I remember years ago my Dad and I decided to watch this concert out of impulse, and we were definitely enjoying it up until this point. When John started singing I remember we were just in awe and unable to react, just sheer amazement. And then came the tears and my Dad muttering "wow...". Miss you, Dad.
I had the same reaction at this point the first time I saw this show! Fruciante’s in my top 5 favorite axe men but his falsetto voice and harmonies kill too!
The timid Thank You at the end says it all really. It was him, his guitar and a great song in front of thousands of people and once the song finished he was back in the real world.
It just kills me when he says "thank you". He's not only giving the world one of the most beautiful performances ever and he ends with "thank you". No, thank YOU John Frusciante
@@MrAncientAstronautWe've all heard it an most of us agree that this is better. In case you don't know it, check out John's Walking In The Sand version at Phoenix Park, Dublin. It's not only better than the original, but the way it seamlessly transitions to Scar Tissue is beautiful imo.
@@RHCPsTv you think this cover is better than The Chantels original? This is a great, shortened version - and it’s awesome that he gives homage to a relatively unknown group from a generation ago. But the original is a far better, and stronger version. Obviously music is subjective. But most people that aren’t complete simps over John (and believe me, he’s one of the inspirations that got me into playing guitar almost two decades ago)and can remain neutral between the two would disagree with you on that
A long time ago, I was working retail, night was slow, and one of my coworkers played this over the speakers really loud. None of us talked, just listened, and then I spent the next five years looking for it because I was to embarrassed to ask what this song was. I found it last year... which is when I realized I had been thinking about a two minute clip of audio I had only heard once for FIVE YEARS straight. Must be a good one. It really is.
I remember he made a mistake at the start of the song and started giggling like a little kid. Then Anthony spoke to the audience about this being the biggest gig they had ever played and asked the audience to understand they were feeling a bit nervous. It was the most honest endearing moment of the gig and they cut it out of the DVD.
I was so lucky to be at this concert. it was as amazing as it looks! I remember Fruciante made a mistake on this cover, and had to start again for the purpose of the dvd. the mistake was obviously edited out. Legends!
Exactly what I wanted to say haha. Can you believe this mans voice? Ridiculous lol. They say women usually have a better voice for highs and I would agree with that statement for the most part but clearly john doesn't give a phuck and pulls it off like a boss anyways because he's like KING of musicians lol.
@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 Kinda same. I've been playing guitar for 15 years. My whole playing style is like frusciante. Learned everything about him and his techniques but still not close to his skill level
He's very brave about exposing himself as a work in progress to the world. Everything from the legendary drug use in the past (I'e seen a few of those videos and felt kind of creepy afterwards for watching, tbh...like when I watched that HBO or Showtime series about dying and showed real deaths. The thing is I care but I'm not sure he does. I feel the same about his deviating from the rock and learning the electronics bc that is hard enough...when good at something already to chose to start a whole new chapter. i won't allow much to be recorded of what I do...I've only be taking and allowing photos more than twice a year or so fairly recently. So. to me, just anouncing that he's planning to learn something and publish his progress is committing to something and brave. I'm also starting to suspect he could do more than just the music. He's so good with imagery and discovering other ways of experiencing music (like movement, colors, designs, speed and perception etc...) that I could see him putting together a muti-level project, like a musical or opera or ballet:)) That's hard bc there a whole world to create and sustain for hours but I can see him doing it for some reason.
Maybe, by the Chantels 1958, is one of my all time favorite songs. It has a hauntingly beautiful melody, with backup singing that makes the hairs on your neck stand up. For John Frusciante to love that song too is, for me, crazy cool. It sounds like a bunch of instruments are accompanying him, not just his guitar. I only wish he had sung the whole song. Magnifique!

I wish I could shake this guys hand. Amazing guitarist, amazing artist, amazing voice. John, you have fought the darkness and rose up and brought light into all our lives.
He really has! We almost lost the guy. If he died in the mid 90s like he almost did... We never would have gotten this and sooo much more. It's a world that's sooo easy to be cruel in and take everything from everyone else. Not John though, He's here to endless give. Unlimited love : )
