I love you. #notcreepylike
What about T***p's Mexican wall project? Certainly fits the description 'unbelievable' to any sane person.
Huh
I need that Salvador Dalí mechanical dummy in my life.
Nothing about Das Kapital?!
YouTalkSoFast!!!
0:22 Look at that background. Are you kidding me? I can finish that painting in about four minutes. Besides, if it wasn't for that mushroom hairdo, that would just be a random face that doesn't look like anybody.
Mt. Rushmore is unfinished
Ya living room it looks like garage
Do people need clarification on who Geraldine Chaplin is? Her career stands on its own...
Erin
You win
No Ryugyong hotel? Too overdone maybe?
I guess John Green has no input anymore.
Duh, it’s been YEARS!
I do miss him on this channel.
I am surprised there is no mention of the Mt. Rushmore statues or the Crazy Horse monument
As a viewer, I have but a simple request: please put the notes/autocue/whiteboard further away so your eye movement isn't so obvious, it's quite distracting.
Its there something in between her front teeth? It looks like there's something black and I can't even hear what she saying cuz I keep staring at it
Am I crazy, or does
Martha Washington look like George Washington in drag? Were they ever seen in the same room at the same time?
I would add the animated lord of the Rings movie. Only the first part ever was done.

First!
Unfinished project: flossing? There's something black between your front teeth and I can't unsee it. Or is it just a gap?
