  • How to calculate valley sleepers. Definitely helpful in order to locate your layovers. This was a very small example but it could be done on a much larger scale, and it can really speed up your work in the air if your cut guy can utilize one number (the span) and cut all your major components.

    Out of all the videos I have seen on UA-cam in regards to doing a sleeper, nothing comes close to this one
    Accurate, and quick
    Well done!!

    Can you explain or do a video if you are calculating sleepers with different pitches? The math will be different correct?

    Is the angle on the framing Square always 12 and the other angles is what the calculate says sorry to ask just a bit confused 👌

    • @Redoakcarpentry
      @Redoakcarpentry  Рік тому

      Yes if you use the “pitch” function it will always show you the rise number as it relates to 12” of run. Pitch is usually based on a 12 inches if run, So it’s implied that whatever you come up with there, your square will always have one end on 12. Hope that clarifies a bit. Haven’t had my coffee yet 😅

      @@Redoakcarpentry I finally figured out getting the jack rafters for overbuild with build calc for irregular pitches , if I can get the sleepers I plan to set the overbuild on the roof all prebuilt on the ground

    A string and blocks is way easier to build over frames

      Depends on the situation, if I can get ahead of my framers when I’m on the ground cutting I always prefer to have shit ready for them.

      @@Redoakcarpentry you have guys sitting and waiting for you to play on your phone when I can just pack lumber that I need with a string and block and get to work no waiting. Solo framer here. I don’t have to pay guys when I can do it myself.
